I think Harry Potter is turning out to be a sort of Christian allegory in the likes of Narnia... (We'll see when the seventh book is read and done...)

www.hogwartsprofessor.com is a good site to go to. He's a Christian who has written several pro-Harry books.
I'm not sure about the link to the Narnia Chronicles. That series is a pretty straight-forward Christian allegory. But I think the Harry Potter books form a traditional Good v. Evil story and there is always room for more of those.

I am pleased that my kids love the HP books and I have encouraged them to read them.

God Bless - Chris

I was reading some reviews of the HP books, and it's funny that Christians are so opposed to them, because a lot of athetists are complaining that they are too Christian. They are saying that HP is a "thinly-veiled Christ-fugure" and that the books are teaching children to "believe in a messiah, who, though having the appearance of being born 'normal' ends up saving the world from 'evil' through supernatural means."

They are saying they won't let their children read the books because they are afraid the children will be tempted to believe in a God.

That being said, the UK versions of the books are a lot more violent and scary than the US versions.

How so? I've always heard that the only differences were to fix slang and spelling between America and the UK.

I recently finished 3 years of apologetics, philosophy and worldview studies followed by an internship at a countercult ministry being trained in Wicca, Satanism, Seth etc...

My conclusion of the Harry Potter books? GREAT READS. I love them and have already preordered the next book.

However I have noticed that many people attempt to parrellel Tolkien and Lewis with Rowling. Although Tolkien, Rowling and Lewis did have magic in there books there is a key difference in the way that the magic is obtained and controlled.

Lewis's and Tolkien's magic was under the control of a sumpreme being and given to, or taken away from the participants in the storyline. Remember in Lewis when the Queens magic begins to fade because of Aslan, or in Tolkien when Saruman's staff breaks, or (once again in Tolkien) when Morgoth is defeated by the Valar?

That is in strong contrast to Harry Potter where the source of the magic comes from oneself. It does not come from a higher diety (as one is not mentioned), and it does not come from family line (as in the example of Scrubs and Mudbloods). Magic solely is dependent upon the individual in Harry Potter.

Those are key things to remember in regards to this series as the assumptions made in Harry Potter could easily influence people that are unaware.

Nope. I don't think the story is evil. It's not promoting magic or spells. It's not promoting any one philosophy.

It's about a story of a boy whose mother sacrificed her life to save his. It's about a boy who then is raised by a family that does not truly love him or want him and continually keeps him outside of their warmth and bond of family. But he has been so loved by his mom and dad that somehow, he manages to remain a good soul and then hope comes his way in that he learns more about his parents and his ownself.

Then he goes to school and is on the outside again, but this time, he makes friends and at first, all of them are sort of on the outside and in this, there is a bond of friendship.

Hermoine is not well liked because she is brilliant and most are put off by that and so they exclude her their first year at Hogwarts. Then Ron who comes from a poor family and wears hand-me-down clothes becomes friends with Harry. And Harry and Ron become friends with Hermoine and then they also embrace Hagrid who is also an outsider due to his size. Him being a small giant.

It's about mishaps who step in and help others and work together as friends and as a team to stop bad things from happening. It's a story that is filled with many wonderful lessons.

It reminds me of Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. Sometimes we have to see the whole picture and see all of the merits to a story.

Now saying all of that, if some people are very sensitive about the issue of magic or witchcraft, then this story is not good for them because it might stumble them in their Christian walk or their own life walk. And to them, it could be considered evil due to their own personal experiences.

So... I guess... it's kind of like all art work... beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Are the Harry Potter books Satanic?

No

Do those who want to ban them need to get a life?

Yes

Don't like them? Don't read them.

I personally was trying to figure out how to rent a kid so I could go to one of the bookstore parties when the last book came out. I couldn't find a service specializing in kid rentals, so I was very pathetic and checked every 2 minutes, on the release date, to see if UPS had delivered my book yet. My husband found it most humorous.

Bah! Who needs a brat tagging along? I decked myself out in Slytherin attire (as a show of faith for them, you know) used a drumstick as a wand, and went to the book release at midnight. Actually I dressed up the whole day, but people knew Harry Potter was coming out that night so I got more complements than weird looks. It was great fun, and I am 23...

My parents and many of their friends hold to the belief that the Harry Potter books are next to Satanic, despite never having read them. That bugs me. If you're going to call something Satanic, do a little unbiased research first.

I haven't read them yet, but I plan on it. If I don't like them, I won't continue reading them. But I'd say that at 17, I can distinguish fantasy from reality.

I read a message recently claiming that Rowling now claims to be a Satanist and that her books are purposefully antigod. Sounds like balony to me. Has anyone heard of this slander and do you know where it originated?

Probably from someone who doesn't like Harry Potter--thinks they're Satanic despite never having read them--and thinks it's their responsibility to ensure nobody reads them.
