Fasting is not for everyone but it is listed as a spiritual discipline by most Christians. Fasting should have a spiritual purpose:
to strenthen prayer
to seek God s guidence
to seek deliverence or protection
to express repentance and the return to God
to humble oneself before God
to express concern for the work of god
to minister to the needs of others
to express grief
to overcome temptation and dedicate yourself to God
to express love and worship to God
I got my info from Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald S. Whitney

And here is a verse for you SenPic--Isaiah 58::6&7

All attained through fasting because it is in effect seperating ourselves from the flesh.

Because I am cronically underweight ibarely wear 105 lbs and should weigh 110 I am unable to fast or give blood. Last april I was up to 120-115 is my ideal weight and then I ate some bad fish and lost 15 lbs in two days. i am trying to gain weight--although I fel fine--so fasting is a no-no.

I try but it's pretty hard. One time I went for the entire day, my longest ever, but during late at night, I was tempted with McDonald's, lol. I wanted to just TASTE it, and just taste the taste in my mouth that had no food for a whole day.

When you fast, you must be DEDICATED to it! :p

Perhaps my biggest assurance that it's beneficial is that Jesus did it...

When you fast--
your denying the flesh...
this helps you to grow spiritual closer to God/Jesus
there are also benifits to this...
