It has been a problem for me to know what to do with apostate Bibles. I would not want to destroy them because they do contain some of the word of God in them. But I do not really want to donate them to pass them onto others, because they can lead a person astray. Has anyone ever come up with a solution as to what to do with the apostate versions of the Bible. We tend to end up with quite a few of them because we take up collections for the Philippines and things like that. Thanks, JohnR7

perhaps you could do some sort of fundraiser in your church to raise money for scripturally sound bibles. maybe you could cut a deal with your local christian bookstore and get them at a discount. i'm sure you could find some paperback ones that are cheap.

personally, i wouldn't let a false bible get into anyones hands. i'd give them tracts, or a video or anything else instead.

No kidding?

Well, I have some Greek New Testament and Hebrew Old Testaments, Greek Old Testaments, and Latin Bibles, as well as about 25 translations. I guess they would make a good bon-fire?

Seriously, many people are dying for even a scrap of the Scriptures. And in 98% of the Bible there is absolutely no difference between the KJV and any other translation. Why not tear those "apostate" Bibles into pieces. I would gladly pass out the pieces, left by some of the KJV Onlyers, to someone who appreciates the Word of God in any translation.

Yikes!
In the third world, Bibles are so expensive few can own one, and it is their most precious possession if they can. They would take any translation of the bible they could get and rely on God to lead them - and you would deny them a Bible at all because they do not fit in with your ideas about what bibles are correct?
And what sort of nonsense is it to give KJVs to people to whom English isn't their first language anyway?

Main Entry: apos·ta·sy
Pronunciation: &-'päs-t&-sE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -sies
Etymology: Middle English apostasie, from Late Latin apostasia, from Greek, literally, revolt, from aphistasthai to revolt, from apo- + histasthai to stand -- more at STAND
Date: 14th century
1 : renunciation of a religious faith
2 : abandonment of a previous loyalty : DEFECTION

This is the meaning of the word. I ask that you please keep all conversation on this matter in a NON-INTRUSIVE form. You realaize you are condeming people for reading the words of God. Who are you to make that call. Show me in any translation that the KJV is IT. Nothing above it. All are below it. You could not quote one piece of scripture that says if you dont read the KJV you are condemed.

You can quote scripture that says man is not to alter the word of God. But i tell you this, even the KJV is missing words. This is a fact my friend. Altho it might be less then the next but if one word was missing it is no better then any other. As far as translation i am sure you would use the deffense that teh KJV hasnt really changed in 100's of years since waht? 1611ad? And i tell you this. New information has been found since then. the DSS and so forth that can either confirm or confilict information in the written word.

Yes the KJV was put on as a project from King James and it was drafed off of the bishops? bible. but this is an age old debate. The KJV is supposed to come from 1 set of scriptures that supposidly dont conflict much and the NIV/NASB and so forth all come from another set of scripture that is more commenly translated.

yes i also know that the main man that help put the niv/nasb bibles together renounced his work in those area and he felt he was called to the KJV.

I ask you this.

If a man says hey the sky is falling, do you go running?
If God tells you the sky is falling, YOU HAD BETTER PRAY and hold fast to your faith and the word of God.

dont get me wrong. Translation debates are by all means a valid conversations. But be wery as to not step on on other people. You believe KJV or bust. I say good for you man. Follow the word of God brother and I will see you in heaven. You say NIV or bust. I say good for you man. Follow the word of God brother and I will see you in heaven.

You say you dont believe at all? I say that is your choice man, but let me tell you a story of this guy i know who lost his son and had him return....

its not a matter of your works. Those are for God. but if you have the means to plant a seed why dont you plant it, and let God judge the worthness of the crop.

JohnR7 i didnt see that line you quoted above and i dont mean to overlook anyone. I myself expect to always get moderated on.

Would everyone please understand that we are here to listen and grow as people in Christ. Please stop telling others what they have to do or what they do is nonsense. The lowblows are getting way out of hand everywere and as children of God we should not stoop to those levels.

and john sorry to fail to mention i did change the topic of this thread to be less threatening and more of a disscuation orinated. If you feel I was wrong please PM me and we can discuss it.

