a view of God and Christianity

Even though I do not follow a particular denomination or go to church I do believe in God, a higher power, one who believes in moral truths and morality. I thought I would give a few observations about the stae of Christianity in the United States.
It is undoubtedly under attack for numerous reasons, some having to do with the modern "need" to be politically correct, but as with many things it really comes down to money. Greed. Profit. Megacorporations. A few who think it's ok to flood the world with unwholesome, unintellectual, uneducational things just as long as they get their $500,000 house and $80,000 car.
The most important thing in our world are children, obviously, they are the future. And to build the future through them there has to be a highy structured system to teach them right from wrong, and the numerous things that stem from this philosophy.
I will say there are things about Christianity's past that I don't agree with, but that sort of goes without saying because if one were to weigh the pluses and minuses of any philosophical movement, there always WILL be some bad things, it is for certain.
But as far as modern Christianity, the most imperative thing that seems to be on the minds of pastors and activists and the like, is "revival".
From an objective standpoint there is only one way a revival is going to work. The modern Christianity movement has to put more of an emphasis on the *virtues* of God, and less on the things God condemns.
I find it sort of counter productive, when reading through Christian websites and news sites, when I see nothing but a long list of articles about "Corrupt youth" and "abortion" and "television filth" and "gay culture invading the world" and so forth. It would make much more sense in my opinion to simply regard these issues as secondary to the virtues of scripture - the GOOD things God wants for his children.
For every one Christian web site that reminds us that he who follows God shall have an overflowing cup, and a life of peace and livelihood, there are 10 that talk about what God condemns.
This is not faith! It does not require faith to simply report all of the world's ills. God wants his children to be happy, be young, have fun, and follow simple rules of morality.
Following the bible literally should be secondary in comparison. Faith is the key! The bible says many things, about talking animals and great plagues and viloence, but Hebrew and English are 2 different languages! Also, it was written 2000 years ago. It's anyone's guess what was intended as literal and what was intended as metaphor.
Those with a true heart and a yearning for peace should focus on peace itself. That would be the best of any revival. Where there is peace morality follows, and vice versa. And peace cannot exist if all people want to talk about are the things God condemns and the punishment for sin and so forth. Just like it's impossible to feel peaceful when watching the 10 o'clock news full of car crashes and terrorism and violence.
No matter what happens I am God's child until the day I die, and God will be pleased that I tried to set a good example, for peace. Sure I have "sinned" but I am human, who hasn't? "He who has never sinned shall cast the first stone" is probably the most obvious of ALL the scriptures and it is so commony forgotten!!!!
This is about all I have to say, forgive my spelling, my computer is acting weird tonight.

Go with God,

James

Welcoooooome James!!!

Amen! That was good! just one thing; I'm a child of God until the day I say I don't want to be a child of Him. Many people are a child of him in the beginning but then thay just don't want God to be their Father. That means that they maybe die, without God. I liked the thins you said about peace and so, it was good! Blessings!

In the Bible, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life: No man can come to the Father but by me" John 14 : 6

Christianity is about being Christ-Like; most people now days say their Christians-- but the actions and words do not show to be Christ-Like. They simply have a form of Godliness-- but their denying the power there of.

If you out there say your a Christian--
then when was the last time youve done some of the things Christ had done?
When was the last time you sacrificed a meal that someone else may eat-?
Or sacrificed a meal for several days to pray for someone?
Or even offered to help a homeless person by offering shelter at your OWN HOME?

And as far as revivals...
WE, as Christians, NEED to have a revival WITHIN our OWN HOMES.....
THEN we can have revivals other places.
:D

Jesus also told the women to go and sin no more. He demonstrated God's Grace to her, and within the Grace of God is the power of God to live free from sin.

You are a very important person to God Sensei. It is for people like you, who have the discernment to know truth from error, that God is going to show, who is approved and who is not approved. God is going to show you, who has favor with Him, and who does not have favor with Him. Of course we know that the Father was well pleased with His Son. So also, we know that those who are like the Son, who have His divine thoughts and who have the mind of Christ, they also will be approved by God.

Revival is no problem. The Bible clearly teaches we enter into His Courts with thanksgiving and His gates with praise. Anytime people worship God in Spirit and in Truth, in Thanksgiving and in Praise, there is going to be revival. It's the people who grumble and complain that God can not stand. After all He has done for us, no one has any reason for anything other than to rejoice in HIm. God is a God of this moment of time. We do not have to wait for Him, He is waiting on us. Thanks, JohnR7

We know who is and who is not a Child of God, by their attitude. Those who love others, who want to build up, strengthen and edify, have the right Jesus attitude. Those who gosip, back bite and are always tearing others down, do not have the right attitude to be Children of God. Thanks, JohnR7

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Welcome James.

Your post was interesting, but one thing might help you get your message across: People rarely respond well to the criticism of strangers. If you had posted with us a while, and gotten to know us personally, it would have had a bigger impact on us. Criticism is best done inside fellowship, and even better inside friendship. After all, how can anyone know a stranger well enough to speak about their personal foibles and faults.

I agree that American Christians are often off-track in their walk. But it is difficult to accept your comments as valid because we don't know you, anything about you, or what your motives are. Believe it or not, some people post here just to be bigshots in their own minds! That's not the case with you, I'm sure, and I look forward to getting to know you, so we can examine each other's faults together!

James,

Most of your post was very good and i agree that Christians as a whole need to focus more on the blessings we have and the faith we have in Jesus.

However, you seem to be guilty of the very things you are complaining about! You have focused on nothing but the negativity that *some* Christians or groups of Christians have. Also, as Christians we should be made aware of what is going on in our world. How else would we know what to pray for??
Another point is that we are to be "the salt of the earth" and a light in a dark world. we can be neither of those things if we do not see and respond to that which is wrong.
