Wow....I just realized that Hebrew 12:1 is exactly that:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

This is awesome! =)

God bless!

Wow.....I think here's a good idea:

Begin with Hebrews 11. Hebrews 11 mentions all the wonderful people who were sold out for God. And then Hebrews 12:1 reveals that earthly believers are among those in heaven (Heb 12:22-24, Eph 3:15) since the body of Christ is one body (Eph 4:4,25).

Since we're running the race for God, it's encouraging to know that those who went before us are pretty much cheering us on (Heb 12:1), so it's as if you're on a football team, and all the veteran football players are out in the stands cheering you on. And they're also praying for you as well (i.e. praying that God's will be done in their lifes).

I guess that's a good place to start =)

Same for Mary. We honor her as the mother of Jesus. She holds a very special place in the Catholic faith, but she is not our Savior, she is not God, she does not forgive sins, she doesn't answer prayer. She HELPS us take our petitions to God.

Jesus thought a great deal of His mother. His very first miracle was at HER request. At the wedding in Cana, when the hosts ran out of wine, Mary went to her Son and asked Him to help. He told her that it wasn't yet His time.....yet He still turned the water into wine.

And Mary gives us the best direction of all. She tells us, "Do whatever He tells you to."

Peace be with you,

Hi VOW,

Thanks for the insight!  I never looked at it like that before :) I always wondered what Jesus meant by "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." :)

God bless!

To Jason:

The first miracle at the Wedding in Cana is the PERFECT example as to why we should hold Mary in great esteem. Jesus was a good Jew, and He certainly obeyed the commandment, "Honor your father and your mother." His mother asked Him for help, and He gave it.

Having Mary carry your prayer to Jesus is a very powerful thing!

Peace,

very good on explaining praying to the dead, but how about mary

By the way, here's some fascinating passages:

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women (Luke 1:28, KJV)

And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? (Luke 1:43, KJV)

For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. (Luke 1:48)

The greek word for 'generations' is 'genea' as in 40 years.  So basically the passage says that in every 'jewish long' generation (i.e. 40 year period), they will call her blessed.

But keep in mind this is not worship, it's veneration.  Big difference.  Worship is entirely for God.

God bless!

IF YOU WANT TO PROVE OR DISPROVE CATHOLIC DOCTRINE WITH SCRIPTURE, WHY DON'T YOU READ THE BIBLE YOURSELVES, INSTEAD OF ASKING PEOPLE FOR QUOTES, WHICH COULD BE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT? NO ONE CAN HAVE A PERSONAL WALK WITH CHRIST UNLESS HE/SHE IS WILLING TO GO ON THAT WALK, (NOT HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DO YOUR SEARCHING FOR YOU). EXAMINE THE BIBLE (THE DIVINELY INSPIRED WORD OF GOD)! DON"T TAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S WORD FOR IT, FOR THEIR JOURNEY IS NOT YOUR JOURNEY. THE WORD OF GOD IS AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO READ, I SUGGEST THAT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC, GET A COPY OF THE CHATECISM AND A COPY OF THE BIBLE (THE AUTHORIZED CATHOLIC VERSION IF YOU LIKE) AND COMPARE THE TWO. IF YOU CAN ACCEPT THE CATECHISM, BECOME ROMAN CATHOLIC. IF YOU CAN'T, EXPLORE UNTIL YOU FIND A FAITH THAT YOU KNOW IS THE ONE JESUS LEADS YOU TOWARD. IF YOUR SALVATION IS OF MINIMAL IMPORTANCE, PUT YOUR FAITH IN THE ADVICE OF MAN. IF YOU PUT YOUR FAITH IN GOD'S HOLY WORD, AND TRUST THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL LEAD YOU TO THE TRUTH, YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER THAT CHRIST IS EAGER TO GIVE. GOD'S PLAN WILL BE REVEALED TO YOU!

JESUS TURNS LIVES UPSIDE DOWN. I AM BEGINNING TO LIKE THE VIEW STANDING ON MY HEAD!

IF YOU TRUST IN HIM, JESUS WILL GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER POSSIBLY FATHOM! GIVE YOUR LIFE TO HIM. THOSE WHO KEEP THEIR LIVES SHALL LOSE THEM. THOSE WHO GIVE THEIR LIVES TO CHRIST RECEIVE FAR MORE IN RETURN THAN THEY COULD EVER IMAGINE!!!!!

JESUS IS LORD!!!

You are, of course, entirely right that people should not rely entirely on quotes which might be taken out of context.

However, I do wish to point out that trusting yourself to correctly interpret the Bible has been, historically, a mug's game. How many millions of people figured slavery was just fine, 'cuz they saw it in the Bible?

I renew my commitment to Jesus daily. I recite the Rosary, ask Saints to pray for me and others, read the Bible, talk to Jesus, etc...

I didn't get "saved" one time. I get renewed every day.

swalker,

Wow.  You must really have a problem with the Catholic Church.  Please check out some of your other posts where I have kindly left you a reminder of the rules.  Any further violations will result in a warning.
