The Church of England will concede in a statement that it was over-defensive and over-emotional in dismissing Darwin's ideas. It will call "anti-evolutionary fervour" an "indictment" on the Church".

The apology, which has been written by the Rev Dr Malcolm Brown, the Church's director of mission and public affairs, says that Christians, in their response to Darwin's theory of natural selection, repeated the mistakes they made in doubting Galileo's astronomy in the 17th century.

Maybe they should wait to bring their guy in charge of the Royal Society in line first before they issue that apology. Apologising to Darwin while simultaneously eroding ToE's well deserved position in schools sounds a little hollow, to say the least.

But of course the evanfundies will shrug it off, claiming the Church of England aren't "real" Christians.
Of course not. And neither are Catholics, who were to blame for the whole Galileo thing. (I'm pretty sure Independent Fundamentalist Baptists get everything right.)

Of course the Church of England has always been a little wierd. Don't forget that it was formed as a breakaway movement from the Roman Catholic Church because Henry VIII wanted a whole new wife to play with, and the parent Roman Catholic Church refused to allow it.

But Henry, being advanced for his time, knew that there were powers that existed outside of Rome, outside of the then One True Church (tm) so he consulted a Jedi, who told him to start his own Church, marry Ann Boleyn, and do what he wanted to do. The Jedi Knight of course farwelled him by saying:

May di vorce be with you...

The rest is history.

Now you see one reason why I'm an independent Baptist.
So you can ideologically detach yourself from your fellow Christians if you disagree with them, while simultaneously holding the resident scientists responsible for everything from thalidomide to phlogiston.

And don't forget that atheists carry the blame for Stalin.

Do not forget Pol Pot, I mean if we are to be blamed for every murdering ba$tard out there

1949 - Pol Pot wins a government scholarship to study radio electronics in Paris. He fails to obtain a degree but becomes enthralled by writings on Marxism and revolutionary socialism and forges bonds with other likeminded young Cambodians studying in the metropolis, including Ieng Sary, Khieu Samphan, Khieu Ponnary and Song Sen. The members of this so-called 'Paris student group' are destined to become the leaders of the Khmer Rouge.
While in Paris Pol Pot also joins the French Communist Party and helps transform the Association of Khmer Students into a platform for nationalist and leftist ideas, openly challenging the Sihanouk government.
In a pamphlet titles 'Monarchy or Democracy' he writes, "(The monarchy) is a vile pustule living on the blood and sweat of the peasants. Only the National Assembly and democratic rights give the Cambodian people some breathing space. ... The democracy which will replace the monarchy is a matchless institution, pure as a diamond."

Whether I disagree or agree, it doesn't matter. All independent Baptist churches are autonomous.

Science took the credit for it, science can take the blame for it.

According to atheistic science, death is necessary for improvement. Stalin may have been operating under the tenets of the Malthusian Doctrine.

And Hitler.
According to atheistic science, death is necessary for improvement. Hitler may have been operating under the tenets of creating a genetically superior race of people.

Science took the credit for it, science can take the blame for it.

One of the good things about science (which you view as a flaw) is that it changes its conclusions if evidence shows they're wrong. Everything we know has only the status of "the best explanation we have to date". We know, for instance, that some adjustment will have to be made to stop general relativity and quantum mechanics from being contradictory, but each remains an excellent model of reality at the scale it is meant to explain.

One upshot of this is that we don't need to take the "blame" for now outdated notions like phlogiston. When we see a contradiction, we try to fix it rather than trying to pretend it isn't a contradiction at all.

Good for you --- we call that Paradox Resolution.
