• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Im a girl, three months to 17 and Im only 5'2- 5'2 1/2 andI haven't grown at all since I was 12 (and since early 12). Therefore I am still the height of a 12 year old.
I guess its normall for some girls to be that height but its weird, cause I was a normal height all through elementary school and there were a lot of kids shorter than me and then all of a sudden I was super short compared to everyone else. The girls that were way shorter than me are all the same height now.
I had a huge growth spurt when I was 11 and I remember my friend who was a year older being surprised that I had gotten almost as tall as her and then she continued growing all through her teens and I'm way shorter.
I was slightly anorexic when I was 15 and I just ate a little more than one meal a day but I don't think that would stunt my growth?
My mom is 5'0 and my sis is 5'1 but my dad is 5'11 and the female verison of that height is 5'7. But the point is that I stopped growing so early. Is that normal?

It's your genes. I am in the exact same position as you are--and I'm even older than you are! XD I'm 5'2", and have been for a LONGGGG time... and thanks to being Asian, I not only am as tall as a 12 year old, I look like one in facial features. ;) Anyone over the age of 14 typically is taller than me, girls and guys. >_>

My mother is 4'9" and my dad is 6'0". I should be taller as well!... but, I took more after my mother, I suppose. I doubt your brief stint of anorexia affected your growth, our situations are almost identical and I have never had any eating disorders. I also drink a ton of milk, so in theory I shouldn't remain this small! I eat breakfast, exercise, whatever. I'm a relatively healthy person.

I don't know necessarily if this sort of thing is normal, but I don't think it's abnormal, either. It's just weird genetics. I wouldn't worry about it. :)

You basically took after your mom--- you get half your genes from your Dad and half your genes from your Mom, so what probably happened is that you got a shorter gene(s) (height is probably effected by more than one gene) from your Mom and a shorter gene(s) from your Dad (your Dad, even though he is tall can carry short height genes).

If it makes you feel better, by the time I was in 4th grade I was already 5'6"--- my Mom is 5'8" and my Dad is around 6'0". I'm now 6'0", which is probably caused by me getting taller height genes from both of my parents (I have very tall relatives). But it's really a pain--- most guys don't want a tall girlfriend, I have HORRIBLE joint problems from growing too fast, and finding pants that are long enough and fit properly is next to impossible for me.

My best friend is 5'2" and I just adore her :) Don't let something like your height bother you--- let your personality shin through ^_^

Thanks for your posts everyone. Sounds like I have bad genes. Lol, you're right jelly_bean, we have to look up at peoples faces from an angle that makes them look strange and distorted. Thats whats really annoying, its like being a little kid and everyone is a giant, and theres trees all around you. Its bad in high school. I don't want to be way taller than my mom and sis but I wish everyone could be the same height. Its not horrible though, sometimes I feel like its more sensible to be short my riding instructor said I had good proportions for riding a horse, and also it kinda suits me cause I never wanted to grow up. It sounds like its not fun getting really tall either though, angeldove. And you're right too RyanLeeParis. But I still wish I could live among hobbits!

I was thinking, I could go to the doctor, but when I go to the clinic I always get this doctor thats about three inches shorter than me, so I guess I can't go complain to her that im too short lol =P

you don't have 'bad genes' ,you're in the smaller percentile of us and enjoy the benefits. little sports cars suit me,i can still ride a pony, clothing styles are really cute,i don't take up much space :) i am compact and enjoy my size because being tiny can be fun. ;) did i always feel this way? no. all my girlfriends are way tall..it's okay though becuz they pamper me,a bit spoiled i am :)

i'm not even 5'0 but i say i am becuz saying 4'11 makes people laugh.

When I was 15, I struggled with an ED. My mom believes this stunted my growth. When I was 14, I put on a little bit of weight, and this really bothered me.....thus leading me to develop an ED.

What I realize now is that it is normal for females around puberty to gain some weight because this prepares their bodies to physically grow. It is completely fine to gain some weight around puberty - in some individuals, things even out because they grow taller.

I am 5'1" now and have been the same height since I was about 14. It doesn't bother me, though because I have learned to accept it. :)
