I think though it's not just doing outer stuff, like wearing a veil or soemthing..the more concerning issue to Jesus is our hearts. If we gossip alot, or are meanspirited, if we lack compassion, or giving grace, manipulating, lying, etc. is more I think what Jesus would say is hypocrite than not wearing a veil. I'm not saying that those things may not be important, but the real point is how we are living, treating others.

I was thinking of this earlier today, so funny when I saw your post. I wll give what I think is a real example o hypocrisy, (although all of us have some amount of that , because we are human, we arent perfect l,ike Christ,) but those who regularly practice inconsistent attitude I think are the ones Christ is calling hypocrites, like the Pharisees who worried about breaking the Sabbath when they were picking wheat, or those who were selling stuff in the temple rather than going their to worship.

I have known this other lady I will call her Sue, for severla years. I only knew her very casually at first, then we got to be more friends, our kids would play, etc and after a time I started to notice what was a pattern, not occasional but a pattern, of being manipulaitve, and meanspirited.
Once this lady invited my daughter over, and ended up making her do heavy cleaning- on a playdate???? She told her to wash her and her dh's launddry, vacuum stairs, then peel and wsh veggies for a salad, etc etc. A while later her little group of women ffrom a church group came over, and my dd had been crying bc this mean lady yelled at her for not peeling her stupid veggies right. The church group came over for brunch (that my dd had basically prepared FOR the lazy, cruel woman..) and this woman put on the fakest smile, tossed her hair and 'ohhh! how niiiccce to seeee you, Jane!! " kiss, kiss, hug, hug. The ladies said how nice the house and food looked and do you know that lady didnt once say "oh, well actually _________ did it, not me. She did all the cleaning and cooking with my daughter to get it ready for me, while I painted my nails and talked on the phone. Heck, I even had her do my laundry!!"

Of course, she let the ladies think she did it, then the sickening part? This lady read a little story on Christian love....my daughter left, crying, and she never called or apologized. Evil lady, but she smiles and (scary) even leads these little groups, I think that's what I would call bigtime hypocrisy.
Yet, if you see her on the outside, she looks 'Christian'- Bible under arm, fake smile, teeth brushed, husband at side, but she controls and manipulates others like some kind of predator, then sings about God's love.
Give me a break!!!

Did you appreciate the rainbow effect? I think it is rather pretty and eye-catching. In any event, you can use it as a reminder of the proper spelling of "hypocrisy" and related words.

^_^ lol
I knew the very momment I seen that post it was a typo thing...well and the "rainbow effect" :p

... I can't agree or disagree ... to some extent ...

because we don't know "how far" someone has come on their spiritual journey in Christ.

One of the effects of the fall, according to some EO fathers, is that in any given situation, every choice 'seems wrong'; there is no good solution.

I don't know, but it also seems we have lost the idea of repentance (when is the last time a nation put on "sackcloth and ashes").

It can be super hard to "see" our own sin - to see our own sin is a gift from God !

Nobody knows.... He says he won't answer the question if he is a Christian or not. He says it's "too personal".

Well, if she won't tell us what she believes, I vote we don't post anymore. 'Cos she can start as many threads as she likes, but if no one responds...

(btw, I have a sister called Elspeth - it's the Gaelic form of Elizabeth. So I'm betting she's a girl)

CaDan, may I have some? :yum:

I would like three scoops of low-fat, low-carb, full-flavor peanutbutter cup ice cream, topped with real peanutbutter and hot fudge, further topped with whipped cream and a cherry, and sprinkled with broken up reeces' pieces peanutbutter cups!

You can't seriously get peanut butter flavoured ice cream??

Raspberry ripple or mint choc chip for me thanks. Large cornet, three flakes. :yum: :yum:

There is also the opposite end of this flawed equation you present. Jesus warned us to not be like the Pharisees who presented themselves perfect in law, able to judge others, but having none of God's Spirit of love and truth. They were good at condemnng others and straining knats to swallow camels, as Jesus joked of them.
Yes, there are many flaws among the sinners in this world, but there is a balm in Gilead and succor for those that hunger for righteousness; that place being in Christ, where His supply of grace is sufficient that we might grow into the very image of Him - becoming better men and women. He gives us that time of grace to grow in.
Soloman was never condemned by God for having wealth, and the spirit of Christ's words were never meant to add the burden of another law to follow and be legalized over. They were meant as guidance to a spiritual understanding; that we would not be owned by possessions, but would rather be content in wealth or poverty, using either to forward the kingdom of God as only God could lead a person individually. To have another person judge me is what the Pharisees would have been more than happy to do and what Jesus warned of as common to the devil, who is the "accuser of the brethren", who constantly stands before God and accuses the brethren of sin. I will not join with the devil, shoulder to shoulder and agree with him, but will fight against his accusations with the blood of the lamb that cleanses the dirtiest sinner that comes and repents, asking for forgiveness of sin.

Mt 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Mt 23:13 ¶ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of Heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those entering to go in.

Phil 4:11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

2Co 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord––who is the Spirit––makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Rev 12:Re 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Elspeth posted these questions in another thread. I made some comment and was told that I obviously couldn't answer the questions. I then did so, asking a couple of my own, one of them being why is it wrong for a Christian to get interest on their money? Surprise, surprise! There's been no word from Elspeth, just another thread started with the same questions. :sigh:

The phrase "don't feed the troll" springs to mind.
