Church attendance? Gathering together? Sounds too rigid and religious to me, too traditional. "Forsake not the gathering of yourselves together"  The hebrew word interpreted as "assembling" is more accurately "gathering". The same root Hebrew word is used here as when Yashua (Jesus) said 'Oh Jerursalem, how often would I have "gathered" you as...'

The early apostolic church gathered (more informal than rigid assemble) house to house. I merely raise these points because we're called to an intimate relationship with God through Christ Jesus enabled by the Holy Spirit are we not, far to many people fail to reach their potential in God because they're spiritual life is solely dependent on a church based religious and traditional experience.

Many talk about "their church" and "their Pastor" they want to hear about God but never yearn to hear FROM God, they want to learn about a historic and fanciful Jesus without experiencing a daily life's walk with him..emmmm.

Maybe we need to stop being church junkies and mature spiritually and rely on more on the Holy Spirit to develop our relationship as we explore in God.

Hi Smilin,

Sorry to hear that you have had that kind of experience at church.

Where I go to church, people wear anything they want as long as it is not something like halter tops and shorts.  People wear suits, jeans, sweats.  And we have nice padded seats.

But the best thing is that I love the people so much.  They are closer to me than my own blood relatives.  I have not seen the hypocrisy that you talked about.  We love the Lord and each other.  I hope that someday you will find a similar place to worship. :D

BTW if someone should show up in shorts or whatever, they are warmly welcomed.

Maybe this isn't too far off topic.......

My wife and I are fairly new to the area, (Boothwyn, PA,  in Delaware County). We are looking for one of those "good"  ;)  churches as mentioned above. I am cynical of "organizations" and would prefer a non-denominational church, but we are trying to keep an open heart. My wife was raised a Christian and was sent to me to save me, so I am still taking my baby steps. I was raised Byzantine Catholic and have left for many reasons. I feel that one of the biggest things holding me back is my lack of fellowship. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Hi Michael0701,

I also attend a non-denominational church.  As I stated before, I love it there.

What you need to do is to start going to churches in your area and when you find one where the word is taught and the people model their lives after Jesus, then you'll know you're home!

I'll be praying that you and your wife will find a good church home soon .

In the meantime, enjoy the journey!
