Ok...the Comcast guy just walked out of the door, and here I am!!! I am so glad to have the internet again! I feel like I've been so out of touch with the world. It's crazy how much we rely on the internet and television (which we didn't have till now, either).
The drive was very slow, but went smoothly. The only bit of excitement (or should I say, frustration?) came when my dh got the truck/trailer stuck in a parking lot the first night. He thought the hotel parking lot went all of the way around the back of the building, but there was no exit. We were towing our car on a car carrier and he has very little experience driving with one of those, let alone backing them up. We got in a very bad predicament and he was VERY upset. Finally, some guy walked up and asked us if we needed help. He was a trucker and got our truck right out of there, parked us next to his rig and gave some very helpful pointers for getting out the next day. He also went online and checked into our next hotel to see if they had truck parking. God is so good to send people like this into our paths to help us when we really are in over our heads!
The rest of the trip was uneventful. The kids watched movies and read books. We also had the Narnia books on cd to listen to. Those were a big hit. We arrived around 3 in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Move in day to our apartment was on Thursday and it couldn't have been more hot and humid. We are not used to humidity at all. It was utterly miserable, but we had many helpers from church that made the job go quickly. The entire congregation has been so welcoming, it is really great. Sunday evening they had a welcome pot-luck/grocery shower for us. It was so nice of them to do this, as it was going to be quite an expense to get our kitchen re-stocked.
We are in an apartment for a few months while we find a house to purchase. It is much smaller than the home we just left in Utah. While we were unloading the truck, it was becoming evident that we needed a storage unit. We were hoping to avoid this, but there was no way. There was a door next to our front door that had a "Rent Me" sign on it. We had all assumed that it was another apartment. One of the ladies tried to open the door and found it unlocked. It was a storage unit and it was only about two feet away from our front door! I called the apartment manager and it was available for only $20 per month! Once we had this, the only problem left was our lawn mower and weed eater. It was against the rules to store them anywhere on the property (because of the gasoline). One of the ladies from church called her hubby and he said they would make room in their garage to store them until we find a home. Once again, God was looking out for us. We are very appreciative for our new congregation and how willing they are to be of service.
The one sad thing that has happened is that our lovebird, Lucky, died on Sunday. She was like a third child to us. Whenever we were home, she was on our shoulder. She was cuddly and very friendly. She would even sleep on my neck at night sometimes. She was acting very sick on Thursday morning, but seemed to get better towards the weekend. Then Sunday, she passed away. We are still very sad about this loss. I know not everyone understands the connection to a pet like this, but like I said, she was my third "child" and I am feeling the loss very deeply.
Well, I apologize for the long post, but I am very happy to be back on here! I hope all of you are doing well.
LT: I was glad to see you are back! I was wondering how you were doing.
BT: Your comment about the cabbage and breaking wind made me laugh. You and my hubby have much in common!
KayKay: I'm back, but I'm glad to see you didn't have to talk to yourself the whole time!
And about the humidity...now doj, you lived in Fort Worth I know....was the humidity any worse than that?
Well, soo good to hear from you, girl! Glad you guys are getting settled! I know it's a big job, but hope to hear from you again soon!
When I was living in Fort Worth, I mainly remember it just being too hot. I don't remember noticing humidity until after I lived in Utah and visited other places. I think I was too young and had always lived in humid climates, so I didn't know the difference. Once I got to Utah and lived in the dry heat, then went to Michigan or Texas to visit, that's when I really knew what humidity was.
It was bad here for a couple of days, but yesterday and today have been really nice outside. Probably in the upper 70's to lower 80's, minor humidity and lots of beeze. I think the breeze helps a lot. I just got back from taking the kids to the pool for the first time. Now I'm exhausted!
Oh the state road we live on is expected to be converted to a 4-lane, they have three routes, guess what?? one rt takes it thru our house! sigh..
Good morning, everybody!
Doji- how's the unpacking process going? I see your character looks like she's busy "moving in."
I'm organizing closets this morning. Almost everything else is done. We didn't unpack everything since we will be moving into a house in a couple of months. There was no sense in hauling out all of the "extras" just to repack them again in a few weeks. So this morning, closets and putting away laundry. Once I get that accomplished, I'm pretty much settled in.
Wow, that's fast. So you were able to find an apartment that didn't make you sign a year long lease?
Yes, thankfully! We signed a 3-month lease. We went looking at houses today and are leaning toward one already. It looks nicer in person than it did on-line, so we were pleasantly surprised about it. Then we looked at others that looked much worse than they did on-line. Oh,well. I love looking at houses...I think I would love to be a realtor if I didn't have to rely on commission.
morning all. I have too much to do today to give thought to Friday the 13th! We got a bit of sprinkles around here yesterday, got me all excited thinking we were getting rain. sigh.
wasn't it terrible about those poor boy scouts in Iowa? I hate watching the news but could not escape this as my dh and son were discussing it.
hope all have a wonderful day today....
