Jeremiah Wright stands for justice despite not being palatable to scaredy cat white folks. Ratzinger stands for power, his own in particular. The comparison of villifying Obama for going to Wright's church versus those who go to RCC churches is apt and exact. The right wing does not like it because it shows their attacks on Obama for going to Wright's church as the guilt by association smear it was meant to be. It places it in the correct perspective and it blows up in their faces. The Huff Post blogger who wrote it was dead on. The Rightys don't like it because somebody exposed the game they were playing.

Fine with me if the Democratic Party compares Wright to the Pope. Please encourage your fellow Democrats to make it a major part of your campaign this fall. Run ads telling everyone how Obama going to hear Jeremiah Wright is no different than Catholics going to Mass.

Big deal. As I recall a couple of members of the White Rose had been in the Hitler Youth. If that level of guilt by association is valid then no one comes out clean.

I don't believe Chris Kelly and the Huffington Post are trying to make a serious comparision. Kelly's intent is to turn it all into a joke. Hahaha....Hitler Youth...Benedict...Catholics...just like Wright...hahahaha....

The subtext is "ignore the seriousness of what Jeremiah Wright preaches". Let's all just laugh at it No big deal (but the teachings of Obama's church is a big deal and the left knows it).

The only people who think that Wright's sermons are important are Republicans who know that they will lose this election handily and need a diversion from their candidate.

This isn't from the Obama campaign. Don't make things up. You are smarter then that.

I am Catholic and I don't care. I don't like so pope either so...

You are Buddhist...as is your icon and your attitude.
Please do not claim to be Catholic who does not like the Pope. By your own admission to not liking him, you are not Catholic.

God Bless.

Big deal. As I recall a couple of members of the White Rose had been in the Hitler Youth. If that level of guilt by association is valid then no one comes out clean.

Ok, dear ppl..who here knows what Hitler Youth was?

Ok, let me fill you all in...
Hitler Youth was not a choice. It was like being drafted. And since at the time of its inception, the youth did not understand or know any better than to be forced into joining.

The Pope however; altho forced into being in the group, found a way to remove himself by going to seminary to avoid being in the group.

Did he participate? No.
He was forced to join, however; he found a way to avoid it and be removed.

So, the facts ppl, make all the difference.

Also as a Catholic, I am rather disgruntled that the Pope could be compared to anyone who preaches bigotry. The Pope, as leader of the Ancient Catholic Church upholds the respect for all humanity.

For as scripture tells us we are no longer 'Jew or Gentile, freedman or slave...but we are ONE in Christ.'

Dont knock my Church leader.

Considering that the majority of the population is white, this will be a problem.

Prejudice isnt dead, so long as it is ok to knock down someone in the majority...

A president should be unbiased to all ppl.
His wife certainly isnt, either.

Dubya isn't unbiased to all people. In the wake of 9/11, he tried to claim that those who don't agree with his policies are "with the enemy".

There's no proof that Obama's a racist at all. So we're left in the difficult position of proving a negative.

If people don't think Wright's sermons are important, why did they go back week after week to hear them?

Ringo meant important in the political sense. They are spiritually significant, but are utterly unremarkable when it comes to any actual impact on the political scene. All of this is being pushed for the sole purpose of smear campaigning, nothing more. The worst part is that you know this, and still don't care. Is smear campaigning somehow, in your mind, legitimate?

I'm sorry to inform you that Wright's sermons , as we have seen and heard, are quite political at times

I think that was the point Keith99 was making. The "White Rose" was a resistence group. Some of its members were in the Hitler Youth. What German National Socialists did was fold everything they could into the state, they put all youth groups under the thumb of if not part of the Hitler Youth.

To the contrary. TUCC and the Nation of Islam are political heavyweights in the Illinois legislative district which sent Barack Obama to the statehouse. If Farrakhan and Wright oppose a local candidate, it is unlikely they could win. Obama's church is also involved with the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N'COBRA). Jeremiah Wright spoke at the N'COBRA conference in Philly last June. N'COBRA works closely with John Conyers (D-MI) in pushing Conyer's bill H.R. 40 which would began the process for reparations for slavery.

Excuse me, what is a Buddist attitude? I am a Catholic, I just change my faith icon every week.

I don't like the Pope, I also know many other Catholics that don't like him. I liked JP II, not this guy.

So was my dinner discussion with my father last night. That doesn't mean it had a significant impact on the national political scene.

Then that brings us back to my question:

If people don't think Wright's sermons are important, why did they go back week after week to hear them?

Soundds like you're saying that the Catholic Church is the Great harlot in Revelation

Mach Zero are you an Intuitor on your Meyer-Briggs typology? I am. The thing about is intuitors are often right for reasons imperceptible to Sensors, their opposite, but when we're wrong we're really, really wrong.

I believe Revelation was a metaphor for the Roman Empire and don't see the Scarlet harlot of Babylon as a metaphor to anyone or any institution of these days. The Catholic Church showed real promise during the Vatican II-Pope John XXIII days but since has fallen into a retrograde institution, some like Archbishop Oscar Romero being an exception. That's all. Ratzinger is the worst Pope since, IMO, but hardly a mythological character, mostly a bureaucrat.
