I'm not catholic, and so dont have
the same doctrine as a catholic,
But that doesnt mean I want to bash
catholics (or EO, or baptists, or COG
or COGIC, or COC, or JW or WOF
or anyone else that has a different
doctrine than I believe)

We're all looking for the same truths!
:amen:

I dont want to bash anyone.

In fact...
I cannot think offhand of any
post where I've bashed anyone.

Our ministry is one of reconciliation,
not condemnation.
If i see what I perceive as error,
I will try to help or reason or
see it a different way myself.

I'd hope that's how love works.

I'm not sure I understand the question ...

is the problem the name or the act of bashing ?

GT seems more like "soccer hooliganism" sometimes.

Any Church with a 'professed creed' and 'known practices' is an easy target. And I remember the 80's -- when I heard many Christians claim that Catholics weren't Christian.

Kinda off-topic, but I hesitate to address/discuss anything that has been "set aside/dedicated to God" here. Everything tends to get dragged through the mud, treated disrespectfully. Its a great way to unlearn that humans are precious in the sight of God. I don't mind folks being "straight", or even "strong" in what they say. I do mind pot-shots, though.

I find catholic bashing to be an offensive act and I see a line drawn where most people see only permissiveness. Mostly I see it comes from a misunderstanding or an unwilingness to accept that what the catholic says he believes is really what he believes.

I've been called a catholic basher, anti catholic, and
of course many times a heretic.
I think he means 'unwarranted' name calling.
If someone is picking on someone, that's
flaming and wrong.
And it does go on often here.
even the women do that.
(not us classy women ;) )

Right, there are many Christian websites that dont allow catholics still.

Yes, but we have all levels of maturity here,
so we're going to see all levels manifest.

Many things actually, wounded on both sides.

What people fail to remember is that it's really
the enemy who's baiting them...
not the person, and so then react
on a personal level and aim at the poster.
(we wrestle not flesh and blood)

The goal is to get us into offence,,,
and divide and conquer..... plus other things.
the enemy can have a heyday with offence
against the offended one, because then
you get into unforgiveness, and when
that happens  youre in deep doo.

another problem is prejudice.
Pre judging.
THAT's what Jack is addressing here.

But as far as the uglies, and the
hating on etc..... it's pretty much
six of one and half dozen of the other.
Cath's calling prots heretics, self popes
etc.
prots calling caths idol worshippers, etc.
It wont stop, but it's stupid all the same lol.

If ya ever see me do that, slap me k?
gnight,

Are you asking whether I find it offensive when people bash Catholics or whether I find it offensive to lable people as Catholic Bashers? I find it dreadful that people bash the Catholics so much and often both on the forum and off fight for the Catholic viewpoints even though on many accounts I disagree with them. Furthermore, I have not hesitated to use the term "Catholic Basher" or something similar when it seemed appropriate.

Who finds the terms, "Catholic bashing" and "Catholic basher", to be offensive?
"Catholic bashing" is still bashing.

Bashing equates to not "Loving one another" (slightly changed to make a point) which equates to not being Christ-like.

If one is bashing Catholics (Roman Catholics, Eastern Catholics, etc) and is hence called a "Catholic basher" than I'm sure there is a reason for it.

Who finds the terms, "Catholic bashing" and "Catholic basher", to be offensive?

I would find those offensive if they are being used to desribe someone or something that merely disagrees with Catholiism .

I find "protestant" offensive as a label for anyone not in their club . I understand that there are clubs that call themselves "protestant" . However , not all of us care about changing the Catholic organization .

Edited to add : come to think of it , since the Catholic appologists love to call all noncatholics "protestants" to bash them , I don't really care if their club *is* bashed from time to time . While there is actual bashing going on , most of the negative comments about their organization are true and are not bashing . If their appologists were actually open and honest about their group , there would be room for more civil discussion .

Actually, its the "Catholic bashing", and the "Catholic bashers" themselves that I find offensive. There is no reason to belittle other peoples beliefs

I can tell you that no Catholic intends to bash anybody when using the word “protestant”. The word “protestant” has never been considered a slur in the past.

Popular English language undergoes changes every now and then. Fifty years ago, for example, if you said someone was “gay’, it was automatically assumed that you meant they are happy, but now it is automatically assumed that you mean they are a homosexual. These changes seem to come upon us overnight, and don’t ask me how. As I said, the word “protestant” has never been a slur, but apparently that too is changing.

However, words like Papist, Romish, etc. ARE considered to be anti-Catholic slurs, and they have been used often in this forum. You can look them up in Wikipedia for yourself. So, when a person uses these words, being fully aware that they ARE slurs, this can only be described as Catholic Bashing.

What we have in this thread is an attempt to set up a situation so that a person can bash Catholics, but when they actually get accused of bashing Catholics, they can cry foul and report their accuser. This is the height of hypocrisy. It would be as if a racist used the “N-Word”, then played the victim when accused of being a racist. Amazing!

However, as I have said in other threads, if YOU feel the word protestant is a slur, I will not use it. I do not wish to cause my non-Catholic brothers and sisters to stumble. But, if I witness Catholic Bashing taking place, I will call it what it is.

Nothing like a little Christian love in the morning.
Gary is probably one of "those" who believe the pope and Roman church are the bad guys in Revelation. I of course believe otherwise.

Ummm.... Your right.
I would think the Jews would disagree with that and besides, the Catholics are also washed in the blood of JESUS, but oh well..........
