Hiya all!

My partner and I have recently got engaged and now thinking about the wedding.

We live in the UK and will get married here, so I would appreciate advice and help for the UK please.

We have decided that we would like a Christian wedding, but for it to be held outdoors. Is this possible?

I've been told that some non-denominationals will do this, but I have no idea how to go about finding out more info.

Under UK, if you want to get married in a hotel, park, stately home, etc, you can not have any scripture reading, prayers, hymns, etc. Therefore, it is purely a civil wedding.

Anyway, does anyone know if it is possible to have a Christian wedding outdoors? (which will be legal and will mean that we are actually married!!).

Thanks in advance.

I think that it will depend greatly on denomination and even more the personal feelings of the "minister of religion" who marries you

Also, are you in Scotland or England/NI/Wales as the laws are different

I would say if you are in a Church then your first port of call would be your pastor/minister and if your not then think about what denom you would like to marry you and start of by speaking to them

the minister will have a pretty good hold of what is legal and if they don't then they WILL know where to go to find out

Congratulations by the way

God Bless

I don't think it's possible to have a wedding outdoors in the UK yet. I think the law currently requires that weddings take place in a building that is registered for marriages...so a church or other registered venue (some hotels, stately homes, castles, etc).

I heard that this law was changing so that it was just the officiant that was registered and the ceremony could then take place outside but I don't think those changes have been implemented yet.

Currently the way to have a legal wedding and an outdoors ceremony is to have the legal wedding ceremony separate to the wedding ceremony you really want. For example, you could have a legal wedding in the local register office with just you, your fiance and two witnesses and then have your outdoor Christian ceremony a couple of days afterwards. The outdoors bit then won't be a legal ceremony but can be the ceremony you really want with the legal bit already taken care of.
