Are there christians who view these verses as a prophecy for today's Iraq? Babylon the great=Iraq?

Revelation 18:1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons,a haunt for every unclean spirit,a haunt for every unclean bird,a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast. 3 For all nations have drunkthe wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living. 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; 5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds;mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. 7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says,I sit as a queen,I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see. 8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire;for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.

I don't think that verse is talking about a specific city or Iraq. Rather, I think it is talking about all enemies of God in general, that is those who persecute the people of God. Babylon is used as a metaphor because its prominince in the Old Testament would ensure that the author's meaning was understood by his audience.

Yes there is a similar prophecy about Babylon in the OT Jeremiah. The expressions that are told in Jeremiah 50 and 51 alone makes me think that they are about today's Iraq too..Jeremiah 50:2 Declare among the nations and proclaim, set up a banner and proclaim, conceal it not, and say:Babylon is taken...Jeremiah 50:3 For out of the north a nation has come up against her, which shall make her land a desolation, and none shall dwell in it; both man and beast shall flee away.Jeremiah 50:41 Behold, a people comes from the north;a mighty nation and many kingsare stirring from the farthest parts of the earth. 42 They lay hold of bow and spear;they are cruel and have no mercy. The sound of them is like the roaring of the sea;they ride on horses, arrayed as a man for battleagainst you, O daughter of Babylon! 43 The king of Babylon heard the report of them, and his hands fell helpless;anguish seized him, pain as of a woman in labor...46 At the sound of the capture of Babylon the earth shall tremble, and her cry shall be heard among the nationsJeremiah 51:7 Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord's hand, making all the earth drunken;the nations drank of her wine;therefore the nations went mad.(Is this wine oil?)

My observations...

1-It says in Jeremiah that a nation from the north, from the farthest parts of the earth will come to Babylon the great and invade it..

A nation-known by all of us has come from the farthest parts of the earth and invade Iraq recently.

2-and talks about "the wine of Babylon" as the reason of the conflict, the nations drank of her wine;therefore the nations went mad ...

That is a perfect metaphor for oil.

3-in Rev. it calls Beast the one which attacks Babylon. It has 7 heads that are 7 kingdoms and the beats's itself is the eighth kingdom...

That so much sounds like G-8 countries.America is the beast's itself and the other 7 countries of G-8 are the 7 heads of the beast.
