The thing that is different about Christianity from Hinduism is that God came to us, to be with us, to be one of us - and God freed us from our sins...and is an ever present and intimately close friend.

The best way to show this is through your words and actions. Talk to them - but ask a lot of questions. Learn about them - don't try to school them.

And how are they supposed to glean the Gospel from this?

Is this the Biblical model (if so, where?) or are we called to preach the Gospel to them?

That was harsh.

Think about how little some of Jesus' followers knew about Him, or the Law, or the gospel of salvation.

Lack of information is never good, but a person has to want to understand it before they are willing to take in new concepts. Think about how many kids have failed HS classes because they weren't interested, or didn't vest themselves in the subject matter.

There is value in the balance of the two. Some people are gifted in planting the seed, others in loosening the ground, others in warming the soil, others in watering, others in harvesting. One action is not more valuable than the other.

The problem with witnessing to Hindus is while they may be interested and the Bible sounds goods, many of us American Christians have set such a bad example for Christianity by not living according to what we believe. So try do your best to follow God's Word even more than prove to them it's correct.

I'm glad to see a Brother as young as you are already realizing this. It doesn't matter what that Brother or that Sister shows the person---it matters what YOU as a Christian shows that non-believer. Just because alot of Christians give Christianity a bad name, doesn't mean you have to go along and do the same thing!

Usually a Christian doesn't have to mention ANYTHING about the Bible to make a good impression. If we show love and compassion, that will spark something because honestly there aren't too many people walking around with love and compassion in mind with anything they do. Alot of people notice NICE people, CARING people---they wonder often what motivates them to be like that.

Jesus did preach about God and heaven--- but He also knew when words would not reach a person, actions instead would be the best way. He washed His disciples feet, He healed many, He fed even more, and He broke the bread and drank the wine. He preached and He did---both of those methods really helped each of us to see what it means to be a true Christian.

That was harsh...Some people are gifted in planting the seed, others in loosening the ground, others in warming the soil, others in watering, others in harvesting. One action is not more valuable than the other.

But remember, he's not even planting a seed. He's just doing a series of good works by which the sinner is supposed to somehow extrapolate that he is a sinner who faces God's judgement.

Honestly, I don't see how somebody cutting my grass is supposed to be sharing the Gospel.

In the Bible, the model of evangelism is never doing good works in the hopes that somehow, by some minute chance, the person may glean that he is a sinner, without the Christian having to feel uncomfortable for sharing the Gospel.

The idea that we do these good works so that people will think, "Hey! So and so did a nice thing and he's a Christian. Therefore, Jesus must be really cool" is modern pop-Christianity, but it isn't Biblical. The Biblical model is always one of sharing the law with the person in order to bring about conviction, then going on to the next step, which is the hope of salvation and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ and His atonement on the cross.

If God puts someone in our path and we choose to do things to glorify ourselves, rather than share the Gospel with them, do you really believe that their blood isn't going to be on our hands?

Sometimes actions speak louder than words. Speaking fire and brimstone doesn't help anyone IMO. When you befriend, treat them how you wanted to be treated, act like Christ, you open a door to their hearts. Every chance I get I try and mention something church related...because now that it's a big part of my life, I find that it's easier to talk about it (I happened to go past a Mormon church while house hunting and it got me talking about their religious practices and how I felt about them with my realtor). I have never been this open about things before. I share Bible passages and church happenings with my coworker when certain things arise (like I have a debate over something silly with my fiance's mother regarding a religious topic).

Except that the command is to share the Gospel with them, not do good works in the hopes that, somehow, they'll extrapolate the Gospel from your good works.

Speaking fire and brimstone doesn't help anyone IMO.

Then why did Jesus do it?

When you befriend, treat them how you wanted to be treated, act like Christ, you open a door to their hearts.

And that's precisely my point. You believe that it's all about you "opening a door to their hearts" but the Bible says that it's all about the preaching of the word of God causing conviction.

