Regarding N.T. Prophets.

How far does one deem it necessary to go in order to try and Prove or Disprove that Prophets exist today,? And if so, for what purpose? In the end one helps defend while the other helps destroy the word of God!

I take it that those who claim that they can Disprove this claim of theirs are prophets themselves? But what kind of prophets? Only a prophet assigned as one by God can walk upon the word and mouth of God without himself getting burned up by it, because the prophet is the one who has been taken and personally shown and taught by God Himself (no less) to ALWAYS take his shoes off and bow when walking on Holy Ground! And that HOLY GROUND is the all the land between Genesis and Revelations!

There is no one in the body today that treats the word of God as the prophet does! THAT is his ministry! God requires and expects him to obey His voice, and he expects (with the same reverant attitude) others to obey and follow God?s voice as well! John 10:27

So? where did the ?lie? proclaiming that Prophets are no longer with us begin? It has no Scriptural backup! Nowhere does the Bible say that the ministry of a Prophet; that God gave in order to help perfect the church, is done. Nowhere!

Eph 4:
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, PROPHETS; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1 Cor 12:
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily PROPHETS, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? are all PROPHETS? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

I believe that we can all agree that the ministry of ?Apostle? has been and is being fulfilled today by the ?12 Apostles? who established ?The Church? through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and by gave us the finished word and council of God to keep! Jude 3 (I myself was brought to Christ and ?saved? through God revealing His Son to me in the Gospel of Matthew!)

Let us examine the Prophets?

#1. The Old Testament Prophets!

A - They had the CONVICTION OF SIN, OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND OF THE JUDGEMENT OF GOD IN THEIR HEARTS! In the O T, in order to be a Prophet of God? you first had to be brought near to God in order to receive a direct word from Him that gave you direct evidence of perfectly knowing Gods will (thus Gods word) in that given area. God being Holy you can try and imagine the fear of them being brought near to Him. To touch Him (without being properly prepared) was to die!

B They had the CLARITY/PURITY OF HEART TO HEAR AND SEE GOD! It was by this Vision of His Holiness that gave the man that hot and holy fire? in his innards, to make him willfully want to go and tell the others. (This was sweet to his soul!)

C They had theCOURAGE OF THEIR CONVICTIONS TO SPEAK THE WORD THEY WERE GIVEN ON GODS BEHALF! They had to go before those who God sent them to and Preach that Prophesy all that God gave them to say, knowing that this will cause trouble for them because mens hearts are so resistant and hateful towards the Truth! (This was bitter to his spirit!)

#2. The New Testament Prophets!

A Ditto!
B Ditto!
C Ditto!

The Primary differences between those whom God made prophets in the O.T. verses those he makes prophets in the N.T. is...

1. the O.T. was still being written, and much of it written by those same prophets of old, while ALL of the N.T. has already been written By Jesus and His Apostles.

2. the O.T. prophets were given and spoke New words and New revelations concerning Gods will, while the N.T. prophets can only REPEAT the words that God gives them, words that are already established in the Scriptures! (This is how to Test any and all prophets. With the Scriptures!)

3. the O.T. prophet had the word alive as a HOLY FIRE in his heart, and the N.T. prophet has and speaks from the same fire and life in his heart (John 3:11), which some consider to be arrogance because of the way his message comes across: boldly, matter-of-factly, Love and take it or Hate and leave it. When all is said and done, he is just a relay man on earth for his Boss in heaven! No more, no less.

4. the O.T. prophet was required to practice for himself (not just go and preach) the revelation of God to others, ditto the N.T. prophet.

5. the O.T. prophet had a life-altering Vision of God in His Holiness, and as such brings his vision with him to share with others, ditto the N.T. prophet!

6. the O.T. prophets could never compromise what they had been given. They were friends only with those who were like-minded, those who also Loved and sought to obey the Truth above all else, ditto the N.T. prophet once his N.T. friends check out (Unbiasedly) his words with the word of God for verification!

There are MANY SCRIPTURAL PROOF?S that the N.T. prophet?s that God gave to the church are still with us today and will remain with us right up to the Lord?s second coming!

In order to have False prophets and false teachers you have to have true prophets and true teachers running around in the church today as well! And we do!

Also the gift of prophesy is mentioned several times by Paul as the Highest gift we should all covet after.

The gift of prophesy is no more than one, Having received the revelation within of Gods Holy word and speaking that word; WITHOUT HAVING TO REFER TO ANYTHING BEFOREHAND, NOT EVEN THE BIBLE, in the power of the Spirit because you KNOW it is True and Of God!

