I don't have one, but I'd definitely wear one of St. John the Wonderworker. He saved our daughter's life and I can't even put into words how much we love him.

Hey Koolkat - I have that exact icon of St. Katherine- she's my patron as well. Tres cool.

Glory to God! I love to hear stories like these. :crosseo:

I have a medallion of St. Jude that I found at work. I put it on a chain that I also found but I want to put it on a better chain and maybe start wearing it. I have a medallion on the chain with my baptismal cross that has an icon of St. Seraphim of Sarov on it. I don't wear it because I'm afraid the icon will come off and be lost. I want to dip it in some clear lacquer for 2 or 3 coats then I'll start wearing it.

Possibly it won't help (Greeks that mentally, as some of my former parish did, worship at 'All the Greek Saints of Greece Very Greek Very Orthodox Greek Orthodox Church', to comit blatant theft from the Onion Dome, often consider non-Greeks as sub-Orthodox) but have you ever thought of showing her that St. Patrick is on 'Old Country' Orthodox Church calendars, and officially so? It's not just the OCA, I assure you. The Romanian calendar has St. Patrick there, in fact he's one of the few western saints without a direct connection to the east that we do have. There's nothing 'Papist' about St. Patrick. In case you find a Romanian calendar to try to prove that St. Patrick isn't 'Papist', you'll find him referred to as Sf. Patriciu.

I don't like medallions whether 'Papist' or Orthodox (I'm no fan of neck jewellery in general so only wear a cross) so I can't help there, but now that I've seen the 'In emergency call priest' idea, I'm actually considering getting one!

I wear a silver cross which has Save and Protect on the back [ in cyrillic of course :) ] and with it a medallion of St Seraphim of Sarov which has on the other face the Icon of Joy of all Joys - Both were gifts to me.

Occasionally I change the Cross for a slightly bigger one - but normally the two lie on on top of the other

I have a little gold one of the Mother of God. And a lady I know has one of her that has on the back "I AM AN ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN IN EMERGENCY CALL AN ORTHODOX PRIEST". Yeah, she really gave money to "papists" to get that. :D

That's awesome!

I would love something like that.
Well, you never know what's going to happen next. :prayer:

In response to the first post.

I have never met a greek woman like that though, you have created quite a characature in my little head.

It does sadden me however to hear an Orthodox use the word "papist"...I hear that so often from my die-hard protestant, luther-loving Orangeman Great Uncle. :(. (should he find out I am Orthodox...I'll probably face a fate worse than death...believe me, with the right imagination, I'm sure it's possible... :()

Well according to her all of Greece is some kind of Orthodox Paradise and the only real saints are Greeks and a grudging admission of other Eastern saints. :p

She really is a nice lady but she has some issues with Catholics and the (to her) far too "modern" OCA church. My priests have asked me to be patient with her and so has the GOAC priest. I just did not know if wearing medallions of saints (note saints not Theotokos) was considered too "Catholic" as well. ;)
The OCA is too modern? Really? Then what shall I make of GOARCH and their organs and kneelers? Seriously, it is time the xenophobia gets put past us the Orthodox in this country begin to act like we are brothers and not enemies!

Well I don't happen to wear a medallion but I know that it is quite common to pin them on children. I have a Russian one I bought a few years ago in my room and my father still keeps the one he had as a child (although he does not wear it anymore) it is definitely a saint although not his patron so which I am not sure. And given that it came from the US in the 50s it is possible it even came from a Catholic source.... I don't think that your co-worker has any reason to criticize you for wearing one, it would be nice if you could find one from an Orthodox source, but at least you know what you were getting into, it is not some crazy church pretending to be Orthodox.

i only wear my baptismal cross (and medallion) when i go to church. i have a different cross for during the week, (with a thick chain 'cause if it's too thin i might break it, playing). :D

I was around you age when I started wearing my baptismal cross every day, but even then I did break the chain a few times- luckily I never lost my cross (it usually got stuck in my hair ) but it is nice to be able to enjoy 2 crosses as well!!

I keep an icon card in my wallet that says the same thing, I keep it right behind my license so that people will see it, but I like the idea of having it like an emergency medical necklace

I didn't know GOARCH had organs and kneeler's too.. i knew they had pews, not this. Eek. The Antiochians have organs and kneeler's too, and in some Antiochian churches, I've seen statues.

To stay on topic:
Does anyone know of websites for medallions that have little prayers written on the back in English?

I found the following link of the GOARCh website that shows that on March 17th we celebrate St. Patrick's day you can print and show her!!

http://www.goarch.org/en/chapel/calendar.asp?Y=2007&M=3

I know the church of Greece celebrates a different St. Patrick I think of Rome but nevertheless it is the same name although not the same saint... And st. Anastasia is from Rome does this make her a pappist??? lol....

God bless,

Nope, we don't. Our mother parish has pews because they came with the building but no organs or kneelers and our mission has none of the above and no plans for them. Please don't characterize all Antiochians based on what some parishes have or do.

The only Greek parish I've ever attended had an organ, pews and kneelers but I think that's just something that varies from parish to parish so I won't characterize all Greeks as having them.

Just looking at some of the replies it sounds like no one wears a medallion of a saint? Just the Theotokos?
My son has a Saint Christopher coin and medallion. :)

I know of an Antiochean church with kneelers ... it is not a crime....:) but they sing acapela which was wonderful ... I dispise the organ myself....
I thought this thread was about medallions....lol....
