So what of those who for most of their lives have not believed in God and then find Him?

Need, their own selfish need, they didn't need him for most of their lives, then they felt a need, why else would they turn to a God? for fun? people pick up and drop a God as they feel the need, that's why it's called turning to God.

I can understand you not wanting to be told your God is nothing but a figment of your imagination,
but think about, children are told that there's a God that will look after them and protect them if only they will believe in him,
once the seed is planted and it's backed up by the bible, they read the bible and are told stories of how wonderful this God is,
there is no God for the child to see and there's nothing to show the child as regards to proof,
so the childs imagination takes over and does the rest,
and as the child gets older the imaginings turn the idea into a reality, the stories then become the Gospel truth,
which is the truth according to the Gospels, not a fact.

If you can find a flaw in that, please tell me.

Selfish need? Why do you feel that a need for God would be selfish? I can assure you that when you are in a relationship with God that selfishness is one thing that comes between God and the person rather than bring them to God.

Well this sounds reasonable until you find, as in my case, that parents had nothing to do with the finding of God. My parents were not religious...my dad was an atheist and my mom just never said anything at all about believing that God existed.

There ya go.:)

:)

So why did you go looking for a God in the first place?
were you not satisfied with your life as it was?

PS. I don't want you to think I mean you,
but I have not come across any religious person on this forum who admits to being indoctrinated,
every one of them came to God of their own free will.
I don't know about you but I find that a little strange.

I am a very curious person, I like to have answers. So it wasn't that my life was not satisfying. It was more like I needed to know.

Considering that some people who have been "indoctrinated" have their own will and turn away as often as turn to...not at all.

No, if you, Christianity and all of the other religions disappeared tomorrow,
life would carry on as if all of you had never existed.

Strange how so many Gods could disappear in the blink of an eye.
What's with the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]y attitude towards someone you've never even met?

And I suppose when you found out, you thought to yourself, all that makes a lot of sense, I think I'll believe that.

And what answers did a religion give you that you didn't already have?

It's the same with the Muslims, after they have been indoctrinated for 16 years,
they are asked if they still want to be Muslims, and suprise suprise they all say yes.

I have never met anyone here so does that mean I have to walk on egg in case I upset someone.

It is my opinion that religion is a pile of crap,
I do not care what you all say about finding a God on your own,
you were all force fed God when you were young,
and you can deny it all you like, I say this because I am sure that no one in their right mind would
choose to believe the rubbish you all call religion, and as for creationism?????

If I am wrong and you did find a God on your own,
you have one hell of a big NEED, and problems to go with that need.

You should probably leave like automan did. You sound just like him.

Not having to walk on egg shells, doesn't mean you have to act like a jerk. Taking swipes right out of the gate, and at people you don't even know, shows hostility and extreme ignorance on your part.

Even if religion is a pile of crap, what the hell does that have to do with a member returning after being away for a while?

You are wrong.

I suppose you didn't like him because he told you the truth as well, and I will when I am bored or have had enough.

I don't want to know them if they have their ignorant heads in the clouds, and I am just getting my retaliation in first,
before they start spouting a load of bible nonsense.

She's back and I am reminding her that her religion is still as crappy as when she left.

And I am right, and you know I am.
