OK, here's a third staff member that would call a cussing post a rule violation. :)
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10 1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

There's a time and place for everything. And, in my opinion, this message board is not the place for cussing, ever. Like I teach my children, "There are somethings that an adult can do in the privacy of their own homes/cars that kids can never do. Cussing is one of them. Also, cussing is never okay in the public arena." This message board is public. You only embarass yourself and/or offend others if you cuss in public.

Also, there's Romans 2:24 . . .

PW - filtered? I do not remember any such claim. BUT! I was suggested by me that any time hell was used as an expletive or in a flippant non-Biblical sense it should be ruled a profanity/vulgarity and deleted. My case was less than successful.

Truth be told, I don't think it was you, Max. I can't honestly remember, though. Your request is a good one, though, so I can't see myself mixing the two up.

You started your own thread on the topic at some point in time if I remember correctly.

I'm getting too old, I can't remember NOTHIN'!! ;)

Apparently there's some discussion at 4U on getting rid of the profanity filter. How do you fellow Conservative Christians feel about reading through filth on a "christian" message board?

For myself, I can't stand cussing in real life and don't think that a message board that calls itself "christian" should permit it.

There are a couple that I can think of, that would not be counted as cuss words where I come from. Its all very well and good saying that different cultures have different swearwords, however there are some that seem to have a universally profane meaning.

Getting rid of it, bad idea IMO

I agree edie.

Though, I have been prone to the dreaded four letter word every now and then, specially driving in Detroit. And that's usually because words fail me when I realize the sheer stupidity of some people on the road. I know, doesn't make it right...

It's like the kids on the playground resorting to "your momma's so fat" jokes because they have nothing left that is meaningful to say.

I disagree that vulgar speech of any kind is acceptable for one who claims to be washed in the blood of the lamb. Even the most vile heathen, will curb their language when they know a Christian or a minister is within earshot in real life. God bless them, as apparently
even if they don't acknowledge it, they do possess a holy fear of the Lord.

Why would a Christian site even consider to permit foul language?

Want to get rid of those who truly belong to Christ? Keep pushing the
envelope and enjoy the rotten harvest thereof
that you can expect.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,
but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may
minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29

Perfect verse for this topic IAR

I don't allow people (non-christians) to cuss around me at work and I definitely won't accept it here surrounded by my brothers & sisters in Christ.

Since everyone has the ability to edit their posts prior to submitting there is no reason for profanity to be used. "It just slipped out" doesn't apply in this format.

From my standpoint as a mod, I will request an edit on any post that has profanity.

I would like to make it clear - that IRL is quite different than online. IRL you can speak before you think or in the heat of passion or excitement and slip. A person does not SLIP when they take the time to think it - to type it - to read it on the screen - and then hit enter and leave it.

I agree with you Max. People that cuss online are intending to cuss. There is plenty of opportunity to not post. I have typed some stuff many times and then don't post it because, after reading it, the post seems inappropriate.

Well I didn't hear of this talk...err uh oh.

Well I tell ya this. When I'm mad, I cuss like a drunken sailor. I don't think it's a good thing, but out of frustration I lack the ability to come up with any good vocabulary and I have to get my feelings out somehow.

I don't want to go around this board though and see people cussing for no good reason though.

In my humble opinion it is just an excuse for bad grammar skills even if it is just in the momment you are in. But certainly offensive to some, and some members would take it to the extreme, so I wouldn't want to see it allowed here.

Our purpose in life is to live for the glory of God I don't see how cussing is a part of that.
All things are permissible, but not all beneficial you mean?
Ties in nicely with so many things, to me more so than the Ephesians verse, though that applies too.
