Yo, check this out....

I was talking to a very learned pastor friend of mine, and these are what he says are the 3 best translations you can find, best version first:

1. New American Standard Bible
2. English Standard Version
3. New King James Version

I've read about each, and they're excellent choices. The NASB is the best, most literal translation, but more difficult to read. The ESV is a little easier to read, but is "essentially literal", meaning it uses some idiom to clear up difficult wordings. The NKJV is slightly less literal than the ESV, but is an even easier read. I hope this is helpful....

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles ? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruits is hewn down, and cast into the Fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name ? And in thy name have cast out devils ? And in thy name done many wonderful works ? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

TheTruth, while I appreciate your response to my inquiry, I am still uncertain as to your position on why exactly you do not appreciate any translation other than the King James Version.

Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but the version of Scripture reference you gave, I John 5:7, is not drawn from the earliest documents available. In fact, it is drawn from the early Roman Catholic translation, the Latin Vulgate, where the statement "testify in Heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. 8 And there are three that testify on earth, the" is found. None of the early Greek manuscripts dated before the 16th century have this line. This statement was evidently added at a later time to clarify the doctrine of the Trinity, a doctrine that I nevertheless do accept. I hope this has been helpful.

Nothing has been added, some people just don't understand what they read.

John 19:19 - 22 Those who refuse to abandon their fasle religion and choose to cling to their worthless idols forfeit the grace of God that could be theirs in Christ. Jesus Christ, Saint Peter said, is the only name given to us by God for salvation. Therefore, anyone who does not come into this name cannot be saved. All who refuse to convert to Christianity are refusing the only name of salvation that God has given to the world. All who refuse to convert to Christianity are rejecting God's grace in favor for their fasle religion and their worthless idols.
