are there any teachings of the church that you struggle with?

what have you noticed are difficult spots for large numbers of people?

Personally, the birth control thing is tough.  I understand it, I agree with it, my heart says it's the right thing to do, but it's very very hard to let go of my head telling me otherwise, and to have enough faith to trust.

Well, we used to have a really hard time with birth control, but we stopped using it, and started using NFP. It improved our marriage greatly. Then, we really stopped using NFP and just gave control to God, still charting so that we'd know when I ovulated, etc., in case I got pregnant again - and occasionally prayerfully abstaining if timing seemed wrong (although I must say that we didn't feel the same desire on those months anyway). It was/is kinda scary, but it is also freeing to leave your fertility in God's hands. The way I figure it, if He's gonna get us pregnant, then He's gonna help us get everything else in line for the new baby. And we are being sorely tested with financial issues this pregnancy, but there's still a light at the end of the rainbow - everything looks like it will fall into place just in the nick of time!

I'm still doing a lot of learning about the faith, so I don't have many particular teachings that bother me - I just kinda blindly accept (on faith) them until I get around to studying them.

I would have to agree here. I pray that I have the faith when I get married. I've heard many wonderful reports from those who have participated in NFP, so I hope we have the same experience.

Other than that, bowing my intellect before that of the Magesterium was difficult. It isn't now because I've realized that all my intellect alone did was confuse me. So many of the questions I had make sense to me now, and the things I am learning are most humbling. It has really put the omnipotence of God in perspective for me. Honestly, when I first converted, the closeness to God in my everyday life was frightening. Living the Church Calendar, going to Confession, Communion, helping with RCIA, fasting... it has all brought God very close to my heart. I see my actions now in a different respect. I am not isolated anymore, I am part of a body, and a representative of it. I never felt alone, but like so many young Americans, I felt a little like I lived in a vacuum. Drinking, having sex, driving fast... it all effected only me, unless I died doing one of them. Now, though, this passage has become much more real to me:

1 Corinthians 12:25-27

that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ...

God Bless,

Neal

That is a big one for me, but I trust and don't do it, like you said.

It's not hard to learn.  It's based on body temperature and cervical mucous (you get really familiar with cervical Mucous)  It helps if the womans cycle is regular also, but, with a little more work, anyone can do it.  It takes a little more disicpline to record the cycle, and a little more self control at certain points, but it is effective.

we used it to get pregnant.

s0uljah - it was really easy for us. We've been doing it for close to 5 years now, with the exception of the 2 pregnancies (and about 10 months afterward due to breastfeeding). I've heard that women with irregular cycles love it because it helps them out a lot, and they begin to see a pattern, albeit different from the norm. DH and I used the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" (http://www.tcoyf.com) to learn because there were no couples who taught it in our parish - or even driving distance away from us. I have read the CCLI (http://www.ccli.org) stuff, but it just confuses me most of the time. Maybe because I wasn't taught their way of doing things? If you want some more in-depth info, you (or your wife) can feel free to PM or e-mail me. I'll try to help. It's been a while since I've actually used it for any great length of time... :D I think I still remember the basics, though. ;)

NFP is about 98% effective IF it is done correctly. Abstenance is necessary on certain days of the month.

NFP is 100% effective in bringing you and your spouse closer to God and closer to each other.

In Christ, Patrick

ps- Hey Souljah, don't forget about the PM I sent to you!

Hi Neal,

Thanks for sharing!  It's encouraging to hear.  I personally love how scripture tells us that the family of God is on both heaven and earth (Eph 3:15) and that we are not alone (Heb 12:1, Heb 12:22-24)!! :)

God bless!!

Hi,

I just thought I'd share.  I don't have any problems with birth control.  I'm still single :)

But in anycase, I fully agree with the Church's teachings on marriage and contraception/abortion.

I personally, struggle with holiness and sin, as everyone else probably does too :)

But for me it's ridiculously frustrating.  I can totally relate with St. Paul's words in Rom 7:15-18.
