Just yesterday i had signed up for Game Tap for a free game play so i waited for it to load and it was still loading for about a hour so i said ok thats fine i will wait well 8 hours passed and it ws only 80% finished the Scam is that by the time it was done loading you couldn't play it becuase it expires the next day so next time you see a add on the side that says play game now Game Tap unless you want to wait forever and not get to play it this one is a total scam and don't even sign up for them there totally lame.
here our some safty tips
1. never give you real email
2. have 4 or 5 emails give diffrent email everytime
3. never give your creait card number to buy anything on the internet.
4.never use your real name
5. don't fall for adds that say you won anything or sign up now and get this free its all scams to get info this is why people get so much junk mail and not know where it came from.
6. don't sign up for dating sites that say there free they always have you give your info then have a creadit card page they will send you info even if you don't want it.
7.do not ever give money on the internet for cherity or anything of the kind anyone can tell you they want to give and there totally scaming you don't even give to real cherity's there all scams those people give 15% or less to those in need and 75% to 80% percent to there self.
hope this helps and remember to watch your kids on the internet my view is to only allow a child who is 12 years old or older on and blocking curtant ones for safty God Bless.:)

GameTap is a legit company. If you don't have highspeed internet, it will take longer to download bigger games. Or it could have been either your or their server was lagged. It's the internet, it happens. It depends on many things.

1. never give you real email
Depends what you're doing with it. Obviously you will want to give your real email if you plan on having people contact you.

2. have 4 or 5 emails give diffrent email everytime
Again, depends on what you're doing with them. I have several emails I use for several different things, but it gets bothersome checking so many emails every day.

3. never give your creait card number to buy anything on the internet.
Now you're going a little extreme. I do most of my shopping online as well as owning an internet based business. A couple actually. You just need to make sure the people you're giving your card to are legit companies.

4.never use your real name
In some cases, you have to. Especially if you're buying things online.

5. don't fall for adds that say you won anything or sign up now and get this free its all scams to get info this is why people get so much junk mail and not know where it came from.
Agreed for the most part. Most want you to buy something from them or sign up for credit cards in order to get the "free" gift.

6. don't sign up for dating sites that say there free they always have you give your info then have a creadit card page they will send you info even if you don't want it.
Never been to them, couldn't tell ya.

7.do not ever give money on the internet for cherity or anything of the kind anyone can tell you they want to give and there totally scaming you don't even give to real cherity's there all scams those people give 15% or less to those in need and 75% to 80% percent to there self.
Again, depends. I give to quite a few charities. The local zoological society, of which I am involved with. The World Wildlife Fund, The ONE Campaign... all legit organizations which I support. Just do your homework and make sure the organizations you are giving to are real.

hope this helps and remember to watch your kids on the internet my view is to only allow a child who is 12 years old or older on and blocking curtant ones for safty God Bless.:)
To each their own. Everyone has different rules or standards, but I think we can all agree that kids need to be monitored when online.

Some of the advice is a bit overreactive, though. It is definitely possible to use your credit card, real name, and regular email address to safely buy things online. You just have to be careful about it and make sure you're buying from a site that is trustworthy.

I was not trying to be rude, I was being realistic and giving realistic advice from someone who does the majority of his business via the internet. The advice you were giving was extremist; "don't buy online" "don't give out your real name" etc. The advice I gave was as much for you as everyone else.

As for Game Tap, give it another try. It may have just been a bad night. If you have a server that can handle 5,000 people on at once at full speed, and it has 8,000 people using it at the time, yes, it's going to be very slow and laggy. A second try may change your mind about the company.

Most of that is fine, but I do use my real e-mail, name.

In safe practise, I have 2 e-mails, one is kept private which only very close friends/family use, and the other is a public one which all spam and other nonsense goes in there.

My name I use on occasion, when signing up online I have no problem with giving it away, what are they going to do? It's just a name, which they can get by looking in the phone book, not my address or anything like that.

I do buy online though, but I am careful of where I buy from (actually I only bought online once), but that's only because of my financial status right now, if I had more I would.

The other things look good though, I'd like to add to that list...Don't open any unsolicited e-mail especially if it has an attachment and always make sure when accessing a site that asks for your password it's a https site (secure/encrypted site)...That last point is normally used by banks and anything that holds credit card information.

ROTFL!!!! That's the best laugh I've had all day.

Yay for Conspiracy theory!

Sorry, but this thread just went downhill with that comment along with any credibility you may have had up to that point concerning the issue.

flightangel777 there is nothing wrong with being over-protective and I think it's great that you are, not everyone follows the same rules when using the Internet. It comes with some experience as well, my parents would NEVER use online banking because the fear of somehow giving out information others could steal, yet I wouldn't be without it, and I have been using the Internet and computer since I could walk.

We all learn the more we use it, and it's better to start over-protective then less-protective at the start.
