Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: Deuteronomy 1:19-36

Deuteronomy 1:30-31 (NET) “The LORD your God is about to go ahead of you; he will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt 31 and in the desert, where you saw him carrying you along like a man carries his son. This he did everywhere you went until you came to this very place.”

The Israelites were literally feet away from the Promised Land. The promise given to Abraham so many years prior was within in their sight and grasp. They had witnessed God’s power in the plagues and His deliverance at the Red Sea. But there was one problem: they were disobedient to the Lord.

Today’s text outlines some of the ways the Israelites were disobedient.

*They chose to believe the bad reports instead of the good reports from the spies. They mistrusted in God’s strength and protection (1:22-26).

*They blamed God for all their troubles caused by their lack of faith and trust (1:27-28).

*They choose to forget all God had done and promised and complained instead (1:29-32).

The choice to trust the Lord or cower in complaining fear faces us as Christians. Will we believe God when all else around us fails? Will we remember that God is not to blame, but often sin in our own lives is? Will we praise Him for what He has done and has yet to do?

It is one thing to point at the Israelites lack of faith, and it is another to realize we often are no better than they were at trusting God than we are often day by day.

Faith Lesson: The same God who gave every reason for Israel to trust Him is the same God that is the Author of our salvation today.
