An old man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin
your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing,
forty-five years of misery is enough." "Pop, what are you talking about?"
the son screams. "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer" the old
man said. "We're sick and tired of each other, and I'm sick of talking about
this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her." And he hangs up.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "There's no way
they're getting a divorce," she shouts. "I'll take care of this." She calls
Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting
divorced! Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother
back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then don't do a thing, DO YOU
HEAR ME?" And she hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his
wife, smiling. "Great," he says, "they're coming home for Christmas AND paying their own
way!!
Alone today in pain and sorrow.
Expect to feel the same tomorrow.
People cold, compassion rare.
I often think, does someone care?
Go outside, put on a mask.
Still drinking from a bitter cask.
My life a sham. A mere charade.
And with each day my hope just fades.
Went to a church, my soul to sate.
The preacher did intimidate.
I felt not love, but only scorn.
I left the place so tired and worn.
I went back home in sheer despair.
Does anybody REALLY care?
I'll feel this way forever more.
Then a knock on my heart's door.
Be still my Child, in Me find rest.
Open your heart, I'll be your guest.
I'll teach you what you need to know.
In time you'll find your faith will grow.
One can SAY my Words and yet,
Words without Love, your needs not met.
One can KNOW my Words and fail.
Without love, the knowledge stale.
One can DO my Word but know,
That without Love, your faith won't grow.
This is what I want to teach.
That without Love, no one you'll reach.
Lord, HOW will this help heal my soul.
Nobody cares, this world is COLD.
The Lord replied, to meet YOUR need,
To harvest Love, first PLANT the seed.
