I've just seen this and I think it's amazing. Anyone else seen it? I would recommend seeing it, although it's perhaps not to everyone's taste (quite a lot of violence)

Hmm, I'd say there's a lot of tension, so that would probably make it quite scary. On the plus side, it makes the whole film very exciting! But it is scary in a way, not in a horror film kind of way, but more because it's tense.

Edge of the seat film and the main draw to this movie was the hired killer, played by Javiar Bardem. He was something else. I'll never look at heads or tails the same again.

"Do you know what date is on this coin?1958. It's been traveling 22 years to get here. And now it's here. And it's either heads or tails. And you have to say. Call it."

That was creepy.
The rest of the movie, for me, wasn't anything great. Ultraviolent and the most anticlimactic ending I've ever seen....

I thought it was great. Javier Bardem was ultra creepy and really unsettling, kelly macdonald and Tommy Lee Jones were really understated in their supporting roles, and I guess it's a shame that folk seem to think the unconventional ending was a fault in some way. I think it's great when films don't play out in the way you might expect but still keep the integrity of the film intact.

I think I'm going to have to read the book- there was a lot I didn't understand. I heard there was some sort of subtext when he was telling the man to call heads or tails- something about their conversation which decided whether he'd kill him or not. Or I could just get the DVD. :tutu:

So we decided to rent this since it was getting all the hype and once again I was reminded of Little Miss Sunshine in which the media makes a big deal out of lousy cinema. I was literally bored to tears throughout the whole 2 hours. Yes, there were some decent lines here and there or a climactic shooting scene which seemed to end just as fast as it started, but I found most of Jones' lines to be pointless and the rest of the movie slower than Comcast's Slowskys. The one liners weren't enough for me to call this a "good movie" and while Javier Bardem can play a disturbing enough character, it has next to no effect when the script is crap.

4/10 being generous.

I read an awesome commentary about this film. Basically the movie is an allegory about the struggle between good, evil, and those in between. We can see tommy lee jones as the good, javier as the bad, and lewelyn (sp?) as the people in between. I'll try to find it and post it here

I thought the ending was good. The good guy is left wondering where the world went wrong and the bad guy is still out there. It wasn't over the top dark like Seven was and it wasn't a typical good cop gets the bad guy ending.
The ending was craptastic!
