It makes me sad, because it's coming to an end this Saturday with the Finale of "Sozin's Comet".
On the other hand, they're not dragging it out over umpteen-dozen seasons thereby watering it down, so that makes me happy. They had a definite story to tell, and they're are telling it, along with a final conclusion.
Avatar is, in my opinion, not only the best animated series out there, but also one of the finest television shows period. I will lament the end, but at the same time, I am SO looking forward to the final battle(s)!!

I watched the Book 3 finale Saturday, and I was thoroughly impressed. The last battle was amazing, and all four parts of the finale were well written, which makes it all the more difficult to know that it has finally ended. Though, had they not ended it, fans would be angry, and it wouldn't be good for the show. Personally, I think they could have killed at least one character off, but the ending was great, nonetheless.

Fortunately, they have already bought three more seasons for Avatar*, and on top of that a "live-action feature film" is being made, and is scheduled for July 2, 2010 (hopefully worth the wait).

*This may be untrue, a mistake on my part for not double-checking my sources.

Are they really going to have a fourth season? I already miss Avatar so much...I was hoping that in the finale they'd bring back the Airbenders...maybe they'd still be alive...that would have been cool. Toph was so awesome...so was Iroh. I loved watching Toph kick butt lol.

Ok, that was completely OUTSTANDING!

I was glued to the tv for two hours and as the finale unfolded, my jaw just kept dropping more and more. The final battles between Zuko/Azula and Aang/Ozai were phenomenal....just unbelievably cool

By the way, anybody else recognize the full circle irony? The war started with Sozin, and ended with Zuko...in the beginning the Sozin and Roku were best friends who eventually became enemies (or at least had a MAJOR falling out) and in the end Zuko and Aang were "enemies" who eventually became friends. Love it, nice ending, nice wrap-up.:thumbsup:

Fortunately, they have already bought three more seasons for Avatar
No way, are you kidding me? Source?

Ah, I misread. I couldn't find where I read (or misread) that article, but looking into it, it seems they're considering it.

"Talks are reportedly underway to extend the show beyond just three seasons, which was the original plan by the creators. However, if there is a fourth season, it will likely follow a different storyline other than the Fire Lord and Fire Nation trying to take over the world, as both Nick executives and the co-creators have said season three will be when Aang faces the Fire Lord." Article.

This was written shortly after Day of Black Sun aired, so there's no guarantee. Based on the show's success, there's a good chance for a fourth season.

Wow it sounded like Avatar is a great show. How many episodes does have total?
Season 1- 20 episodes
Season 2- 20 episodes
Season 3- 21 episodes, but the last 4 are combined into a 4 hour series finale movie

There is actually a trilogy of live action movies planned with M. Night Shamalyan as director (of the first at least). Can he pull off a straight up fantasy/action flick? I think it will stretch him as a director, and the kung-fu had better be great, not just editing room magic.
