Instruments were used in scripture.
The important thing to consider about worship is that no matter teh style or worship.. does it glorify God? My church as a drummer, 2 guitarist (electric), a keyboard ' synthesizer player, and 4 singers. We play some pretty fast and up beat songs. But it is upliftiung at teh saem time, and I find nothing wrong with it.
However, my mother finds the same style of music distracting, so fer her it is not uplifting, as it is for me.
So, wether you worship to "An Hour of Praise: Volume 37" or "Blaze" by Code of Ethics.. it is not the style of music that is important, but wether or not it glorifies God and brings you closer to him.

How can Christian music be evil? The style of (Christian) music does not matter, as long as it glorifies God.

I would think that it would depend on how you use it and what the lyrics say. As I am sure all of you have heard music glorifying rape and violence, then have heard songs about helping people heal from disasters. It is not musical instruments themselves, but the person that uses them.

The Lord spoke to me when I was a teen and told begin to give me songs and I would play the guitar to accompany them. He gave me a passage of scripture to go with this blessing:
1Ch 25:
1 Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service some of the sons of Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with lyres, harps and cymbals; and the number of those who performed their service was:
2 Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asharelah; the sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king.
3 Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD.
Praise God! We are to sing spiritual songs and make music to the Lord with instraments. I have heard music, even without words, that was simply drenched with the Spirit of God! So deep was the anointing that you would feel drunk at the sound of it!

I think all instruments can be used to worship God, guitars, organs, drums (of all kinds) etc. I have heard people say you can't use certain instruments that indigenous tribes use, such as type of drum, because they are used to worship Satan. This is a ridiculas statement because an instrument is an inanimate object and only has as much power as you give it, and if this statement is true we better not use guitars or pianos either. Here ends my sermon for tonight.

hmmm......I don't remember, although they probably did have a scripture for their belief. Basically, I remember them saying that the modern church had to be patterned exactly like the original church. The original church did not have musical instruments as part of their worship(at least, this is what they always taught me). We should ask the Catholic members, but I think that is correct.

Well I believe that we may have had scriptures in the OT showing use of instruments. But do we have them in the NT? The OT passed away a long time ago (Hebrews 8:7-13, Col. 2:14)...We now have the NT. (Also note that two difference testaments/wills cannot be in effect at the same time...one is only in effect).

Using modern songs or old hymns are the same if they glorify God. As long as they are in accordance with God's Word.
That does not have to do with the use of instruments...my question was where do we find the authority. Also pointed that I would like NT, because OT authority was only for Jews...not us today.

In the NT Jesus, Paul and many others quoted scripture from what we call the OT. If that was good for them, it's good for us. You seem to be looking for a legalistic veiw to justify instruments. If you are lead by the Holy Spirit to use them then use them. The NT (i think) does not talk about this probably because it is not as important as the message of Jesus Christ.
My vote is still for instruments.

Well I was asking for authority for it...because when Paul, Jesus, etc. used the OT it was for prophecy or an example. I just don't get how someone can apply something from the OT?...wouldn't that mean we have to apply everything else from the OT? I don't think we can pick and choose...

Well, there is the ten commandments. I know they are still relevent for today. The entire OT is reletive. It teaches us about God's past. It contains prophecy still yet unfullfiled. If I go to church and my pastor says that we don't need the OT then I would find a new church.
I suggest you read the entire bible, because it sounds like you haven't. If you had you would realize that they go together.
I don't pick and choose, I believe the bible 100%. Old and new.

I have read the Bible. I believe in the complete and infallible Word of God, written by men inspired of God by the Holy Ghost (2 Tim. 3:16). I do understand that the OT is there for our learning. To find examples of men and women of faith, to see what sin is, to see the prophecies, etc. But we are no longer bound by its laws. We are bound by the NT laws. (Hebrews 8:7-13, Col. 2:14).
I think a good example would be that of a will. If a man writes a will that says he will give his son such and such when he dies, that son shall have those things. But let's say this person had another son and he decided to write a new will so he could divide his possessions between his first son, plus the new one. Now would the old will be in effect, or would the new will?
We cannot have two wills in effect at the same time. It is one or the either.
We see in Gal. 3:24-25 that the law was a schoolmaster for us...to bring us to Christ. Christ has come and has nailed the OT to His cross (Col. 2:14)
Gal. 3:24-25 "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster."
