So do I, but not enough to base doctrine on them alone. They are supposed to support doctrine, not initiate them.

Actually, the parables are the only source of actual teachings of Jesus... anything else is subject to recollection errors and personal interpretation.
Parables was the way Jesus taught back then. Even in the non-canonical scripture, they are fairly consistently recorded.

Please tell me you're kidding. I'm afraid to go look. :(

And rightfully so. I know you spent much of your time here in the debate forums such as GA and CreVo, but there are Christians-Only debate areas that are horrible. I remember a few years ago taking issue over the Unorthodox Christianity sub-forum, because it was like open season on JW's and LDS. It was so void of people actually trying to reach an understanding through civil , thought-provoking discourse. Most of the discussions were to the tune of, "hey, Mormons? Is it true you guys are pervs who just want to make your kids wear magical underpants and marry ten women so you can live off my hard-earned tax dollars?" and "gee, JW's, why are you so cruel that you won't let your kids celebrate Christmas?" It was horrible, and anytime someone of a non-trinitarian Christian faith would try and defend themselves, they would be reported for "promoting non-christian religion".

It was bad, and I'm sure it still is, especially since LeeD has some sort of prejudice against Mormons. He said so in an interview and even went so far as to have members of another forum banned because they were members of the Latter-Day Saints church. This was a forum for mothers to talk about parenting issues, not a religion-based forum.

The theology forums are pretty bad as well. Lee has some sort of vision for "inreach". Perhaps the staff should quit worrying about demonizing and isolating the non-christian member base and start focusing more on all of the infighting that occurs in the CO forums.

That's inexcusable, but I can give you a tour in GA, Kat, of some pretty vile stuff (unless Admin has deleted it by now).

I, myself, came here with a cheery attitude; but after a while of being called everything but what's in my profile, I guess my true colors came out.

My experiences have always pointed to Christians leaving the Christian faith due to treatment by fellow Christians,
Christian:
That word is used loosely.

Many will say to me in that day,
Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?
and in thy name have cast out devils?
and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work iniquity. http://christianforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=49176901#_ftn1

But yes, Christians can also be stupid for a minute.

True. What I find odd though is the idea that somehow segregating a Christian from outside influence is somehow going to "stop the bleeding" so to speak. If the experiences I have read about or directly seen are any indication. That sort of smothering can and often has the opposite effect.

I'm not really aware of what's going on (I'm embarrassed to admit)
I spend most of my time in GT 'debating' and discussing. (I don't
believe that I"m one of the mud slingers, but I'm sure there's much
room for improvement too :sorry:

Saw a link in LLOJ's post and followed it to this thread.
So are you saying that CF no longer allows non Christians
to post outside of this particular folder?

Sorry,
sunlover

No. There are just some odd rules now for this new forum that simultaneously limit non Christian posts in an odd fashion, from a technical(as in running a website) standpoint. And the general way this is slowly moving towards a super restriction over non-Christian posting in general. I see it a little as a microcosm of Christians I've known that take the whole don't yolk yourself stuff to an extreme level in social circles.

I see Sidereal.
Some people here at CF want it to be a Christian only website and
so do tend to petition for that.
Others want to interact with all people.
I wouldnt worry about it though. And I agree
with you that there are some extremists in any
situation. It's all good though!!
Count it all JOY!

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way,
consider it an opportunity for great joy.
For you know that when your faith is tested,
your endurance has a chance to grow.
So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed,
you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.http://christianforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=49190047#_ftn2

Greetings. It doesn't appear to be that way on the non-Christians religion board from what I have seen as Muslims and other religions appear to be allowed to debate and not just ask questions. I could be wrong though. Peace.........

That goes to show how much people really wanted answers.
It shows how little people wanted preaching. Where are our replacements, the billions of people who want nothing more than to be preached to? Who will unquestioningly swallow everything you say with wide eyes and nodding heads?

Greetings. I would say that depends on who they talk to first and has the best arguements, the Catholics, Orthodox or Protestants and everyone in between.....
