So, I have a person at church using him, and one of his win $500,000 to prove evolution, and since no one claimed it they must not be able to prove evolution challenges as evidence. Instead of going though and attacking it point by point, which would take more time than I have (a week and I'll be back in college:clap:). So I was wondering, is there some printable argument somewhere that any of you know of. One which would use the Bible to show even portions of the Bible does not support YEC would be best.

If any of you have experienced 'The Evidence Bible', which is one of the cancers of Christianity, this guy is a like a walking talking version of it.

Also, how do you explain to someone within a time span of less than a hour that there being tons of water in the sky in the form of clouds does not defy the theory of gravity?

I really don't want to give up on this guy, because I think if I can get him to see reason, he will be a big help to the cause of reason. Luckily, I don't think he is a FEer.

I haven't heard of a $500,000 challenge from Hovind, but there is (was?) certainly a $250,000 challenge.

The Challenge
"I have a standing offer of $250,000 to anyone who can give any empirical evidence (scientific proof) for evolution.* My $250,000 offer demonstrates that the hypothesis of evolution is nothing more than a religious belief.

* NOTE: When I use the word evolution, I am not referring to the minor variations found in all of the various life forms (microevolution). I am referring to the general theory of evolution which believes these five major events took place without God:

1. Time, space, and matter came into existence by themselves.
2. Planets and stars formed from space dust.
3. Matter created life by itself.
4. Early life-forms learned to reproduce themselves.
5. Major changes occurred between these diverse life forms (i.e., fish changed to amphibians, amphibians changed to reptiles, and reptiles changed to birds or mammals)."

[quoted from the linked source below]
HERE'S an examination of Hovind's $25,000 offer.

As for a single "paper" that answers creationist claims, there is none. They have made so many ridiculous ones that it would take a huge website to address them all, which, fortunately, has been done: Just click HERE. In all probability anything your friend comes up with will be addressed there.

You will need infinite patience. Be prepared to lose the argument. Just try stick to one or two points you feel comfortable arguing over.

Other than this, I do know what to say.

Good luck.

The closest I have come to arguing against a FEer, is arguing against a person who accepts a geocetric universe. There are still a few of these folk around and to the best of my knowledge, they are all YECs.

Does your friend accept a geocentric solar system?

Easy, just point out to him that Hovind's challenge is set up fraudulently to begin with. To wit-
The Challenge
"I have a standing offer of $250,000 to anyone who can give any empirical evidence (scientific proof) for evolution.* My $250,000 offer demonstrates that the hypothesis of evolution is nothing more than a religious belief.

* NOTE: When I use the word evolution, I am not referring to the minor variations found in all of the various life forms (microevolution). I am referring to the general theory of evolution which believes these five major events took place without God:

3. Matter created life by itself.
4. Early life-forms learned to reproduce themselves.
5. Major changes occurred between these diverse life forms (i.e., fish changed to amphibians, amphibians changed to reptiles, and reptiles changed to birds or mammals)."

(red emphasis above mine)

Simply point out to your friend that Hovinds "challenge" is completely flawed as there is NO "general theory of evolution" that purport all 5 of those events. Hovind has (perhaps purposefully) mixed together cosmology, physics, abiogenesis and the Theory of Evolution in such a way that it is simply impossible to take up his 'challenge' in any meaninful way. Hovind is not, contrary to what many YEC's think, challenging the actual Theory of Evolution (which deals with biology) at all. He is creating a strawman, nothing more.

Perhaps you can explain this to your friend, thus demonstrating that Hovind is not being honest in his 'challenge'. Perhaps this will make your friend at least begin to listen to reason.

Good luck

...and even if Hovind still had the 500k, which I rather doubt given his recent history with the IRS, he never explained who will be in charge of the evaluation process of contenders to his challenge. For all we know, he could be the only one deciding whether somebody won or not.

Tiktaalik, archaeopteryx, yannoconodon allini (jawbone to earbone migration), probainognathus (reptilian jaw joint and mammalian jaw joint). Those are the major ones off the top of my head.

Actually, IIRC, Hovind would hand select a panel of three "impartial" judges to evaluate whether the challenge was satisfied. There was also something about Hovind having the authority to throw out any all and claims he wanted to. Basically, even if you could prove that Hovind's strawman of evolution actually did happen, he could throw out your claim on a whim anyway. No one has won the challenge because it cannot be won.

Some well done paper which shows that Dr. Dino is wrong. I'm trying to find such things, but all I'm getting are second rate 'Lolz at Dr. Dino,' which is not helpful.

There used to be a site called the collected lies of Kent Hovind or something like that but I can't find it right now. Check out some of the "Critical" links on Hovind's Wiki article and I'm sure one of them will list and rebut many of his stinkers.

You are right, I remember that he claimed that now.

Make a challenge of your own:

I will give you 5,000 dollars if you can prove that Jesus was mentioned in the bible.

Conditions:
1. You must show where Jesus said that he likes eggs
2. You must prove that he always had 14 daughters
3. You must disprove the existence of Allah

The tests are about the same.

I was going to post the kent-hovind.com website, but MrDG beat me to it.

If you want some awesome blow-by-blow debunks of some of his terrible science DVDs (including the canopy), on youtube look up the usernames: Thunderf00t and extantdodo. Will post individual links if I have time to go through their videos again (which I really should, they are so awesome).
