So she gave 2% of her income to charity, and paid 10%-ish in taxes?

Greaaaaaat....
Many americans with children pay far less percentage in taxes and yet get more than 5 or more times that amount back in a refund. They get a bonus check back every year. That's a problem to me.

The problem with what people make and what people spend is so far from being balanced that is partly how we got into the financial mess we are in now here in this country. Don't buy what you can't afford!

Someone should really let our government in on this tip ;)

Yes, it's called the EITC. It's a negative income tax. It gives the working poor with families a credit to help offset the cost of their Social Security taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, perhaps, etc.

George W. Bush gave tax cuts to most working Americans, but he didn't raise the EITC (too expensive, I guess....)

I think that people who have a problem with that have a problem.

Bear in mind that Biden is catholic. Maybe he didn't want his charitable contributions going to help court settlements for priest-on-boy rape cases. Lots of catholics are giving less due to the 2 billion the catholic church has spent in the last 50 years on these settlements.
btw, I believe most of us give more than Palin - I know I do. The amount of giving she does, relative to her income, is nothing to be boasting about.

Well she does have 5 kids.

I'd rather have someone working to give millions of people a better life then someone who gave a couple thousand more to charities and took my tax money to fund her pet projects in a state with a surplus due to oil.

Well, if Barry gets elected you'll be in luck. He'll steal every penny he can from the those that earned it and give it to those that didn't. In Socialist-speak that's fair according to Biden.

Like many americans? How many American families make 300,000$ per year? 5%? 2%?

Over two years? In Alaska? You folks have no earthly idea what the cost of living is in AK, do you? Nor are you familiar with what average pay is.

Bear in mind that Biden is catholic. Maybe he didn't want his charitable contributions going to help court settlements for priest-on-boy rape cases. Lots of catholics are giving less due to the 2 billion the catholic church has spent in the last 50 years on these settlements.

Smear and completely irrelavent. He could have given his money to some other charity, but didn't.

Not true.

I know I do

Compared to Biden, yeah it is. She and Todd earn much less and give much more....with 5 (now 4 including a special needs kid, with a grandbaby on the way) at home.

In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080.

But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325.

Two things I infer from this - in 06 she paid less than 10% taxes. Amazing first of all. In 07 her taxes were more realistic, but her giving went down.

The Palins give 2% of her income to charity and you started a thread to brag about how much better than makes her?

Yep....see above.

That's what I want to know, whose idea of like many Americans is that?

Statistics.

Aren't you embarassed that you started this thread yet?

Yeah, um, speaking of smear...

No, we don't. But we do know how to ask Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=median+income+alaska

And the first hit is: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/elections/keyraces/census/ak/

And that link tells us the answer is: $59,593 in Alaska. Or about $120K in two years.

Don't buy what you can't afford!

You mean like rent and health care? Working-class Americans are strapped just getting by on the basics.

Whose definition of 'earned' are you using? Why do you believe it to be the valid measure?

What does that even mean? If you get 5 times more than you paid, you're not paying taxes at all.

Just as she has held herself out to be, the Palin's are a hardworking 2 income earning family like many Americans. For 2006 and 2007 the Palin's grossed about $300,000 total. In '07 she got a pay increase for becoming Gov. of AK, so their income went from $130,000 to $170,000 per year. In those two years they gave over $8,000 in charity. This is where it get interestng. Biden by contrast, made over $568,000 for the same 2 years but gave a paltry $1,375 to charity. And unless I'm mistaken, Biden has no minor children.

This is just one more confirmation of recent studies that conservatives way out-give in everything including volunteering compared to liberals. It would appear that liberals think of government as the ultimate charity. Afterall, Biden said that paying taxes is "patriotic"!

Many Christians, myself included, do not list money given to the Church. It's kind of cheesy to expect a tax break for your giving. I never declared my Compassion International giving either. And etc.

1 Question.
Why do we even get to look over there Tax returns ?
It's supposed to symbolize the transparency they aren't afraid of - before they start hiding behind "executive privilege" whenever questioned as Bush has done :D

Once one of them releases their tax records, then the others not doing (like Cindy McCain) raises questions about what those individuals are hiding.

Darn right.

Conservatives are the party of charity, whereas liberals are the party of expropriation. It's largely due to religious differences, IMHO
