Well said Auntie and let me add that the moment that profanity is allowed in this website is the moment that I will no longer be in this website. Whether one believes that profanity is a sin or not is inconsequential. We are suppose to be more like Christ and I don't recall Him cussing. Me and my wife have not cussed in real life in years. This is a victory for the Lord that I am not willing to compromise.

That's what I'm thinking, Henry. I've put up with just about every effort by owners, both past and present, to remove orthodox Christian values from this forum. Granted it's their forum, but if you aren't going to adhere to orthodox beliefs, why call it Christian at all?

I want to hear all those "conservative" christians who say cussing is OK go up to Jesus when it's their turn and say, You know, Jesus - I thought it was OK to say that and used my freedom to speak filth. Wonder what he's going to say in return.

Wow, very well said, ContentInHim.

I am completely dumbfounded as to what I would say in the presence of my Lord.:(

I could only ask for His mercy and His forgiveness.:(

LOL!!!! I am already feel like a dog with his tail between the legs thinking about what I am going to say to the Lord when I see him.:prayer:

I just don't feel like I need to add cussing to the rest of the pile of stuff that I am going to have to answer for. Cussing is something that I can control. Heck, just being around my grandchildren is enough for me. I don't want them repeating any filth that comes out of my mouth.

Do any of you think that "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]o-ryu Karate" should be filtered? It's not an idle question. The profanity filters at some other websites do exactly that.

No.

The problem with any filter is that it is controlled by a machine, not a rational mind. But I agree that it is necessary to have it.
It does, however, have it's limitations... one of which is cultural. There is at least one word which is not a swearword in English, but is filtered whenever I use it, so evidently is in the US! And another that I have seen used often which I find offensive, but is evidently fine there.....

Sorry this is such a problem for you, as you keep pressing it as though it were some kind of real priority.

Just being able to include all the ugly four letter words in public posting has been one very hot issue on CF before.

The passion with which supporters of this kind of freedom mass up to defend it is amazing. They will even deny the actual bases of foul expressions by showing just how widespread their use has become; thus they infer that the original meaning no longer applies, and the term is now quite acceptable.

Profanity seems to be a word rather lightly used and I wonder if the meaning of it has slipped our minds.

Merriam-Webster refresher:

Main Entry: pro·fane
1 : to treat (something sacred) with abuse, irreverence, or contempt : desecrate
2 : to debase by a wrong, unworthy, or vulgar use
— pro·fan·er noun

Synonyms: secular, temporal

Related Words: atheistic, godless, irreligious, pagan; lay, nonclerical; nondenominational, nonsectarian; earthly, mundane, terrestrial, worldly; material, physical, substantial; bodily, carnal, corporal, fleshly; blasphemous, impious, irreverent, sacrilegious; unconsecrated, unhallowed, unsanctified

Near Antonyms: divine, spiritual; consecrated, hallowed, holy, sanctified; churchly, devout, godly, pious, prayerful, reverent, worshipful; ethereal, insubstantial, metaphysical, unsubstantial; bodiless, immaterial, incorporeal, nonphysical

Antonyms:religious, sacred

2 not showing proper reverence for the holy or sacred <offended by the profane language that her coworkers used so casually> — see irreverent

If, as Christians, we confess that we are created by God, and, moreover, that we owe our lives and our salvation to Christ by His death upon the Cross, we must be saying that there is not one moment of our lives when we do not owe modesty and honor and duty to His Name.

It is an awesome faith. We believe that we must be worthy of it somehow.

I make of myself a living vessel,
either sacred or profane,
I may only pour into your cup
that which I have chosen to contain.

profanity IS allowed on this website.

Only if you bypass the filter by being inventive, however, I will rule it a violation just about every time.

Sorry, Henry. If you do not call the free rein the atheists have been given over in the Christian Teens section profanity, you are missing a huge point.

That some of the atheists posting there are obviously over 21 is a given. Why would they not lie about their age, since they lie about both God and Christianity with every sentence?

Blasphemy and profanity go hand in hand.

When will LeeD and CF administrators wake up? The idea was to protect Christians who may be weak in faith, especially vulnerable are adolescents.

CF is filled with every kind of mind-boggling profanity.

:sigh:

As I recall, the notion was never for removing the filter. It was whether some words needed to be added, that's all. The discussion turned quickly into a "what exactly is vulgarity" discussion.

The idea behind the rule for vulgarity is that if you see the [wash my mouth], you need to edit your post, plain and simple. The fact that so many posts get left with the [wash my mouth]s speak volumes.

Then again, I had the filter go nuts on me a couple of times. It filtered my name and it filtered some fake HTML coding I put into a post. Filters, like humans, aren't perfect.

I'm not going to even post what needed to be added. It was definitely vulgar and the very fact that someone posted it around CF somewhere is atrocious.

In that same thread, someone suggested, seriously, that we filter hell.
