After spending so much time fighting over her and defending her on other forums, I would like to have a thread where we talk about our experiences of asking the Theotokos for her intercessions.

I know for me, getting to know our Blessed Mother has been a lifetime experience for me, and has been healing for me in many ways. While I had at first rejected her help, I now welcome her succour, and run to her aid when needed. I love the prayers we say to her, and just love loving her. It is comforting for me to know that I have a spiritual mother who can be there for me and comfort me in ways my biological mother can't.

In regards to her intercessions, earlier this year the doctors saw some abnormal cells, and thought it could be cancer. I asked for her intercessions, and drank some Holy Water that was taken from the Church where the miracle of the Pokrov occured, and have been fine ever since. It is my belief that through her intercessions, everything turned out okay. :crosseo:

What about you?

When my water broke 6 weeks early with my son, I took a small icon of the Pokrov with me to the hospital. I labored with this icon in the pocket of my hospital gown. Once my son was born we put the icon into his incubator. This icon stayed with him for all of his 3 month hospital stay. We believe that it was through Her prayers of protection that our son was able to pull through 3 bouts of a very serious bowel infection. We now have a larger icon of the Pokrov next to his bedroom door.:)

Thank-you once again, Our Most Holy Lady, for your faithful prayers!

The Pokrov is the feast day that Father Mark Tyson, my spiritual father, was made a Priest. It was the day my friend became a Reader. It was the first day I stepped foot into an Orthodox Church(dedicated to her Dormition, no less). She is a fervent protectress.

Save me, Panagia!

Thank you for your stories -- keep them coming.

The Pokrov is also my feast day, so it is close to my heart

Troparion (Tone 4)
Today the faithful celebrate the feast with joy illumined by your coming, O Mother of God. Beholding your pure image we fervently cry to you: "Encompass us beneath the precious veil of your protection; deliver us from every form of evil by entreating Christ, your Son and our God that He may save our souls."

Kontakion (Tone 3)
Today the Virgin stands in the midst of the Church and with choirs of saints she invisibly prays to God for us. Angels and bishops worship, apostles and prophets rejoice together, since for our sake she prays to the pre-eternal God.

I can safely say She has brought me several blessings .

I have once more placed a problem in Her hands - and I trust Her to intercede with Her Son for me.

Same.

Also, the Magnificat is a model for the Christian life to me in so many ways.

Not only that, but through my devotion to her, she has a way a softening my heart to Christ when I just can't make it some days.

About 10 years ago Fr. P asked me to write an icon of the Theotokos of the Inexhaustible Cup and said I needed it done by the Dormition. A few days before the feast I told Fr. P I had it done except for the gold, but that I did not have any gold. He told me it needed done by the feast I needed to get the gold ordered. So I called and ordered 2 books of gold and had it overnighted to me. The next day the gold did not show up so I called the company and they sent 2 more books of gold out to me. The following day all 4 books of gold showed up at my house. I called the company and informed them of this and they told me just to keep the original 2 books of gold at no extra cost to me. I was able to get the icon done by the feast, just like Fr. P requested. When I told Fr. P about the 4 books of gold for the price of 2 his response was "The Theotokos provides for us!" with great joy in his voice.

Hey, Michael, I'm just about to start an icon of the Inexaustable Cup!
I can't count the ways in which Panagia has helped me. One of the most striking though, occurred about ten years ago. I was waiting at the bus stop in the centre of Athens at about 5:30am to go up to a monstery for the Liturgy. It was winter, so it was dark and it was pouring with rain. Suddenly a drunken man came to the bus shelter to get out of the rain. He kept bothering me and when my bus came he followed me onto it. The last thing I wanted to do was get off the bus in the dark and climb up a deserted mountain with a drunken man! I sat behind the driver and kept praying to Panagia to protect me. Suddenly after about two bus stops, at 5:30am (!) a ticket inspector got on the bus! The drunk man didn't have a ticket and ran off the bus before the door closed!!! I was just amazed at how Panagia came to my aid!

Fr. P had me pray the akathist to that icon while writing that icon as a prayer for the Theotokos to help some emotional wounds from growing up. That was not a pretty experience. I was very stressed out while praying that prayer and the Theotokos shows that very stress on her face in the icon. But the Theotokos did begin to hear my prayer and over the next few years began to have her son heal the wounds. The experience was such a powerful one that the x-wife refused to let me write that icon ever again.

I love her and feel very close to her. She's helped me through difficult times this past year with my son. I wish I'd started petitioning her for prayers to her Son years ago. She's a comfort to me.