The questions I have yet to have answered by someone who holds to a "KJV only" stance is this: True or False, is the KJV a transliteration ? Also, did the Apostle Paul quote only from the Hebrew or did he also quote from the LXX ? Also, does the LXX have any variances with the Masoretic Text ?

Shucks; I thought Moses wrote the KJV. Just joking ofcourse. You know; when I got saved, the only book I wanted to read was the KLV Bible. I was broughtr up in a church that still believes that the KJV is the only Bible. If we had the "original" KJV today, we could not understand it. Anyone who has not, and is interested in knowing where our English Bible originated, needs to do some studying on Bible translations, and their origin. I still love the KJV, but thank GOD I got my head out of the sand, and have been for several years studying a lot of different material; and a lot of different English translations of the Bible. I believe through prayer, and the Holy Spirit we are guided into truth if that is what we truely are looking for:Matt 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
(KJV) Matt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.(NIV) Matt.5: 6 God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice, for they will receive it in full.(NLT)Matt.5:
6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.(NRSV)Matt.5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, /P2 For they shall be filled.(NKJV). Tell me now; which of these are wrong? They are all saying the same thing in just a little different way. I thank GOD for the work that is put into giving us translations that are closer to the language that we speak. There are a lot of very good statements above on this. I doubt that there are any of us on here that speak, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek. I will go further and say I doubt that there are any of on here that speak any of these languages.
Matt.5:6, With the love of Jesus Christ,
irwin

I also think you need to be cautious when making statements about translations because you begin to put doubt in people's minds... am I sinning when I am reading this Bible or that? Am I receiving less than the Word of God? Will the Holy Spirit lead me no matter what version I read because my heart is sincere?

I have read the NIV Bible for years now, and have just purchased the NIV Quest Bible. I did quite a comparison between verses on the NIV and KJV before I purchased my first one. I feel that the Spirit enlightens us as we read God's Word - if only we ask - whether it be the KJV and the NIV.

However, since you've brought it up - give more information about the man who renounced his work on NIV... because although my thirst for the Word is being quenched by my NIV, you've now created some questions and doubt in my mind (which I am not happy about). However, as an intelligent woman who prays for discernment, I feel it is my responsibility to ask for more information. ~kim

Revelation 1-6
Christ returns and the elect [chosen, few] firstfruits are saved
THEN
Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
So AFTER the return ofChrist the gospel gets TAUGHT by an ANGEL to the WHOLE EARTH

So what use is the Bible before this, it could maybe be of use to the few, the 144,000 of the tribes of Israel [but not Dan or Ephraim, just the other 12....Joseph continued as a small tribe through his other descendants after adoption of his first two sons by their grandfather, Jacob (Israel) ] - but they have all the help from God that they need anyway by predestination and the power of the spirit of God

So maybe the bible is of use in getting people at least some of the way toward love as a way of life.....

Now even a dreadful translation can lead a person to see that Yeshua was loving and so understand our Father through witness of him,
and so accept Yeshua as saviour,
believe his right to make the promise,
and ask God to tell him/her the truth
through the spirit of truth.
But the spirit of truth leads us
into all truth, even the deep things of God
that CANNOT BE WRITTEN or uttered
so even a sad translation worls the same miracle
as the preacher
to get people to ask God for the truth
and so be saved
through the holy spirit.

Don't throw any bibles away, they are priceless
as are our words to everyone we meet about our saviour
and our acts that witness his love in us.

Actually, Frank Lodgson was a friend of the founder of the Lockman Foundation, which produced the NAS; he had no association with the NIV. However, he was not on the translation team of the NAS. He was only in a secondary, personal advisory role. You might want to check the response of the Lockman Foundation regarding his supposed "abandoning the NAS." It's far different than the view presented above.

Kim,

If you are using the NIV, NAS, or another good translation, don't worry. They are God's Word. Use them with confidence. And grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Because I can't understand the archaic language of the KJV, having only a KJV is like having no Bible at all for me. Of what use is the word of God that cannot be understood and acted upon? I sometimes read the KJV to appreciate the poetry, but to really study, I use one of the other 26 versions I have on the bookshelf.
