Ok, here's the thing. I'm very new to this Faith, the Catholic Faith that is......I haven't attended church regularly since I was a small child and then it was a Baptist Church I attended with my mom. I've always believed in God, know there is a God, but I've never really given much thought about religion or serving the Lord until a couple of years back. It's been a journey and I've totally changed my life around a lot, but I know there's still more to do. I've felt very drawn to the Catholic Faith and after much thought I've decided I want to become a Catholic. I thought it was too late to get in the RCIA Classes, but fortunate enough for me I wasn't and went to my first class last Monday. Now here's my dilemma..........Do I go ahead and start attending Mass and such? I've been reading a lot and I'm not quite certain what I can participate in until I become affirmed and I haven't been baptised yet either, so what do I do? Should I just wait until I finish all of my classes or not? I'm very timid about going and not knowing what to do, honestly I feel like a child that needs some guidance..........someone out there please give me some advice. Oh and if I was too long winded, sorry...........

Yes. Attend liturgy and get involved in the community of the church. Volunteer for the church cleaning parties or other women's group events.....

Become friends with the priest and get to know him and others who stand out as leaders in the church. Introduce yourself and ask for a little bit of their time to just have them tell you about the church community and get their advice how you can be of help....

I would recommend getting to mass as often as you can. It was probably the most helpful thing for me when I converted five years ago. You just have to abstain from receiving Holy Communion until your confirmed.

May the Lord hold and keep you as you make your way on this awesome journey.

I am currently in RCIA class... on Monday nights too!

We got to Mass every Sunday as a family. My hubby is Catholic. When it's time for Communion, I just step aside and let others go up. As far as I know, our Parish does not do the "blessing" thing where you cross your arms. But I have seen it at a smaller Parish I visited. So that may vary depending on the Parish... not sure.

Introduce yourself to the Priest and tell him that you're interested and a little uncertain and intimidated. He'll likely give you a warm welcome - and with luck introduce you to someone like me. I get introduced to the youngish new people at Church, then I invite them over and we have a fire outside and get very drunk. I love Church.

The catechumens and candidates at our parish are encouraged to attend the same Mass (09:15) and are "dismissed" after the Liturgy of the Word to discuss with a member of the RCIA team the readings for the week and such.

I highly recommend that you attend Mass each Sunday so you can get to know the people of your parish. Most parishes have missals in the pews that have the readings, prayers and responses for the Mass. If there aren't any at your parish, you should consider buying one LIKE THIS.
