Roy, you said, "We should make ourselves ready for the return of Christ as though He would return at any moment. Therefore we should do all we can to advance the Kingdom of God while we still have the power to do so."

How do you advance the Kingdom of God? What actions do you take daily?

You must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour. (Luke 12:40)

Don't we have to go through all the stuff in Revelation first? Wouldn't that be a giveaway?

Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. (Luke 21:36)

If we live a Christ-like life, isn't that all we need to do?

Ok wow I am really lost........

This has nothing to do with bringing people back from the dead during Jesus times  I just wanted to point out.....

Didnt you see ER last Thur... no seriously you can be dead for a while (heart) and they bring you back although the fact is more than likely you would be a vegetable......cause once your heart stops beating blood stops flow to the brain and it dies or whatever.....So you can be brain dead but physically alive....

Anyways

Christ is TWO?!?!?!?!??!

WHAT?

I am really lost at that.

The second coming of Christ is the rapture.

"HUH, There isn't any proof that jesus or god is real, and the Laws of Physcis does not allow some one that is all powerfull and Knowing like GOD, if there was there would be proof. I believe in the proof that physcis has gave us not what is in the bible."

There is no proof that your great great grandfather exsisted either, nor that he was real. Laws of Physics can be broken (ask smart people like Stephen Hawking about prebig bang) physics can be deceptive also, saying something can happen and in reality it can't..that's why you have THEORECTICAL physics :)

So just cause you believe that god is going to come and all of us people that don't believe in god should watch out for something bad to happen. Do you know how fantastic, and crazy that sounds. There is no proof of god so don't tell me that i am going to goto hell or have something bad happen to me just cause its in the bible. People can't go around telling people change there ways cause we are all going to die, that is crazy talk. Humans will be on this planet forever. No matter what you think.

as i said in another post.

(Let's face it: there are no god(s) because everything in universe goes by natural laws which are consequence of math and logic. No room for god(s).

Ancient people did not know who pushes Sun across sky and who makes thunder, so they came up with Apollo and Zeus (and a few dozens of other gods and antigods to run the universe).

We now see these naive superstitions as a honest attempt to fill gaps in limited ancient knowledge about nature.

Fortunately knowledge today fills most of ancient gaps with laws of nature which all mathematically follow from fundamental symmetries (like left=right, today=yesterday, electron#1 = electron#7 and so on), and nature just obeys them.

So Apollo and Zeuses were evicted (or retired) and thanks to education everyone today can take a class (or a textbook) and learn how nature works (=physics, chemistry, biology, geology, astronomy, etc).

No longer we need apollo and zeuses today - they don't push Sun or make big sparks.

Same as a child who trusts his/her parents on Santa, and then suddenly grows up learning very sad truth that it is not Santa who makes and deliver toys - this hypothesis (of Santa) which he/she thought as of "truth" yesterday simply contradicts all observable facts.

Life is chemistry, chemistry is quantum mechanics, quantum mechanics is math.To learn how natural laws, natural forces and natural objects originate from math, click: http://www.emmynoether.com/)

God IS logical...God created the universe and all the logical, physical laws governing it.

We now see these naive superstitions as a honest attempt to fill gaps in limited ancient knowledge about nature.

I'm sorry that you believe Christianity falls within this realm of superstition. I pray that your eyes will be opened one day my friend. God bless you.

Seesaw I do see your points and do understand, having been there (atheism) myself, but being a few years older than you, and having a bit more experience with people and the world, I did come to believe in something greater than just us or just science.

Please remember, the Bible is not the final word on God (or whatever you wish to call it--I believe the word God, while handy, is too laden with preconceptions and is too confining). If that is what you base your atheism on I think you should look around a LOT more. I would suggest a cross section of themes and ideas such as "How to Know God" by Deepak Chopra, or "Conversations with God" by Neale Walsch, "Awareness" by Anthony DeMello, or "Tao te Ching" by Lao Tzu, just for starters.

If you have read these or others and still hold to your beliefs, then more power to you. Just remember, greater minds than yours and mine have believed and not believed; that's what makes it so much fun! Just follow your heart, don't always follow your mind, and you may be surprised where you end up.

Have a wonderful journey. :)

Yes i understand, but the bible is just a book, and everything in it is impossiable it breaks the laws of physics. Believing in a book just cause it has the word GOD in it doesn't mean that its real. So why does christians ack like it is.

Rising_Suns, I guess you havn't been to a real physics class have you.

Couple of points here if ya don't mind

seesaw...I am also an atheist and I am asking you to chill just a bit. We are guests here and need to disagree agreeably IMO :)

Rising_Suns and other Christians...correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Bible state (or at least indicate) that when Jesus comes again it will be in his full power as Lord? Being born and raised as a human again does not sound familiar to me as part of the second coming scenario.

I know you think so seesaw, and it's a heated topic of debate...however, our hosts believe it is an inspired work and you are not likely to change their minds by yelling that it'sall stuff and nonsense. I personally believe it is a mix of oral traditions written down at a later time, history, and myth/legend (somewhat like what has happened with legends of King Arthur)....but that's a bit more than just an old book...so even us atheists have differing opnions.

If you'd like to discuss the issue, please start a topic on "The Veracity of the Bible" or "Evidence against the Bible" or whatever and be prepared to back up your opinion with documentation, well cited research, some kind of evidence or at least well thought out reasons...you saying it's just an old book does not make it so ANYMORE than a Christian saying it's God's inerrant Word makes it so.

This is what debate is about...we can have our opinions, just be prepared to put up or shut up as they say ;).