(Afterwards, you can go and check in the Bible to see whether or not the prophet speaks the truth or a lie!) God knows how to preserve His word BOTH on the Outside AND on the Inside! So check the prophets insides with the outside! :)

Such a Holy Word needs no interpretation and speaks for itself! The prophet (both then and now) is merely God?s mouth-piece speaking out the Vision he received of the Holiness of God!

Without a vision the people perish! Proverbs 29:18

We see what this vision means here...

1 Sam 3:1 And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

THE WORD OF GOD was precious in those days because it was Scarce! There were few and no prophets, no one around to give an open vision of Gods word in the days of Samuels childhood, just as there will be few prophets left in the days when the antichrist appears and his Great Tribulation and persecution of the church begins.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.

This refers to the Lords Withholding the prophets from speaking forth, and of closing (withdrawing) the vision of the Lords word (which gave Life) to the people!

And before anyone thinks that because this is the New Testament and we all have the Spirit, therefore we each have it all, let me remind you again...

Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? God gave to the church SOME to be this and that...

The answer is a resounding, NO, we do not have and know it all! We NEED our brothers and sisters and their gifts and ministries to help perfect us in the Lord!

Not everyone can be a teacher! Not everyone can prophesy! Not everyone can be a pastor!

The gifts are as Diversified and as Necessary as are every member of the body of Christ!

ONLY JESUS HAD ALL THE GIFTS AND ALL THE MINISTRIES!!! IN HIM WAS THE ABSOLUTE FULNESS OF THE SPIRIT! HE LACKED NOTHING!

We, on the otherhand, NEED each other! We NEED EVERYONE and their gift or ministry in order for us to be Perfected in Christ...

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

SO STOP THROWING OUT THE PROPHETS!
THE APOSTLES ARE HERE WITH US DAILY IN THE CHURCH THEY HELPED BUILD THROUGH GIVING US THE NEW TESTAMENT WORD OF GOD!
THEY?RE ALL STILL HERE (Remember, I was Saved by hearing The Apostle Matthew still speaking today!) ALONG WITH THE EVANGELISTS, TEACHERS AND PASTORS!
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT THROW OUT THE PROPHETS!
IF YOU DO *YOU* WILL *NEVER* BE PERFECTED!

That is not a threat, but a revealed truth, an absolute gaurantee, based soley on the unchanging word of God! Something that we can ALL (Because it was written and is again spoken and affirmed!) Bank On!

With you in the Lords service,

Biff

Biff I am not here to try to change your mind, but to challenge it. You say these offices, apostles and prophets are still here with us today. That is not possible. These people may call themselves apostles and prophets, no doubt they do. But the reason they are not is because the apostles and prophets had a specific task and that task has been fulfilled. The Lord used the apostles and prophets to make up the foundation of the church, Jesus Christ being the cornerstone Eph.2:20. The foundation is complete, the office of apostle and prophet is closed.

Over the years, I've ran across people who have claimed to be prophets and have even prophesied the end of the world etc.
When I was young in the Lord I’ve had one who claimed to be a prophet tell me that God had spoken to him regarding my grandmother who was is sick in the hospital. He told me that she
would be in the hospital a week and then be back home. The next day she died.
I heard another man who claimed to be a prophet tell us that the church in Southern Africa was
raising the dead. At that time, I had a missionary friend in Southern Africa and he heard that they
were raising the dead in America.
Prophets, since the time of Jesus, have came and gone and so have their prophecies. We see
people like William Miller who prophesied that Christ would come back in 1844 (he took Daniel’s 8:14 to refer to the end of time) and when it didn’t happen he changed it and when that didn’t happen, you had the birth of a teaching that later became a thread for a church known as the Seventh Day Adventists. Ellen G. White, wife of James White (wrote for the Church of God, 7th Day) broke off from the Church of God, 7th Day started writing volumes of books and had a great following. Today, the Adventists have a radio program called “The Voice of Prophecy.” Over the years they have predicted the return of Christ many times and failed.
And then you have Charles Russell who was a Presbyterian at the time, left the Presbyterian church, joined the Seventh Day Adventists, fell out with them over the doctrine of “atonement” and in or around 1879 published his Zion’s Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence. (The Parousia)

Then you have the prophet, “Joe.” He had many visions and dreams in his early teen years. He lived in New York at the time and drew quite a following. He believed that you could become God
someday if you were good enough. His little group started a church known as the Mormon Church. They have grown and grown and still are growing. I studied for two months with a 4th generation Mormon. They do believe that God was a man at one time. One of his questions to me was “my grandfather had three wives, do you think anything’s wrong with that?” I told him I have one wife (for 38 years) and can’t imagine how anyone could keep up with three!

