How many angels are mentioned in the bible.

From what I understand there is a multitude of angels and no one knows the count.

And how do you know that two of their names are Michael and Gabriel?

Well the Bible speaks of them:

Michael is the Archangel-warrior angel:

1. Jude 1:9 speaks of him in the role of the Archangel.

2. Revelation 12:7 speaks of Michael and his angels warring with Satan.

More scriptures on Michael are:

Daniel 10:13
Daniel 12:1
Daniel 10:21

Gabriel is a Messenger angel. Some scripture on him:

1. Daniel 8:16-27
2. Luke 1:19
3. Luke 1:26

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for by way of an answer, but it is what I have.

As far as I know Michael and Gabriel are the only actual angel names the Bible gives us.

>>One question. How many angels are mentioned in the bible.

>>And how do you know that two of their names are Michael and Gabriel?

Isn't that two questions? There are twice as many Angels in Heaven then there are demons on earth. The Kingdom of Heaven is on the inside of those who do the will of God. The Angels always do the will of God, and they work with the men here on earth who always do God's will.

Michael and Gabriel, when they appear to someone, announce who they are. Michael heads up the Lords army. The ministry I am a part of goes on a mission trip to Africa once a year. Between two and three hundred thousand can show up for a crusade. Because there is so much bondage to witchcraft and the devil. It takes a LOT of the power of God to set people free. Michael is there heading up the Lords army. So our pastor and people in the ministry have actually worked with Michael. It has to be a big event, before he is going to show up though.

Most of us only receive second hand information about Michael and Gabriel, from those who do know them. There is a big price to be paid in Holy Living to be used by God in that way. God is no respector of persons, but most people are not willing to pay the price and make the sacrifice to be used by God in that way. Thanks, JohnR7

>>Do people actually see Michael

The Pastor saw him, but it was a very brief visit. Just enough to let us know that Michael would be in charge of the Heavenly Host. He saids that he saw Michael a second time, but he has not told us anymore about that visit yet.

There are people who see Angels just like you would see a person. There are lots of times in the Bible where the Saints of God spoke with Angels. We are to be like the people in the Bible. They were given to us as an example to follow.

I am often aware of the presense of angles at church, but I do not actually see them. As far as I know, they hold back the demonic power, so the Holy Spirit can do a work of redemption or healing in peoples lives. Or at times, they will join us in worship. I have even seen them come and listen to the sermon, when God is showing our pastor something new.

For me, it is sort of like that song, where you can sort of hear the flutter of angel wings and see glory on every face. Although where I really see the glory is on the women who have very long hair. Thanks, JohnR7

1 Cor. 11:15
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

1 Cor. 11:10
For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

Theres also the "Angel of the Lord". (thats his name)He appears in the Bible stories often..and people (and donkeys) fall down before him. Look him up in the Word:
also worship angels, warrior angels, and our own personal angels..ive seen a few of these, never seen Michael or Gabrielle though
Why do you ask?...deb

See Genesis 1:1...God created the Heavens and the Earth. The angels are created and not a manifestation of God. See Colossians 2:18, where Paul says that the church should not let people who worship Angels discourage them from the prize (NIV). Also see Hebrews 1, which talks about Christ being superior to the angels. Hebrews 2 goes on to talk about when Christ was, for a little while, lower than the angels (meaning when He was on earth). 1 Peter 1:12 states that angels long to understand the mystery of Salvation, which we can understand through the Spirit of God (and which God understands in full - since He is the author).

Furthermore, I would encourage all not to think to much about people who claim to see angels. Do not misunderstand me, I do think that it is possible. But let us be MUCH more amazed that the Spirit of God speaks to us rather than being amazed at those who say they have seen angels. Whether they have or not makes no difference to me. Like Paul, I will praise God.

Hope that helps,
Nate

There are three types of angels:

Seraphim
Cherubim
Archangels

Serubim are seen in the book of Revelation. They're the weird looking ones.

Cherubim are the ones that have somewhat elite missions. They're more like the servants for God, that do tasks. Sorta like the jedi... oh I'll get off that. One guarded the garden of Eden. They were inscripted on the Ark of the Covenant... and that's about all I know of these.

Now Archangels. The rarest. These are like master Yoda missions, Michael led the battle in heaven against Satan. Gabriel instructed the name and conditions of God's incarnation. These are my favorite. I don't like Yoda though. I hate his grammar.

Actually, if you want to get technical, there are 9 choirs of angels:

The most highest class consists of the "Seraphim", "Cherubim" and the "Thrones" who work directly with God. The second class consists of the "Dominions", "Virtues", and the "Powers" who work directly with the universe (planets, suns, stars, etc.). The lowest and final class consists of the "Principalites", "Archangels" and "Angels" who work directly with the Earth.

You may want to read 2 Enoch AKA "The Book of the Secrets of Enoch".

I believe Enoch went to Heaven with angels and saw all of Heaven. When he returned, he had a specific amount of time to write down everything that had happened, as God said, before the angels came to take him to Heaven for good.

It's also rumored that the Seraph angel, Metatron, is actually Enoch.

IMO, everyone should read the Book of Enoch. The oldest copy is believed to have been written in the 2nd century, B.C. Also, somewhere in the Book of Enoch, God (or an angel; not sure exactly) tells Enoch about a coming Messiah. That's 200 years before Christ. That's why I believe everything that Enoch wrote.

I hate to say it, but to believe that something is wholey true only because it is partially true is horrible reasoning. To once again draw an illustrations from automobiles, if I tell you that I have a 1998 Eclipse and that it's in excellent condition, are you going to pay me the $10,000 I'm asking for just because you know that it is in deed a 1998 model? Wouldn't you rather want to know that it is actually in excellent condition?

To bring this back to Scripture, I believe the entire Bible is truth because I am convinced through the Holy Spirit that it is God-inspired. May I not assume the same truth about that which is not God-inspired, no matter how much of it I may know be true in part.

Hope that helps,
Nate

2Cor 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the
body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God
knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I
cannot tell: God knoweth;)
4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable
words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Here the scriptures say that its unlawfull for a man to utter what he has heard. So would'nt that make the book of Enoch seem far feteched if he was able write what he both saw and heard?

And Amie Yes I believe in Angels. You can correct me if I am wrong by I have only found michel being called an Arch angel. No where is Gabriel called an Arch angel that I have been able to find. I will post an article on angels latter.
