:) I believe the bible both the old testament and the new. Question* God is a God of love without respect of persons, so what do you think was going through his mind went he sent two of his angels to destroy those two cities? did he do it to be a show off I think not. Todays world is trying God on to see which part of him fits their life style. But then that's "my opinion". One more thing, do I have the right to have an opinion before a just and Holy God? Who is there among you that tells an Omipotent God how to conduct his affairs, not me. I'm not that bold. In Christ Jesus, Lee.:amen:
The way I heard it, God sent the angels to Lot, and the people of the city tried to forcefully have their way with them.

Which would you destroy for - homosexuality or attempted-angel-rape?

:) Well Lee you've done it again, #1 I've known my Saviour since 1972. #2 Have you ever had a chance to read the words to that song Amazing Grace? #3 I should have stayed on topic by teaching The Song Of Solomon. I have tasted of the power and love that is God Almighty, He has visited me in my home, supped with me and I with him. I have cast out evil spirits in his name. I did all these things without any commitment on my part. I ran from my Saviour for 23 yr's. I am now in a wheel chair for that effort, I ran so fast and so hard That Jesus he stopped me when he did. I like how some people say that I shouldn't feel like garbage. Well then allow me to ask you this question. After everything i've just told you wouldn't you feel not worthy to tie his shoe laces. Thank you all, in Jesus most precious name :amen:

Quite frankly Im not sure if hatemongering and slander should be covered by "Freedom of Speech".
It certainly prevents a peaceful society doesn't it?

People have the right to think and believe anything they want, but express that via speech for the sole purpose of vilifying a group of people seems questionable to me, and I doubt it's what people had in mind when "freedom of speech" was thought up. But I guess that's how it's gotta be.

Yeah but at the same time it allows you to see and monitor these groups. If they werent allowed to voice their hate then it would still be there but it'd be just like a preasure-cooker and explode eventually.

This is ridiculous, the opening post (and several responses) are filled with outright lies. However, I'm not shocked that anti-gay christians continually resort to lies to further their cause.

Here's a direct quote from the bill itself. I'm going to make it really big so nobody has an excuse for ignoring it, ok?

H.R. 1592 said:
Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution.

People should only be worried about this if their "speech" consists of assaulting gay people with bats and clubs.

Somehow, that doesn't appear to be the same bill

I doubt that there is any such bill, but anyhow ...

Personally, I am not a big fan of unlimited free speech.
I think that allowing people to teach hatred perpetuates that hatred. It also allows people to feel that society as a whole condones that hatred because society is allowing them to express it and teach it. Rwanda is an example of where 'free speech' turned into millions dead. There are plenty of similar examples. The teachings against homosexuals are more subtle, it is true. But they are no less dangerous for all that.

A new bill is trying to be passed in congress called hr57. It attempts to take away rights of christians by making it illegal to preach anti-homosexual sermons, or even standing up against homosexuality throgh speech. Do you think that gays should be considered a protected minority???!!!?:(
I do not dare to decide this from within the American concept of "freedom of speech".
Where I live, there is no such "right" for hate speech. I personally don´t miss it.

I don't think any protection for minorities should involve restrictions on freedom of speech.

Hate speech may be disgraceful, but it shouldn't be illegal.

I don't understand why not. Being free means that one is free to be a very unpleasant person.

Why does the government have to get involved and start banning things? Why not just let society take care of it?

I'm perfectly free to go hang out with co-workers and start telling jokes involving mexicans changing lightbulbs. But I would probably quickly wish I hadn't. Chances are that everyone around me would be disgusted, I'd lose the respect of my coworkers, and I'd probably get the cold shoulder at work.

Banning speech, on the other hand, simply makes that speech more enticing.

The Bible lists Sodom's sins in several passages. Not a single one of them has to do with homosexuality.

  • Deuteronomy 29:17-26 - Idolatry and images to false gods
  • Deuteronomy 32:32-38 - Idolatry
  • Isaiah 1:9-23 - Murder, greed, theft, rebellion, covetousness
  • Isaiah 3:8-15 - Mistreating the poor
  • Isaiah 3:11-19 - Arrogance
  • Jeremiah 23:10-14 - Adultery, lying by priests and prophets
  • Jeremiah 49:16-18 - Pride of the heart
  • Jeremiah 50:2-40 - Idolatry and pride
  • Lamentations 4:3-6 - Cruelty and failure to care for the young and poor
  • Ezekiel 16:49-50 - Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
  • Amos 4:1-11 - Oppression and mistreating the poor
  • Zephaniah 2:8 - Pride.
