I see that as a main reason for the change. When Christians continually tell other Christians they are not "true Christian" the initial dream of uniting all Christians becomes apparent as being unattainable.

Define Christian. Are all gods equal? Is one god the same as the next?

It is only meaningless if you believe all gods are equal. Do you?

I can't believe that "all gods are equal", because I'm a monotheist, so I believe there's one God. But I have no idea how a discussion which looks like this:

"You're following a false Christ!"
"No, you are!"
"You're wrong!"
"No, I'm not!"

can be considered meaningful. And that kind of discussion is encouraged if telling other that they aren't "true Christians" is allowed.

Hey all... how hard is it to create a new Christian site (characters and all) like this if a lot of people were willing to chip in?

LOL! ^_^ Trying to emulate Erwin? Good luck, have fun at all your new sites!

Erwin,

I had a mixed response to your 7-7-7 changes. I very much liked opening all forums to all posters, but I disliked eliminating the Nicene standard. Ideally, I would have liked to see the site rules state a Nicene definition for Christianity, but then allow people to self-identify and to post wherever, without witch hunts going on. This would have clarity of belief without exclusiveness.

This name change... I really don't know what to make of it. I'm unhappy that the old name is gone, but I'll stick around for awhile and see where it goes. I don't want to go to a site which is so narrow that only a particular subset of Christians are allowed to post; on the other hand, I do like the idea of a site which is explicitly Christian (without excluding anyone from posting).

Yes, this is your site and you can do what you want with it. Yes, there have been some histrionics from Christian members that make me cringe. No, I'm not accusing you of nefarious motives. But I'd just like to record my response to the recent changes: While I support opening the forums to all posters, I don't support the name-change or the lack of unifying faith statement.

(To be clear, we could have a statement of what the site believes -- I think the Nicene Creed is most appropriate for this -- but not go around policing members for whether or not they fit the criteria.)

I don't want to have a knee-jerk reaction, so I'm going to wait on a "stay/go" decision.

Grace and Peace,
Mac

I came here for Christian fellowship after my stepson died. I was not looking for a "social network". I do not want my blog on a site that no longer claims Christ in it's name.

And BTW - someone said that Erwin used $7000 to buy this site name - that was money from the Site Supporters and I did not contribute to be betrayed like this!!

This is a new beginning that will probably make me look elsewhere for Christian fellowship as I have all of the secular world I care to participate in.
Try out http://bibleforums.org/forum/index.php it is free and they don"t ask for a dime. :)
And its not ashamed to proclaim Christ.

In light of self-identifying as an atheist, could you please explain what you meant by #2, above??

Just that some people seem to be under the impression that anything they don't like is due to Satanic influences, or the evil atheists conspiring to take over, or [your choice of bogeyman here].

WHAT HAS REALLY CHANGED?????????

I am ambivalent about the name change BUT CF like any other forum is a function of its membership not the bloody name at the top.

I'm sure some people will leave as well as some Mods (are Mods people?? - [/joke]) but when all is sais and done that means they considered the name more important than the people.

When I saw the 12 hour message last night I actually had a strong inkling the name would change.

What if the name was Wiccan watch ? Packaging and marketing usually indicate what the product is. Just some food for though.

The only issues I have is with the site mission, and the mention that FM is a social networking site...which will conjure up images of such nice places as MySpace and Facebook. Definitely not what you want to associate a Christian majority site with.

G-d bless,
sc
