I think we're next.

Times, they are a-changing. Come one, come all, current NCR posters, past NCR posters. Post here before NCR is no more.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

I didn't spend much time in GA, but I'm sad they closed it. I know there were times tempers would flare, but GA was comprised of a pretty solid, respectable group of Christians and non-christians alike. Many people who participated in the apologetics debates don't participate much in the other forums. I'm hoping they will be able to find somewhat of a safe haven elsewhere on this site, even though I'm getting the feeling that the intentions of the upper staff are for us to not feel we have a safe haven.

I also noticed we've lost some really terrific mods and admins over the past few months. It's really a shame. I wonder if apologetics debates will be tolerated here. I also wonder if this forum will be the next to go. :(

To some extent, I can agree with reformation. If non Christians are sincere in their questions, they will spend their time asking honest questions and try to get them answered without the long drawn out tactics I see so often. However, I don't know if this specific method is totally appropriate.

Thank you Rahma, for bringing this to my attention.

Well...
Seen it coming when LeeD first took over and decided to overhaul the forum.

I haven't been here posting in about a month and here I come back to this...just confirms my reasoning in deciding this place is nothing good for me where christians do not come to minister or to "prove" their religion, but a place to be coddled while they may practice being a teaching christian.
No one cares about our reasoning, understanding or even how we feel. What they care about is being right and certainly many topics in GA showed them to be very far from truth, at least a truth that could be proven as true and factual as they believe.

My time is up here. For so long on staff and putting my time into this place it is now a * hole where only people with like minds can express their beliefs as truth. Because obviously our truths cannot be refuted by christians in a civilized discussion/debate and they want to make damn sure we don't have any back up by not allowing other non Cs to post in our threads.

As far as I am concerned everyone on staff who is allowing this without saying what a crock it is...is as much a sell out and a hypocrite - including everyone I ever called "friend"

I find more Christ-like behavior between NCR folks interacting than with same faith icon toting folks doing so, even in their own forums.

The exception (other than the occasional exceptional individual) are the OO folks. I find they walk the walk more than everyone else.

Christ-like behavior? That's very strange indeed. If I may assume that "Christ-like" means "doing what Christ taught," then this teaching comes to mind,
Then they said to him, "What must we do, to be doing the works of God?" Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent." (John 6:28-29)
Non-Christians are therefore not Christ-like by definition. Jesus taught his people to live by faith,
"For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20)
This faith is not some arbitrary faith in whatever you feel like placing your faith in. As the first passage makes clear, Jesus teaches us to have faith in God, and in Jesus Christ whom he has sent. He said that anyone who did not believe in him stood condemned (John 3:18). Therefore all non-Christian religions are false, all non-Christians are living in sin by practicing their respective religions, and whatever one may call the behavior of non-Christians, it cannot be called Christ-like. No doubt you will tell me that Jesus says not to judge, yet it was Jesus who said,
You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. (John 8:15-16)
You may say that I ought not judge non-Christians. But in speaking positively of "Christ-like" behavior, you lend a certain credibility to the teachings of Jesus. Yet it is these very teachings which condemn all non-Christians to an eternity in hell. How easy it is to label sinful behavior as Christ-like when one has the freedom to cut the Scriptures in pieces and paste them together in any order he likes! The behavior you are referring to is not Christ-like behavior. It is behavior that conforms to your own personal moral code, which you have incorrectly attributed to Christ. This is idolatry.

I know that what I've written sounds rather harsh, and you'll have to take my word when I say that I do not bear any ill-will towards you. But I am deeply concerned that many people on this forum refer to alleged teachings of Christ that do not exist in Scripture. This is done primarily through redefinition of words. "Love" becomes indifference to sin. "Tolerance" (which is taught in Scripture) becomes the belief that non-Christian religions are true and valid means of reaching God, and that consequently God won't send non-Christians to hell. "Faith" becomes blind trust in any belief or religious system, and is seen as virtuous even when the object of faith is a false idol instead of Jesus Christ the Son of God. And even then, portions of Scripture which disagree with one's personal code of conduct are ignored completely. Allow this line of reasoning to continue, and the very concept of absolute truth is lost, and the word of God becomes irrelevant. Such a distorted view of the teachings of Christ do not come from a desire to earnestly obey Jesus Christ, but to circumvent his teachings because they are inconvenient. Yet Christ promised that his words would never pass away. You can't make excrement shine by calling it gold, and likewise you can't make non-Christian religions godly by referring to them as Christ-like.