All of your so called prophets are premillennial in their eschatology. I will list some prophet/premillenial quotes over time. If you would like to see some earlier prophets/prophecies, I found an interesting web page at:
http://www.geocities.com/athens/acropolis/5766/misprophecy.html

I can understand why you asked the question about prophets today in the church. It is (and has been) a very popular teaching. We are told by the Lord that in earlier times He spoke in many and various ways, but in these last days, we are to hear His Son. (Jesus). (Heb 1:1,2)

Here are some interesting quotes from our premillenial friends:

Quote from premillennialist organization from year 1886 “the outward evidences are that the marshalling of the hosts for the battle of the great day of God Almighty is in progress while the skirmishing is commencing.” Watchtower Reprints, I, Jan. 1866, page 817

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1904, “according to our expectations the stress of the great time of trouble will be upon us soon, somewhere between 1910 and 1912 ---culminating…October, 1914.” C.T. Russell, THE NEW CREATION, page 579

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1914, “there is absolutely no ground for Bible students to question that the summation of this Gospel age is now even at the door, and that it will end as the scriptures foretold, in a great time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation.” Watchtower Reprint, VI, May 1, 1914, page 5450

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1915, “the Battle of Armageddon, to which this war is leading, will be a great contest between right and wrong, and will signify the complete and everlasting overthrow of the wrong and the permanent establishment of Messiah’s righteous kingdom for the blessing of the world. . .” Watchtower Reprints, VI, April 1, 1915, page 5659

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1918, “Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particulary those named by the Apostle in Hebrews 11, to the condition of human perfection.” MILLIONS LIVING WILL NEVER DIE, page 89

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1918 “the present war I Europe is the beginning of the Armageddon of the Scriptures.” C.T. Russell. PASTOR RUSSELL’S SERMONS, page 676

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1920, “…the old order of things, the old world, is ending and is therefore passing away. . . 1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies…” GOLDEN AGE OF THE KINGDOM, 1920.

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1922, “the date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated by the scriptures than 1914.” WATCHTOWER, 9/1/22, page 262

Quote from premillennialist organization, YEAR 1925, “it is expected that Satan will try to inject into the minds of the consecrated the thought that 1925 should see an end to the work.”
WATCHTOWER, 9/1/25

Quote from premillennialist organization, year 1931, “His day of vengeance is here, and Armageddon is at hand and certain fall upon Christendom, and that within an early date. Jehovah’s judgment is upon Christ and must be shortly executed.” J. F. Rutherford, VINDICATION, I., page 147

Quote from premillennialist organization, YEAR 1939, “. . .at the time for the battle of the great day of God Almighty is ver near. . .” “. . .the disaster of Armagedoon is just ahead.” J.F. Rutherford,
SALVATION, pages 310, 361

Quote from premillennial news article, “Not in the lifetime of most men has there been so much grave and deep apprehension; never has the future seemed so incalculable as the present time. The domestic economic situation is in chaos. Our dollar is weak throughout the world. The political cauldron seethes and bubbles with uncertainty. Russia hangs, as usual, like a cloud, dark and silent, upon the horizon. It is a solemn moment. Of our troubles, no man can see the end. Year 1990 NO!, 1980 NO!………Harper’s Weekly, October, 1857!!!

Hal Lindsey, Late Great Planet Earth, 1971 copy, Lakeland publication, London, pages 53,54
Lindsey was very sure that in 1981 the tribulation would begin – nuclear wars, famines, droughts, pollution on a worldwide scale, genocide, incredible heat waves, worldwide epidemics of horrible ulcers, earthquakes of greater than continental dimensions; these and other horrors are just up
ahead for the earth.

Premillenialists teach that the Levitical priesthood is going to be restored in the millennium. Take a look at Charles L. Fein berg – he assures us that the Levitical priesthood is coming back, invested in the Zadokites. He gets this from Ezek 44:15-27. John Walvoord in his “The Millenniald Kingdom”, pages 310-315, is very plain in telling us that the Aaronic priesthood is coming back.

Arno C. Gaebelein, a premillennialist, wrote “THE PROPHET EZEKIEL, pages 270-273, 317ff, plainly tells us: “The earthly priesthood as it once was is re-established and vested in the sons of Zdok. . . all this will be fulfilled and done when this new and true worship is institued in the coming age. . . when the Lord has restored Israel to this great place of worship stands, priestly ministrations will be resumed.”

Charles Ryrie, pages 127-130, defends the dispensational premillennial view that sacrifices for sin are coming back. The Scofield Bible, page 890, maintains these bloody sacrifices are coming back. Arno Gaebelein, pages 307-313 insists we accept the sacrifices literally or do “violence to the Word of God.”

