Why is evolution being taught as fact when it's not?

Well the simplest answer is that there is a lot of evidence for it and more comes out supporting it all the time. And btw it's not taught as fact only as a scientific theory.

Yea, most of my teachers have emphasized that evolution has not been proven and it is only a theory. Modern science, however, relies on evolution to explain many things. Without the theory of evolution science would never of been able to advance to where it is now. Taking away the theory of evolution from biology is like taking away the laws of motion from physics. It would destroy the field unless a better theory was proposed.

Nope not fact and no one from the science community would ever call it fact.

They can always transfer it over to the science forum where it will rest beside many other threads with the exact same topic. The problem Rising Suns is that the question itself is largely a complex question fallacy insofar as it presupposes a sharp contrast between fact and something else (theory?). But it's a huge topic, and one has really to discuss a theory in relation to the evidence that confirms or denies it. The vast majority of Scientists working in the relevant area believe there is evidence supporting evolution. It is fair to question and debate that evidence, but to insist that people teach the theory without discussing the facts which appear to confirm it is rather disingenuous.

I would point out that, depending on where one draws the, IMHO entirely arbitrary, line between "fact" and "theory", the same claim could be made about gravity, relativity, or Newton's Laws of Motion. Indeed, we know of exceptions to the Laws of Motion, and we teach them anyway!

"Evolution" is a fact. Lifeforms change over time.

"The Theory of Evolution" is a scientific theory, trying to explain, why, when and how lifeforms change, and how that could explain life on earth as we see it now.

Ha Ha, very funny!

Problem with this "proven fact" is only: it is neither proven, nor a fact.

Mm, the proven fact I believe is that humans have gotten taller over the last few centuries, and I don't know how long that trend extends. The notion that this has been going on throughout human history doesn't seem clear to me, but notice how Gerry has slipped in an argument for the young earth theory. Assuming the general principle is in operation, Adam&Eve could only be that tall if the earth was created relatively recently; otherwise they would have to hve been amoebas.