"Yet it is these very teachings which condemn all non-Christians to an eternity in hell.."

Yeh that's where fear comes in that "eternity in hell".....

Some how when the Lord Jesus taught everyone was "non-Christian" ... when you consider that the term "Christian" wasn't even used when Jesus was alive it could raise some questions:

11:25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
(King James Bible, Acts)

and so how many varieties are there of those who call themselves Christian?

One place says:

According to the World Christian Encyclopedia (year 2000 version), global Christianity had 33,820 denominations with 3,445,000 congregations/churches composed of 1,888 million affiliated Christians.

another place has:

This is not a complete list, but aims to provide a comprehensible overview of the diversity among denominations of Christianity. As there are reported to be over 38,000 Christian denominations..

Source:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other_Christians

Probably the actual number is growing daily..maybe hourly...

And now do all these 38,000 plus denominations which represent the true Christianity we could ask... I wonder...

With over 38,000 choices for a non-Christian to choose from to avoid eternal hell it really is a stretch ...

What about the belief in "eternity in hell" among Christians..?

The Eastern Orthodox pray for the dead, and they believe that sometimes a lost soul can be saved after death through the prayers of the living..

Some Protestants (such as George MacDonald, Karl Barth, Keith DeRose and Thomas Talbott), also, however, in a minority, believe that after serving their sentence in Gehenna, all souls are reconciled to God and admitted to heaven, or ways are found at the time of death of drawing all souls to repentance so that no "hellish" suffering is experienced...

Seventh-day Adventists do not believe the wicked will suffer for eternity in hell, but instead teach conditional immortality.

The early Christian theologian Origen of Alexandria who lived about 185-254 CE reasoned:

Origen was unable to conceive of a God who would create souls that were capable of dissolving into the oblivion of evil (non-being) for all eternity. Therefore, he reasoned that a single lifetime is not enough for a soul to achieve salvation, for certain souls require more education or 'healing' than others. So he developed his doctrine of multiple ages, in which souls would be re-born, to experience the educative powers of God once again, with a view to ultimate salvation...

http://www.iep.utm.edu/o/origen.htm#SH3b

Now here's a Christian view that says:

"...everlasting punishment meant that someone was capable of thwarting the will of God forever, since it was the divine will that all be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:4; Princ. 3.6.5). As long as hell remained, all were not redeemed and God's will was frustrated.

I don't know... I think there's room for doubt... Being non-Christian can be redemptive I think.

Be ye a rich treasure to every indigent one; consider love and union as a delectable paradise, and count annoyance and hostility as the torment of hell-fire

I'd like to inform everyone here that they owe me about $30. You may not remember it, but I loaned it to you a few weeks back. Paying me back would be so appreciated, you'll get a gift of choice from the bag. You may even see what's in the bag, and remember you owe me more. I'm not selling anything, and if you're sure you don't owe me money, just tell me.

But I'd recommend you remember owing me $30, otherwise this party will suck.

I think that all of you Non-Christians should stay...(if for no other reason than just to annoy us Christians ^_^).

On a serious note, though...if you are going to leave I'd just like to thank you all so much for making me laugh (cry with laughter sometimes) and for giving me the reality check that was sometimes so very needed. Also for just being so nice to me and for making me think (which I don't do enough of sometimes ).

Thank you

You may say that I ought not judge non-Christians.

Many thanks.

You ought not to judge non-Christians.

Firstly, because judgement belongs to God alone, and if we take his place we break the first commandment, and commit blasphemy.

Secondly, because Matthew 25 says any one of us may end up being judged as one of the goats, however much we protest our faith and piety. While those 'non Christians' will enter eternity.

However, go ahead if it makes you feel good.
