And then you have people who are basically just cowards and run around telling people "If you don't understand (read: if you don't believe like I do) you shouldn't comment."
Wow - name call and twist statements much? At least you're consistent.

I am starting my own religion.I hope my employer will like it when I go to work tomorrow in fishnet stalkings, speedo, and high heels. Its part of my religious belief.
Let's hope you're not working at a restaurant. The barf factor would be unbelievable.

If you do this and post a picture, I will pay you five dollars.

Do we have a deal?

I am a Sikh man and the turban that I wear is a religiously-mandated article of clothing. My supervisor tells me that my turban makes my coworkers "uncomfortable," and has asked me to remove it. What should I do?

If a turban is religiously-mandated, you should ask your employer for a religious accommodation to wear it at work. Your employer has a legal obligation to grant your request if it does not impose a burden, or an "undue hardship," under Title VII. Claiming that your coworkers might be "upset" or "uncomfortable" when they see your turban is not an undue hardship.

If you or your employer has questions about employer obligations to accommodate religious practices, feel free to contact EEOC for more detailed information. If your employer continues to insist that you remove your turban, or takes adverse action against you for refusing to remove it, you may want to contact EEOC to file a charge.

Ah yes, a scarf is such a burden on McDonalds, especially when everyone else has to wear either a hat or a hairnet to keep their hair of the food.

Speaking from personal experience as both a hijab wearer and someone with many years experience in food service (including McDonalds), bullocks if this is a burden on them to accomidate this.

Lots of talk, very little substance being bandied about here.

I would be in favor of it as long as the hijab has the McDonalds logo on it.

Long time, no see. Let's do lunch again some time soon. I think we can do a little better than Mickey Dee's, though.

Corporate has a uniform policy. Franchisees have uniform policies. Assistant managers don't.

And some people like to ridicule others. It makes them feel all superior.

When I worked at McDonalds some years ago it was an assistance manager who sent me home for refusing to wear a halloween costume to work that day I had my mcdonald's uniform on but at the time I had no cash to spare to indulge in halloween costumes for myself -- sure he was wrong... but the franchise owner certainly wasn't paying any attention and the manager shrugged his shoulders and said it was water under the bridge at that point. I was still out a day's pay-- it might not have been a huge chunk of change but at that point in my life it was enough to make me have to decide which bill not to pay on time.

It's quite often that someone who doesn't have the authority still creates their own policy.

Which are most likely available from the McDonalds Uniform Catalogue. Otherwise, a solid color scarf that matches the pants color (usually black or navy blue) would look very professional. They could pin said scarf with any one of the hundreds of McDonalds pins that are also available for order.

For those interested in more than just blowing hot air on the subject, here is the EEOC's section on religious discrimination from their compliance manual. It discusses sincerely held beliefs (ie if you want to start a religion and wear fishnets and heels, you have to show your beliefs are sincerely held), as well as how one judges a reasonable accomidation.

I had McD's for breakfast :D You can always tell when a former McDonalds employee orders - I'd like an Egg McMuffin, no canbac, with a folded egg instead of a round.

Drop me an email, as I don't log in here very often and may not catch a pm.

The reason the scarf was not allowed was not because of its religious meaning, but the fact it gets warm behind the counter. That was as per the manager. I don't think they can prove religious discrimination..regardless I find it laughable they are suing for 10 million dollars. They both could work for Mickey D's for 100 years and not even make anywhere close to that

Give them the 10 mil may stop McDonalds employing such xenophobic morons as managers in future

Edited to say the picture is obviously from a Norwegian or Swedish newspaper. It is scientifically proven that there are less xenophobic morons in charge of Maccy Ds in Scandinavia; type Scandinavia, McDonalds and Xenophobic morons into PubMed if you don't believe me.

Find the right lawyer, or do it yourself, you can sue anyone for anything. Winning? Well, that's another story.

Nah, just got to pick the right place to sue at, since the jury would be dictated by the locals. Though this still does take a little luck.
