Any large Christian bookstore you go to will have an entirely seperate section just for Bill Gaither music. It's completely retarded. How can one man produce so may CD's and concert reunion DVD's?

I loathe Southern gospel music to the nth degree. BLAGH!!

I should be careful however....Gaither fans are legion!

I am a Gaither Groupy so back off. Only GG's can make jokes about Gaither Music. (By the way, it seems Gaither Music is a new genre of music)

You all better recognise hymns are holy and righteous, choruses of are a necessary evil to placate the youth and kids. Classical music was invented by Gabriel (waddya mean Mozart was a lush?). Music of African origin is satanic and for all other cultures they better understand Western music reigns supreme!

Not true at all. The vodoo celebrations didn't even use drums in their ceremonies. Your hymns were orginally considered inappropiate because they used the same tune as used in bars. Gabriel didn't invent classical music.

As a psychology student, I stand by my assertion that certain types of music affect one's mood in certain ways. While there may be slightly subjective areas as to what type of music affects whom, studies show that generally, certain sounds produce a constant result in all subjects.

Yeah, I had to write an essay about why 20th century composers had such self-destructive lifestyles for class. Maybe Artisans are just messed up.

As a psychology student, I stand by my assertion that certain types of music affect one's mood in certain ways. While there may be slightly subjective areas as to what type of music affects whom, studies show that generally, certain sounds produce a constant result in all subjects.

Music affects your mood, emotion, feelings etc. But music only rarely falls into clear cut definitions.

And in certain contexts. How many people over a lifetime experience music for the comparative length of time and under the conditions defined by the conditions under which the studies were conducted? It is not enough to be able to quote a p-value.

Some music that falls withing syncopated rythms will do things to the mind that will lead away from Christ. The folks who use Voodoo know all to well how important a certain beat is in ceremonies.

Some music is a tool of satan to in a sense medicate the mind, this is not of God.

Where do you find your verification for this? Is it your opinion or your experience? You've spoken to folks who use voodoo and know how important that certain beat is in ceremonies or you have participated, and therefore know? Or, are you citing the data from the rat study conducted, in part, by Dr. Harvey Bird which was actually a study conducted on mice?

Is your stated conclusion empirical or empiricism?

BTW, is there a similar effect on the body from poetry that has a certain syncopation?

Where is the beat in "Just As I Am"? There is no more influential piece of music in popular evangelism than this quiet hymn. Don't you think it medicates the mind, or do you simply choose to attach another identifier to that experience?

I do find that music affects me profoundly. The right music played can remove me entirely from this world and send me into Vision or initiate Contact. (No entheogenic catalysts required.) I also HEAR spiritual Entities address Themselves to me through music -- and I address Myself to humanity through music forged in the wells of the world; it's a two-way street for Us.

But that's just Me. My experience is not at this time considered the template for all humanity.
