Some schools are no longer teaching evolution because of pressure from creationist parents. I think it is horrible that students can no longer learn real science because of conservative parents who are against evolution and conservative teachers who avoid anything controversial. What do you think of this.

I think it's terrible.
We do our children a great disservice by withholding important scientific teachings.
If your child's school becomes negligent in the teaching of science. Teach it yourself.
A parent is the most important teacher a child will ever have.

First, kids are part of a family (a mother and father in a perfect world) second, they are part of a larger family, society. So, the wishes of parents should be held as important.
But also:
If a child has a love for science, the couple of days discussing creation is not going to quench that love. Likewise, if a child has a love for God a couple of days talking about evolution is not going to quench that love.

It's a buch to do about nothing, actually.

No, I didn't mean that at all. Kids can have a love for both, in fact i am an example of that. I loved science, still do, and God.

That is not the issue to me. Kids are the responsibility of family first, society second, that is my issue.

Since I believe creation IS scientific ....

I think it's really maddening that where I live (California, VERY conservative state [sarcasm]), creation isn't taught at all. Proven evolution ERRORS are taught, in fact. Like that guy that drew those fake pictures of a baby in the womb and claimed it was evolution.

Once you put God or the supernatural into science, it ceases to be science. So, no, creation is not scientific.

And in some very conservative states (like Georgia and South Carolina), they avoid the subject entirely. They don't talk about evolution at all.
These are also the states with some of the lowest test scores.

Creationism isn't science. Pure and simple. It's not taught in accredited colleges, isn't written about in peer-reviewed journals, isn't researched in the biology labs of premier colleges.

Sure, some people are big on it. They even have their own journals. That's their deal. There's perpetual motion people too.

Public school is, to a large extent, college prep. You're being taught, in addition to the basics any citizen should know, what your professors in college expect you to know going into their introductory courses.

So, first off, Creationism shouldn't be taught in science class. It's not what biologists consider science. It's not what courts consider science. If you don't like it, yank your kid. He can take another class instead. There are plenty.

Don't taint my child's biology education because of your religious beliefs.

Ocean,

Thanks for the answers. Now that I have my family support issue over with I can now say that I am one Christian that believes that teaching of relegion in public schools is not a good thing.
First, the teachers are not qualified. The material would become even a larger issue than we are discussing here. And, it's a family issue and should be taught at home and in church.

Next time, could you bias the wording of the choices a bit more? Something along the lines of...

o Great! It's about time they stopped teaching this atheist lie in schools! We should hang all evolutionists in effigy and cram any superstition we can find in the Bible down the throats of all kids!

o Bad. These students need to learn about the one true science, so that they'll become extremely well adjusted, brilliant, credible adults who are well-founded in reality and none of that superstitious nonsense.

o Good. There shouldn't be anything controversial in schools, but only what the good ol' King James says, by crackee.

o No opinion, since I am a moron.

o Other (please state your opinion, but back it up with credible sources that only accept evolution as a fact)

I'm wondering WHAT school isn't teaching evolution anymore? hehe :) I've never heard of such a thing.

Many scientists belive in Creation by the way. And many scientist evolutionists believe evolution is a belief and not science.

Hm, I think there is ab ook called Scientific Creationism. It's good.

Gosh, I can't imagine why. After all, anyone who thinks this news is great must also think that evolution is the great atheist lie, so it's perfectly fair and balanced to word it that way.

Here in Ontario almost all mention of evolution (with the exception of a Grade 12 biology course, which is entirely optional) was taken out of the school curriculum. From what I could gather, it was done for PC reasons.
