I know what you mean. I used to absolutely hate public speaking. It isn't necessarily something I enjoy doing now, but getting up in front of people, and doing it anyway helps a lot. I love how God leads us to new things by leading us through smaller steps first.

Just an idea, if you're ever really nervous about getting up on stage and talking, bring a note card (if you're allowed to have one), paper clip, something you can play with in your hands fairly inconspicuously because that gives you a bit of distraction but isn't distracting to your audience.

I aced that class back in college (even made my teacher cry from laughter) and soon realized that when other classes had us doing group work, other students were so afraid of speaking that they'd always offer to do everything if I'd present it to the class.

Yay college. You learn more things that they DON'T teach you, like how to succeed without really trying.

Do you have problems with public speaking?

Today I had a presentation, and I hate public speaking :(. I am really reserved so I was really stressed about the presentation. In the past I have avoided doing these kinds of things because I was too scared and worried, but today I faced my fear and made myself do it. I couldn't bear to let myself or anyone else down, I knew that if I didn't do it then I would never change, so I made myself face my fear and I feel so much better for it.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it went quite well, and my lecturer said it was a good presentation :D.
I feel that God wants me to grow and move and find myself.

This year I want change, I want to grow, I am not going to be my worst enemy anymore.

I know facing the presentation is only a small step, it is a step of many I am going to take to find my self identity and gain confidence.

I just handle things as professionally as possible. I go up there, I have a job to do and I do that job.

Quite often though I love it, I joke, smile, have fun etc with dancing I treat it in some ways like it a job. Thats why I can dance with a girl that I have a heavy crush on without getting nervous.

I step up, my job is to first and foremost protect her, then protect myself, and lastly to make us (mostly her) look good and to have fun doing it. And I just concentrate on that and nothing else.

Also like driving on snow and ice. My job is to just get home safely. I get in my car and do my job and don't think about anything else.

I don't know I guess I've learned a lot as I've gotten older not to get nervous about stuff.

I still get butterflies everytime I do it, but I've gotten much better at it. I have learned to be calm and clear. Like Luther said I have a job to do. I read an article recently that said the authors new mantra in life was short and well rehersed...I think those are good rules of thumb.....Good Luck :)

I can completely relate to that. I used to have very little confidence, and mostly I wasn't comfortable presenting my own work, as I was sure that people would be critical of it. I actually faked illnesses to get out of presentations, and no matter how many times I did it, it didn't get any easier.

I have a lot more confidence now, but haven't been in a position where I've had to do any public speaking, and I'm not especially keen to be in one. So I think avoiding it for the rest of my life is the key :)
