Hi...one of my rare nights of TV. I never watch TV, except I'm sick so I'm stuck at home on a Friday night....

And there's this half an hour segment on nine i think showing what to buy for Christmas....absolutely disgusting...different segments where certain shops obviously payed the channel to advertise their products.

Is there anything worth watching on television anymore?

Let's hope that Cold Mountain is okay right now.

Yes I remember the movie Cold MOuntain. I went to a Christmas party last night and came home and started watching, unfortunately it was on one of the more horrible moments of that movie and I wasn't in the mood for it, so I turned it off.

Yes commercial tv is horrible, and yes the shops this time have a real atmosphere of GREED. I can't stand it. So this time of year I try to avoid it, the supermarkets aren't as bad thankfully, but the bigger shopping malls - Ugh!!!!! So this time of year I only have to go and pay off one layby which I will do this week.

That show sounds like rubbish, but there are plenty of others. Anyone ever watched Quiz Mania?

I don't know if it's greed, their business is to make a buck for shareholders. I think it's the people who watch them.

I thought this thread was going to be about all the filth on the commercial channels, lol.

Sure there is good TV out there, for those who wish to watch it.

If I remember when it's on, I love watching House...it's a great show. Veronica Mars was also great, but it's been cancelled (unfortunately)

This is part of the reason we have Foxtel IQ....to fast forward through all the ads! :p

Check out Instal-life.
They will provide you with a satelite dish and set top box for around $400. You will then be able to watch 9 (nine) Christian channels 24/7.

We have it and it is great.

I agree. There’s quite a bit of good stuff out there. I’ve set my HDD recorder to tape all my favourite shows automatically each week, and I just watch them later. No need to remember what’s on when or miss stuff that’s on late at night.

And the ad-skip function is invaluable.

That sounds good.

What about for renters though?

We have a foxtel or whatever it is, it's definitely a satelite dish of some sort for pay tv according to dh. So how does it all work anyway, and do they have kids shows on there? Like vegietales etc.

The childrens channel is called 'Smile of a child.'
It is mainly American, but always a good message.

Sounds like you already have the dish Neenie, so like us it would cost you $250.00.
It is a one off fee with nothing else to pay ever again.

So what happens if we move, do I have to set it up again? We are only renting and I don't know..... we just don't watch that much tv, only on the weekends and the school holidays do the kids seem to watch heaps of tv.
Yes you can take it with you.
Setting up again shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Much better than the kids watching most of the programmes on now.

Why not watch on the ABC instead and stop whinging? Nobody is forcing you to watch commercial tv. Sheesh!

Amen sister! I too have Foxtel. I don't have the IQ bit yet - don't think I'm smart enough to use it, LOL; but I do record all my Foxtel programs so I can later watch in delight as I fast forward through the ads (especially PartyMax - I'm sick of getting ads for condoms after every song!).
