I have been a Christian (or at least tried to be) for quite some time now. Yet I found my spirituality lack of substance, or simply put it, my faith isn't strong or clear enough. And as a matter of fact I don't get around to finish reading the Bible once yet, as sometimes I found the scriptures confusing, or maybe I am just lazy.

I am looking for some books or guidelines to help me study bible better, more focused and perhaps can give me a better sense of direction in my spiritual journey, and how I can identify and serve my role in the church (which I have yet to decide...). I have read some books by Oswald Sanders such as Spiritual Leadership or The Divine Art of Soul Winning (which I am still struggling to finish), and I can say Sanders had a deep understanding of the Bible which I don't find myself capable of when I read those scriptures which he mentioned and interpreted in his books.

I also read other chrisitan books such as Knowing God by James Packer or The Case For Christ by Lee Strobel. For now I would like to ask what books besides the Bible you guys would recommend reading, say on seeking spiritual growth and strengthening faith in Jesus and the salvation, or on how to commit and organize my life better to bible study and hopefully, undertake my role as a disciple and uphold the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) Jesus preached to all of us as he did to the eleven disciples two thousand years ago?

Any suggestions are welcomed, thanks.

I got a lot out of Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby and Claud King. It is a study that first came out in the 1990s. The new book is easier to follow. Here is a link to a site supporting the study. I highly reccomend this book for anyone wanting to discern and follow the will of God. It is lifechanging stuff.

It might be a bit challenging, but I have found the writings of the Apostolic Fathers to be a magnificent companion volume to the Bible. And the apocryphal Gospels (like the Infancy Gospel of James) are delightful legends about the lives of the Lord and the saints from the early centuries. None of these writings are comparable to Scripture, of course, but they provide insight into how the Earliest Church received and interpreted the Bible.
