Hello does anyone know of any highly credible source(s) for an account on the lives of SS. Sergius and Bacchus? I am curious about their life, but I want to make sure I read it from a trustworthy source, could someone recommend one?

I also heard there was a St. Bridget of Ireland, is she recognized by the Orthodox Church? If so, I would like to find a credible source(s) for her life as well.

I am also curious in obtaining (once again a credible) an accurate account on the lives of SS. Symeon of Emesa and John.

I would be very interested in reading about these saints, but I want the information to be accurate. So please if anyone knows of any place where I can find more information and the source is credible, could you please point it out to me?

Thank you!

PS
I'd prefer internet sites, or free sources.

PPS
Credible as in, an objective source, highly unlikely to be biased.

EDIT: Thanks
All4Christ for helping me out with the title.

EDIT: Just read my embarrassing spelling mistake in the title...it should read obtain, maybe a mod could fix it?
I'll have to look for it - but one of the Orthodox monestaries in the area has many icons written of Western Orthodox saints. St Brigit of Ireland was one of them. She has an interesting story - though a credible source will have to be given from someone else...as I don't know if my sources are credible or not (save for the monastery).

Good luck on your search for information - I look forward to the answers as well!

Click on edit for your post - and go to advanced. You should be able to change it there. I once made a VERY embarrassing mistake in the topic subject - and thankfully was able to change it quickly.

Interesting account of St. Bridget of Kildare, of part on Sainthood is certainly worth looking at in my opinion.

St. Brigit’s Ordination

I think it is a fantastic legend :) In the Orthodox Church though we would not have the kind of legalistic notion that because someone made a mistake and read the wrong prayers, she was consecrated a bishop.

So you are wondering if they were attracted to each other in a sexual way. Why? Many saints struggle with various passions. Why do you need to know this particular fact about them?

The sad state of Western life makes little room for deep, platonic love between people outside of marriage. Men in particular rarely show affection in body language or spoken language to each other unless they are blood relatives. Expressions of love outside of the "norm" are labeled "gay" as in "That is so gay!"

So this mindset is turned on people in the Scriptures and Tradition who loved each other deeply. The warped Western mentality places sacred platonic friendship in the category of eroticism because no other place exists. Does that necessarily make them attracted to each other on a sexual level? No of course not!

The ancient rite of adelphopoesis or brother (sister) making is not gay marriage. It was more like adopting someone as a sibling rather than a son or daughter. Married men and women used this rite to bond themselves with others they felt a strong kinship with. That fact proves that this was not a marriage rite because the Orthodox Church does not bless bigamy or polygamy. Single men and women also used this rite to bless deep platonic love. If it was a marriage rite, what would be the purpose of using it with people of different sex? They could just get married.

I see. So you're saying that the adelphopoesis rite is a way to adopt someone as a sibling then? Where did you hear that? That's not what I heard...

PS
I have to agree with you on what you say about Western culture being unable accept platonic love and labeling things as "gay".

Yes I know there are some odd, modern interpretations of ancient things circulating on the internet. They are false.

The information I got was from an iconographer with a degree in theology from St. Vlads. She did her own research on the topic.
