• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello sisters,
I want to ask a personal question.
Do you notice that your OCD is more quick or triggered easier during or close to your menstrual cylce?

Just curios to know if you noticed!

Q
Yes - and to make matters about 100x worse, I'm on the pill, which seems to aggrivate it even more. I switched to a lower dose pill back in August and my OCD has been very manageable since then, unless life stresses me out. But the week that I am not taking the pill, my OCD and anxiety tends to get worse.

Quannie - My OCD absolutely fluctuates with my cycle - and don't even get me started about how pregnancy affected things...

Sad - I'm glad you found a pill that worked for you. I had to go off birth control completely 3 years ago because the ocd was so bad while I was on it...

Hi Quannie:
Absolutely 100% my OCD flares like clock-work when I am pre-menstrual...It totally makes sense that all of us are saying the same thing here...serotonin levels MUST drop in the pre-menstrual phase...At first I wasn't sure what was really going on, but now it is so obvious that my OCD flares at that time of the month and I have to really dig into my exposure/response therapy despite an increase in my anxiety levels at that time...

Good question, QUannie!

2 1/2 years ago, I was suffering quite a lot with depression/anxiety....and excessive pain for several days during my cycle. I did not notice a spike in the OCD, though. But, anyway, I had a hysterectomy, and it was found I had nasty fibroids. It has helped my mood considerably to be rid of my "lady thing".

Sorry guys....you were told this was for ladies only! ^_^