Premillennialists believe that circumcision will be restored as essential to communion with God. They get this from Ezek 44:6,7 & 9. Hal Lindsey’s LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH, page 177, speaks of these fulfillments and that even people will be excluded from communion with God at His sanctuary.(He uses Zech 14:21)

John Walvoord, THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM, pages 208-220, assures us that the “new covenant” is only for Israel and relates to the Millennium and not to this age. By the way, Lindsey's was a student of John Walvoord at Dallas Theological Seminary.

_____________________________________________________

The word “millennium” comes from two Latin words, which means “a thousand years.” Revelation 20:3-5 mentions a thousand years in which the Devil is completely bound and the saints reign with Christ. How are these thousand years related to the 2nd coming of Christ? The “premillennialist” thinks the 2nd coming is to take place before(pre) the thousand years, while the “postmillennialist” thinks the 2nd coming occurs after(post) the thousand years. The “amillennialist” holds the 2nd coming has nothing to do with the thousand years.

___________________________________________________--

The premillennialist are made up of many groups and names. Today, the brand of premillennialism that is popular is “dispensational” premillennialism. It is popularized by Hal Lindsey’s “LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH” and “THERE IS A NEW WORLD COMING.” John Walvoords “MILLENNIAL KINGDOM” is a definite work presenting dispensational viewpoints. Under the “umbrella” of premillennialism are groups like the Jehovah Witnesses, Pentecostals, most Baptists, 99% of Sabbath-keepers like the Seventh-Day Adventists, Davidians (like David Karesh), their names are legion. Most started with just one prophet!

To Sharptee,

>>>The foundation is complete, the office of apostle and prophet is closed.
<<<

The *foundation* has always been complete ever since Jesus (in His offices of Lord, Savior, Prophet, Priest, Pastor, Teacher and Evangelist) died, rose and sent the Holy Spirit!!

The *office* of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher are open and in operation today.

I was saved through hearing the words of an apostle, *Matthew*.

Spiritually speaking, the apostles are every bit as much alive today as they were then. and so too are the spirits of the prophets and everyone else!

The Burden of proof is *Yours* to PROVE to me and to everyone else by the word of God where He says that some or all of these "offices" are no longer needed and in operation today?

THERE ARE NO MORE *NEW* PROPHECIES! WE HAVE THE FINISHED WORD OF GOD IN OUR HANDS! HE'S DONE TALKING!

If I come to you prophesying it's Black, and the Bible says it's White, then I am a false prophet!

BUT, if it's Black and the Bible says it's Black, then I am speaking the Truth, whether I speak it in season (by the Spirit) or out of season (on my own)!!

THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH!!!

A N.T. prophet is merely one who speaks forth the word of God in the power of the Spirit!
It has to be spoken through the Spirit's annointing and leading if it is going to CONVICT the hearers!

*Prophesy* usually has nothing to do with *the future* at all, and everything to do with *exposing ones sin*.

*Exposing ones sin* is the primary function behind the ministry of a prophet!

That's the ministry of a prophet: Someone who, in the power of the Spirit, exposes ones sin and makes them aware that *God* sees it and expects them to acknowledge it as well and repent... AND ALL OF IT IS ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF GOD!

If it isn't then THROW IT ALL OUT!
If it is then take off your shoes and bow because that *Voice* is coming from Holy Ground!

Those who "prophesy" do just that, in the spirit of a prophet.

Let one or two prophesy, and the rest judge their words by the word of God!

Biff, Ok you were saved by someone who you say is an apostle. Thats fine if such a person wants to say they are an apostle. The fact is, as the saying goes "saying so doesn't make it so". I could tell you I was an apostle! Biff, I am sincerely not trying to put a "wet blanket" on any of your experiences, but it would do you some good to compare your experience with the Gospel. During the time of N.T. Apostles there were many false Apostles trying to fleece the unwary. "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds" (II Cor.11:13-15).

You say the function of this prophet is to expose sin. Thats the function of the Bible. The Word of God exposes sin. I go to work and witness to a fellow worker and quote some verses, the Word of God does exactly what it claims in Heb.4:12, it exposes sin. I'm telling you Biff, your just going to go through life being confused if you don't get the issue of revelation settled. God wrote the scripture using the Apostles and Prophets. The Lord Jesus foretold this writting of the New Testament would come to pass in John 16:12,13. And the New Testament began to be written after the Day of Pentecost. If you do not get this matter settled you will be easily led astray. The Apostle John warned his readers in IJohn2:27 "And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taugt you, you abide in Him".
