There is a popular slogan that is banded about in Christian circles today, God hates sin but loves the sinner`.
Is repentance of sin consistent with `God loves the sinner`?
If God pertains to love the sinner when he or she is alive, why would it be then that God would send him to hell when he dies?
So God loves the sinner to death and everlasting torment in Hell?
There is certainly a contradiction here
God either loves the sinner and does not send one into the furnace of His eternal wrath, or He sends one into His eternal wrath and does not love him.
People believe that God loves the sinner because He allows the sinner to continue to have life.
Why does God give so many blessings to the sinner unless He loves one?
It is not love but good will to the sinner?
Is God displeased with the sinner?
The sinner hates God, disobeys Him and is ungrateful?
John 8:34,Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
God has no love for the sinner at all; on the contrary He hates the sinner.
Ps.139:22,My hate for them is complete; My thoughts of them are as if they were making war on Me.
Many Christians and non Christians believe that God loves the sinner but hates the sin but that is not really true.
It is a human perseption of and misinterpretation of His Word

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

What did Jesus say?..

Joh 14:9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Jesus loved the sinners, the publicans and prostitutes and spent a lot of time with them, and had great compassion on them. If you want to see what God thinks of sin and sinners just look to Jesus.

Tav, I agree with your verse:
Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

LG50, God loved us so much he made a way for us. We have a choice now to goto Heaven or Hell.
Thanks,
TT

Question.

Why does God want humans to love people that God hates?

All of you are correct.

When YHWH said that "he so much loved the world", he was making a generalized statement. We know this, because it is revealed in the OT, as well as the NT, that there are some people he hates (e.g., Esau). So aside from the people he hates, for the most part, YHWH does love all of his creations.

Wow, so if God doesn't love everybody, He really doesn't have anything going for Him except for the all-powerful part, and without the love that just makes him look like an evil dictator.

Good thing I don't believe humans can rightly justify God's feelings.

 People go to hell because they have chosen to reject God by doing evil things and not repenting...they essentially send themselves to hell. Doesn't mean that God doesn't love them...the problem is that they don't love God, and are not accepting the forgiveness that He is freely offering them and died to give them.

The Bible says that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners...if God didn't love sinners, He would only have died for the righteous.

The OP is right but God's love for the sinner as opposed to the sin is that whilst we were still sinners Christ died for us. In fact this context is that as Moses lifted the snake up all who were bitten and looked on the bronze snake lived. So people were still being bitten because God sent the snakes for disobedience and disbelief. So Jesus has made the way to life.

Love the sinner hate the sin.
Most attribute this to God saying this statement but this statement is not in the Bible is it.
We could actually say that love the sinner hate the sin could be cliche that the imperfect human could hang on to.
We are all imperfect and God is perfect. The difference between us and God in regard to loving and hating is vast.
Even as Christians we remain imperfect in sin and in our imperfect humanity we cannot love completely, nor can we hate without certain malice.
God can do these things perfectly well, because He is a perfect God.
God can hate without any sinful intent or malice at all.
He can hate the sin and the sinner in a perfect Holy way and still be willing to lovingly forgive at the moment of that sinner`s repentence and faith.
Mal1:3
But Esau I have hated,
And laid waste his mountains and his heritage
For the jackals of the wilderness.”
2Peter3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Rev2:6
6 But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

God can love and hate a person at the same time because He is perfect.
This means that He can love His children who He created but at the same time can hate them for their unbelief and sinful life.
We can have as humans no concept of that fact.We are all imperfect and cannot do this so the best way is to remind us all that we love the sinner but hate the sin.
We hate sin by refusing to take part in it and by condemning it when we see it. Sin is to be hated, not excused or taken lightly. We love the sinner by being faithful in witnessing to them of the forgiveness that is available through Jesus Christ. A true act of love is treating someone with respect and kindness even though they know you do not approve of their lifestyle and/or choice. It is not loving to allow a person to remain stuck in sin. It is not hateful to tell a person they are in sin. In fact, the exact opposites are true.

John 4:8-9
"He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him."
That is why a personally believe that We should love the sinner but hate the sin.:)

^ Precisely. God hates sin. That's why he hated Esau. Esau despised what God gave him, much like reprobates do today. His love is commended in the fact that Christ died. I would say that God hates the sin and not the sinner. Even the reprobate has salvation available to him, {proof of God's love} though he would never accept it {which is the part that God hates}.
