World of Warcraft. evil?

I just sent you a PM and it's a little long, so sorry if it's a mission to read throught. Theres good lewt and XP at the end though... maybe.

I don't really want to get into the whole thing in this thread, and I think I've said my piece in my PM to you. Btw that Oldblivion looks amazing. I don't really have a need for it as my PC is pretty sexy, but I'm most impressed, and could have done with that when I was playing it on my laptop which didn't quite cut the power needed to run it with all the shinies on.

Well to be fair I have had my current computer for 8 months and am still playing catch up in the gaming department the one that I replaced I decided it finaly had to go when the new version of Norton Antivirus wouldn't run on computer because. Let me give you an idea how old and bad it was it had 64mb of ram.

Oldblivion is amazing. The creator of the program runs Oblivion on a GeForce 3 O.O

And I can run it well on my 4 year old laptop.

What are your specs btw? (I'm a nut for PC hardware)

Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4300+
3GB RAM PC5300
ATI X1950 XTX 512Mb PCI-E GPU
Those are the important bits I think. Oh and a Chimei 22" Widescreen LCD, 5.1 Logitech 530s and just onboard sound. I think Creative managed to sucker me out of lots of money with their Audigy cards, and the only benefit I really got was good microphone quality when using TS/Vent... so I'm suspect on whether their cards actually do anything useful.

Nice PC.

Right now, I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop that's seen the ugly side of life. The hard drive crashed and had to be replaced, the DVD drive broke and has left a gaping hole in the side while I use an external, and the screen hinges shattered and now the screen has to be propped up. To top it all off, it started overheating which led me to buy a laptop cooler, and now I'm going to have to replace the cooler's fans because one started spinning at an extremely low speed and does almost nothing.

Pentium M 1.4 GHz (equivalent to about 2.2 GHz)

128MB GeForce FX Go5650

512MB RAM

Honestly, I'm amazed I've got this much life out of it, as so far I've been able to play any game I've wanted, even Oblivion, (with the help of Oldblivion of course).

But this fall, I'm going to get a job and build a new computer myself.

Currently, the core parts I have picked out are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (should be able to overclock to about 3GHz)

2 GB DDR2 800 RAM (2.5 if I get Vista)

8800GTX

And a gorgeous looking 20 inch widescreen samsung

I already have a nice set of Klipsch 2.1s

Those are the key components. Currently as it's configured, it'll cost a little over 2,000, but it might go up as this Christmas the GeForce 9 boards are supposed to be coming.

I'm also undecided on whether to go with Vista or not, but I have made up my mind that if Bioshock is going to require it, that clinches it, I'm getting Vista.

BTW, I am going with a Creative X-Fi, they are a huge leap over the Audigy series or so I've heard.

It's going to be pricey but I figure I should make the jump into high end now while I still have no expenses.

What did you DO to it? I have a Dell Inspiron XPS, it's pretty nifty and can run most things. It was actually the PC I played FEAR on. When I was up in QLD here in Aus, I accidentally got the power cable tangled in my feet without noticing, and when I got up, it snapped taught and made my cup of tea tip over. I swear, I could not actually SEE anything wrong with the laptop. Just a little tea splash here or there, underside was nice and clean because it stands about 5mm off the table due to these little rubberised feet. Anyhow, switched it on and it blue-screened. I then unplugged it and looked more thoroughly, eventually ejecting the HDD and tea practically gushed out. I don't know how it got in there, but there was about 1/2 a cup in there... anyhow, had to get a new HDD, the rest was fine though. So what in the heck did you do to yours?

I didn't build mine. I intended to, and then this place near where I work, CPL, had a really good special on which I could customise. So I changed the bits I didn't like, and they built it in 24 hours and I picked it up the next day, ready to rock. I was really happy with it, my wife did the same thing too. She has a sexier monitor though... >_>

Your new PC sounds pretty nice man, and yeah I hear you about Bioshock. Can't wait for that.

Maybe I'm not most men, but I don't have sexual thoughts every seven seconds. Nor do those women occupy my thoughts all day, in fact, they are rarely, if ever in my thoughts.

And my sex drive is extremely strong.

Why is this? I think it is because I view it as fantasy, almost like a movie or a game. I don't saturate my thoughts with either, and neither with inappropriate content.

I am taking Digits advice and stopping and seeing what happens, not really for any current benefit but because I don't want to take the chance of possibly damaging a future relationship.

i looked and looked for a mmr game he could play that would be agreeable for both of us, and we came up with Star Wars Galaxies. he loves the game, and i've played it with him too, to make sure it was cool, and it really is.
try playing SWG, i know it's not WOW, but it is a good game.

They're not even on the same level. SWG was dead years ago. WoW is still hitting its stride, and is many times better than SWG was on its best day.

Shade of Aran is a difficult fight for casual guilds. If you guys haven't been able to get past him, I can see if I can offer any advice if you give me some more specifics.

Not that I know too much about World of Warcraft, I do play FFXI. And it's not evil. I'm just pressing buttons that have no effect on our world. But I was addicted.. that can lead to trouble.

Hi everyone,

I have read a couple of posts in this thread. What drew me here is that I am a gamer myself, well I was... I am trying to quit gaming since it almost cost my marriage (I am currently separated since about a week ago).

I have played Eq2 since release, many other shoot em up games and I also have been loyal to sagas like the "Total War" ones. In other words, games and I go way back.

IMO games themselves are not evil, it is how we get in to a game that makes US evil people. But I will tell you this, they are time consuming, many gamers could use anger management, I am one of them.

Last night I canceled my EQ2 account and decided to place my priorities straight.

There's no way in hell I can put myself in front of a computer and play for just 1 hour, I need to do so 'till I am either satisfied of what I've accomplished in the game, or I am tired and it's late in the AM and I go to bed.

Gaming itself can be a selfish action, I just came to the realization that I would be selfish, I blocked everything around me just to "enjoy myself". Instead of doing any other productive things like sharing all of the time with my family.
