Do you think you make enough effort to look attractive? I'm just wondering. I know a lot of people don't, and then they wonder why they're single

Depends on the day! And I don't look good for others... I like to dress nice and put make up on because it makes ME feel better and more confident, not so someone will notice me.
I used to date pretty guys... guys who tried a little too hard, I think. Obviously that never worked for me, so I have started to realize, even if he isn't the cutest guy, he can be the sweetest, and treat you the best. And I think the more you get to know someone, the more physically attracted you can become to them, even if you don't think they are smokin' hot!

I do try to an extent. It can be difficult when your job requires you to get down and dirty with the animals in scrubs. I can't say I put a whole lot into my appearance, but at the same time, I want a relationship based on more than that. If that makes me be single longer until I can find someone who can see me as beautiful inside and out, even when I'm a mess from work, then so be it, because I know there are those people out there.

I used to dress like a pretty boy in my teens. Now I try to dress in a manner where if I have to change a flat tire or something, I won't feel all wussy cuz my name brand clothes are dirty
Like you, I don't do it to attract others, I do it for mahself. I dress very casual both at work and home. Cargo pants and a button up shirt at work, jeans or shorts and a polo after work. But I do make an effort to look clean cut and presentable. Nails trimmed. Hair is cut. Goatee trimmed. (Although I shaved it so I'm back to looking like I'm 18) I wear matching clothes. These things are important
I think people make the assumption that just because you caught their eye, that makes you a superficial person. I don't think that's necessarily the case. Maybe, it's that extra little bit of effort that you put in one day that pushes them over the fence to say "Okay, I HAVE to go and try and talk to him/her." Just because you find somebody who TRIES attractive doesn't mean that you can't appreciate her if she doesn't try so hard one day. I dunno, I think people are too hard on folks who want somebody who tries to keep up their appearance.

I don't have a problem with the guy wanting to me look nice, assuming he appreciates me just as much when I don't try so hard. My biggest concern would be "what about when I'm 80 and wrinkley... I don't want to put on 5000 facial creams a day to keep him happy"

Depends on the day and where I am going and how I feel. Some days I can't lift my arms to brush my hair. On those days I could careless how I look.
Since I have been at this job I do "try" harder to look decent.
I heard a pastor say one time about women and makeup "every old barn can use a little paint". Well, this old barn that is falling apart needs a lot of paint.

That's terrible. I hate guys that push the makeup scene.
Call me old fashioned, but I like my barns to show their natural built beauty.

I don't put on my 5000 facial creams for a man, I do it for me!!
I learned years ago, not to grow my hair for a man, or dress for a man, or anything like that, because it's not worth it. I dress nicely (when I go somewhere) for me, because when I look good, I feel good. If someone of the opposite sex notices, well, all the better!! (but, that hasn't happened yet!!
)

I do make an effort to look nice. I feel so much more confident when I can look in the mirror before I go out and be like "man I look really hot tonight." That totally sounds superficial but I'm really not.I wear heels pretty much all the time except for when I'm at work . I'm short so those couple of inches help out a lot. I do like for my hair to look good but I'm awful about being patient when trying to fix my hair so I go for the simple cute 5-10 minute styling hairstyles. My clothes are usually casual unless I'm going out on the town with some girlfriends and thats about the only time that I wear makeup usually .So yea i make a effort but not to the extreme. I appreciate a guy that makes an effort but I wouldn't date a pretty boy. I like a guy who takes the time to look nice but still has the rough around the edges kinda look.