Every chance I get I try and mention something church related

If you can talk about your church, then why can't you talk about the Gospel?

I have never been this open about things before. I share Bible passages and church happenings with my coworker when certain things arise (like I have a debate over something silly with my fiance's mother regarding a religious topic).

And what are you going to do if they die and go to Hell and you have to stand before God and explain why you didn't follow His command to share the Gospel with them when He sent you to them?

How do you evangelizeto a Hindu?

Let me encourage you to read up on Ravi Zacharias (www.rzim.org)
Ravi grew up in India, now he is a Christian apologist that travels the world speaking on why he believes the Gospel is the truth.
One rule that he always has, which I think is very beneficial, he will never tell someone, in person or in debate, why they should not believe a certain religion, he tells them why he believes the Bible and why they should also. That way you are not attacking the person or putting them on the defensive. As soon as a person feels like they are being attacked they will usually shut you off, no matter what you say.

The one true God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!

And what do you say when it's time to tell him how to be saved?

...has a wonderful plan for your life.

To which the Hindu responds:

"What??? Have you seen my country? A Christian in my country has the life expectancy of an ice cube in the desert! The kill Christians and torture them in my country. A pastor in my village was dragged out into the street and made to watch while his wife and daught were raped. Then, the mob took steel rods and broke every bone in his body. Is that the kind of 'wonderful plan' your god has for me"?

Jesus Teaches in Parables

1That day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea.

2And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach.
3And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, "Behold, the sower went out to sow;
4and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.
5"Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.
6"But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7"Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.
8"And others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.
9"He who has ears, let him hear." An Explanation

10And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

11Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.
12"For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.
13"Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14"In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,
'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND;
YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;
15FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL,
WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR,
AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES,
OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES,
HEAR WITH THEIR EARS,
AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN,
AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.'
16"But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.
17"For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 18"Hear then the parable of the sower.

19"When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.
20"The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
21yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.
22"And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23"And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." (Matthew 13)

1There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.

2Seven sons and three daughters were born to him.
3His possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
4His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually.
6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.
7The LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."
8The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."
9Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?
10"Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
11"But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face."
12Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD. 13Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,

14a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,
15and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
16While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
17While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
18While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,
19and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
20Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
21He said,
"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
And naked I shall return there
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD." 22Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.
(Job 1)

1Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD.

2The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."
3The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause."
4Satan answered the LORD and said, "Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.
5"However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face."
6So the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life."
7Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
8And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.
9Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!"
10But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
11Now when Job's three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, they came each one from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and comfort him.
12When they lifted up their eyes at a distance and did not recognize him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them tore his robe and they threw dust over their heads toward the sky. 13Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great. (Job 2)

25And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

26And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?"
27And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." 28And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE." (Luke 10:25-28)

24"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.(John 5:24)

6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
(JOHN 14:6)

"They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. (John 16:2)

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials (james 1:2)

17Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. 18They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20"Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of this new life."

21At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.
When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. 22But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported, 23"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside." 24On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were puzzled, wondering what would come of this.
25Then someone came and said, "Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people." 26At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles. They did not use force, because they feared that the people would stone them.
27Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28"We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood."
29Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men! 30The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. 31God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. 32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."
33When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. 34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."
40His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
(acts 5:17-42)

12Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. 13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[b] and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.

15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.[c] 18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d] 20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me. 27Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel 28without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, 30since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have. (Philippians 1:12-30)

12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)

20For you tolerate it if anyone enslaves you, anyone devours you, anyone takes advantage of you, anyone exalts himself, anyone hits you in the face.

21To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison But in whatever respect anyone else is bold--I speak in foolishness--I am just as bold myself.
22Are they Hebrews? So am I Are they Israelites? So am I Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.
23Are they servants of Christ?--I speak as if insane--I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.
24Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes.
25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep.
26I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren;
27I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.
28Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. 29Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern? (2 Corinthians 11:20-30)

No, I used examples of things followers of Christ endured before when it comes to suffering.

Christians have always been persecuted for preaching Christ crucified.
